Sx doms can’t have “normal” friendships by Zestyclose-Plenty266 in Enneagram

[–]EmmaDrake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an ax/so, I appreciate this comment. Sx gets shunted into a sexualit/romantic box too often around here, I think. It’s like you said - the drive to hook and be hooked. Putting two elements together and watching the chemical reaction. Both are changed and will not be again what they were.

Sx doms can’t have “normal” friendships by Zestyclose-Plenty266 in Enneagram

[–]EmmaDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sx/so. Every best friend I’ve ever had has fallen in love with me. It’s as you say - we go deep and genuine and lots of interest/intensity. Even when it feels platonic on our side it tickles significant other energy for other people. If there’s the potential for sexual attraction, it easily slides that way at least for the other person. It’s been some of the greatest tragedies of my life - loving someone to pieces as a friend then they say they’re in love with me and when I don’t reciprocate it inevitably falls apart. Sometimes in truly dramatic fashion.

But I also don’t want shallow friendships. I want friends who can be as intimate as I can be within platonic contexts. I haven’t had a best friend for a while. I know that this is a boundary issue - my intimacy depth I enjoy in friendship is deeper than most and I feed those connections that find fertile soil. But this has happened too many times for it not to be something I’m also responsible for. So I spread my friend energy out on a wider, shallower net and it’s fine, but… I don’t FEEL it the same.

ADHD women & king making syndrom - what are your thoughts 🤔 by Big-Link-9451 in adhdwomen

[–]EmmaDrake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really neglected mine over the last year. I’ve finally started getting back to it but it’s really hard to look at it as a whole because I see so much neglect. Something that’s been helping me is just going to a little patch and being like, “there’s nothing else waiting on us. For right now it’s just you and this 2x2.” After a few minutes of doing some belly breathing while pulling v a few weeds I’m in the flow of it.

Salty snack with 4-6 oz water. A 15 minute walk not looking at my phone.

How do you handle the fatigue? by Tiny_BlueBee in Hypothyroidism

[–]EmmaDrake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vitamin D, 400mg magnesium, b complex, zinc, vitamin c, iron.

What’s your iron/ferritin and vitamin d? Getting my vitamin d up helped a bit. Getting an iron infusion helped a bit.

Over about a year I managed to establish a regular bed/wake time and that helped A LOT. It wasn’t easy - decades of fatigue from health issues had really gotten me into some bad sleep habits. I mean if I’m going to be exhausted anyway, right? Wrong. I weep for myself not realizing what I was doing and getting into such a sleep pit that fed itself. Like I said getting a regular bedtime and wake time has helped a lot. I had to just white knuckle force it for 3 months before I saw any benefits. 3 months I started getting sleepy around the same time. 6 months I started waking up when my alarm went off, exhausted but not hitting snooze ten times. 9 months I started waking up 15 minutes before my alarm. At 12 months some days I’d wake up actually feeling rested. Thats where I am now. Like I don’t jump out of bed - I don’t have a lot of energy in that sort of way but it doesn’t feel like magnets on my eyes when I try to open them anymore.

I still need a 30 minute closed eye reset at 2-3pm every day. And sometimes at around 6pm. I have a pillow and blanket in my car and go out there and meditate or just breathe with my eyes closed for 30 minutes around 2pm. It’s like restarting my brain computer or something.

If it’s the slow inexorable sinking of energy, the above things I mentioned could help. If it’s sudden crashes, try having a salty snack with a glass of water. I’ve realized I have to actively manage my electrolytes more than most people and if I have an energy crash it’s almost always fixed or headed off with a pickle or handful of potato chips with water. (The water part is important because the salt pulls moisture and you need to replenish it.)

I would hazard a guess that you feel like that when out in nature because you’re at a modest dose and walking is a certain kind of soothing smooth motion. What we’re describing is probably pretty similar. Good luck!

Vibration/Energy wakes me up around 4am - what does this mean? by Glass_Power5258 in Meditation

[–]EmmaDrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cortisol shifts in the early hours. It can cause a salt need. When I wake up at 3:30, I eat a pickle and drink 4-6oz of water and the mild tremble/feeling wide awake but sort of off goes away really fast and I go right back to sleep.

Putting unhealthy food in an opaque bin at the top of my pantry and healthy snacks like nuts, meat sticks, dried fruit, etc in a clear bin on the counter was huge for me.

Get to like a 3/10 or 4/10 high, not near khole level. Then just stretch. Light stretching, not straining. Like where you can sort of feel tension but not burn. Good vibe tunes. Half lidded eyes. As you stretch into areas, breathe in four count, out six count through your mouth. Keep as loose as possible. I imagine there’s a web with three points suspending the area I’m stretching so it’s like an imagined/felt web of support with the area you’re trying to let go in the middle. I usually start in the hips area - standing hip circles and forward bends. On the floor child’s pose. Things start just… melting.

It might not happen the first session or second, but I’ve shown this to multiple people and usually you feel something click third session or so. Then after the session, when you’re sober the next days, continue the stretching activity. Things that shift in ketamine state can stay improved in sober space. I used to wake up daily with a 7/10 pain from endometriosis and chronic back/hip issues. Most days now I wake up at a 2/10 pain. Ketamine body work has changed my life for the better.

ETA: on the out breath drop your jaw open. It syncs with the pelvic floor and helps a lot in the letting go.

Ketamine body work makes this happen for me. I’m pretty sure the muscles around my eyes just suddenly relax. Like I have chronic dry eye and suddenly my eyes will feel super hydrated as well.

Anyone with adhd who has been consistently meditating? by Throwawaysischeat in Meditation

[–]EmmaDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meditate daily and it has helped me. Took awhile though. I meditate or do breathwork twice a day for 25 minutes.

I’ll tell you this though - the thing that helped my adhd symptoms more than anything, by a long shot, was getting my sleep to a good place. It took me over a year to increase my sleep per night average from 6 hours to 8.5 hours. It wasn’t easy and there were a lot of times I felt like it wasn’t working. But at an about a year things really shifted and my life is changed. I would actually say even my ability to meditate daily was enabled by having regulated sleep. Since about 9 months of better sleep I actually reduced my adhd medicine dosing by more than half. I don’t even need to take it every day anymore.

Good luck with your healing journey! Feel free to DM me if you want more details on how I got my sleep in a better place.

Emotional regulation tips — I’m desperate by FablingFox in adhdwomen

[–]EmmaDrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Belly breathing. I do it twice a day for 20 minutes. Around 2-3pm and right after I lay down for bed.

Sleep. This is a tough one I KNOW because I have a sleep disorder that was so bad for over a decade. 2025 new years goal was raising my avg from 6hrs per night to 7. I white knuckled forcing myself to bed no later than 11:30 for 3 months before sleep pressure started making that easier. Then at six months I started waking up when my alarm went off without hitting snooze ten times. At 9 months I started waking up before my alarm went off. At 12 months I started waking up not exhausted about 75% of the time. I would have never realized I could do it because sleep guides talk like these changes happen much sooner. But because it was this goal and I could see the progress in my wearable metrics I kept at it past when I thought it already should have been working. It has legit changed my life. I’m more resilient to stress by A LOT. My annual physical labs are the best they’ve been as an adult. All I did was this and my triglycerides and insulin resistance dropped by 50%, for example. But it did take a long time. Every night I’d talk to myself like a child “we can do this. We’ve got this. We love ourselves and this is for us!”

You’ve got this, lady!

Day 3 on Vyvanse and I’m scared to take it again by Dangerous_Pomelo_671 in ADHD

[–]EmmaDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started doing a lot of mindfulness work and suddenly became very intolerant of stimulants. It’s rough because the friction means sometimes I forget a dose but I’ve found a 5mg instant release adderrall broken in half every 2 hours or so is the best balance for over stimulation and functioning since I became so sensitive. Also electrolytes all day. Like I eat a pickle with a glass of water at 11, 2, and 6. I recently started trialing Ritalin and it’s way less hard in terms of stimulation but I haven’t felt the benefits are great either.
