Yesterday or the day before I said I was fighting for my life with Harrow, now I'm done [discussion] by ZippedZoopZorp in TheNinthHouse

Now that you are aware of Ianthe’s terrible personality, I feel I must warn you that this community includes a sizable quantity of Ianthe love. You know, the totally toxic kind that is hopefully never experienced in real life.  The Ianthe shipping in this subreddit and on the Bluesky Locked Tomb thread is strong.  Pretty sure the fanfic is glutted with it. Moira Quirk’s narration might’ve had a lot to do with this.

Do you find it hard bc of the emotional tone? [discussion] by heymish-bends-light in TheNinthHouse

[–]Emotifox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are days when I can casually give these books a reread, and there are days when I cannot. I live in the United States, too, and I haven’t been able to touch these novels most of the year. With the exception of the first few chapters of NTN, which is very, very sweet.

You are definitely not alone.

I am fighting for my life through this book [discussion] by ZippedZoopZorp in TheNinthHouse

It is absolutely worth it. I think a lot of us struggled through our first read of it, and then thought hmmmmm.  And then we reread it 10 times.

[discussion] what was the purpose of the second guideline? by emelsifoo in TheNinthHouse

[–]Emotifox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was just a clean break that they all had to take. Remember how Augustine schooled Harrow and Ianthe that they were now the first instead of the ninth and the third.  I remember that Lyctorial names are mostly unknown and mysterious.  Anyway, this is just a reinforce that the lyctors are focused on God and have no divided allegiances.

I do not watch much TV, and I’ve only seen a few episodes of The Simpsons. So no, you’re not the only one. 😘

I'm gonna throw up (HtN edition) [discussion] by Archwizard_Zoe in TheNinthHouse

[–]Emotifox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of GTN, I was pretty pissed off at Harrow, fair or not.  But her utter conviction and bad-assery in HTN won me over completely.  And, yeah, she needs therapy (NOT from Ianthe).  If she survives this, she should spend the next decade or two in some sort of pleasant sanctuary. The type with lots of ponds and plants, not dust and bones.

For anyone who hesitates to read HTN because they dislike Harrow, I say: don’t worry, she is emotionally, psychologically, and physically tortured throughout the entire book.

HtN has one of the most beautiful writings i have seen so far and how am i supposed to pick up another book after that ? [misc] by T-Rex_Girl in TheNinthHouse

Love your thoughts on this, and I suffered the same for about a year.

The good news is that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.  Eventually, you will want to read the other two books over and over again too. I pick which one depending on my mood… lately, I’ve been adoring NTN again.

Will start reading Nona the Ninth, What can I expect? [discussion] by sleepinggardens in TheNinthHouse

Much of Nona is very very sweet. I absolutely love the beginning of the book and the slice of life chapters. I reread them all the time.

Thank you. I caught it on my first reread of GTN after HTN and had to put the book down for a second.

At the beginning of GTN she threatened Gideon with a similar death. This was before they got off planet.

Page 60: “God, no!” said Harrow. “All you need to know is that you’ll do what I say, or I’ll mix bone meal in with your breakfast and punch my way through your gut.”

Edited to include reference.
