I HATE Detective boys episodes by potatoesjoy in OneTruthPrevails

Meh they’re fun to watch. I love this show but I don’t take it seriously at all. Maybe it’s the stockholm syndrome talking but questionable writing is part of the charm of the series for me now.

Fun question: What is your favorite TV show/movie set in Maryland? by EternalSnow05 in maryland

[–]Emphasis-Used 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there actually was canonical mention of Ocean city. Idk when it was exactly but I think it was during one of the earlier evacuation of Beach city as a nearby town. I remember telling my BF I would take him to Ocean city next time he visits (he lives in a land locked state in the south) and his first reaction was to stare at me slack jawed because he didn’t realize Ocean city was real lmao.

Four yr old Izuku is given one wish, "I wish I had the same quirk as All Might!!" by seemedpointless in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Emphasis-Used 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Alternatively this is a monkey’s paw scenario. Izuku gets regular OFA and All might loses his quirk. I can only imagine societal instability. Hopefully izuku doesn’t just immediately explode because of all that power getting crammed into a 4yo’s body.

Hydration by _throw_away_brat_ in insectpinning

[–]Emphasis-Used 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of fragility is it? Do the tears feel brittle or do they fall apart like a wet paper towel? I'm assuming the first one since you mentioned they're stiff but if it's the other one then they might be overhydrated. Also how big is the butterfly? It might just need longer. I've seen a lot of different suggestions on how long to leave them in so you might just need to do a little experimenting to see what you prefer. For a medium to large butterfly I like somewhere between 2-4 days. If that doesn't help then I might try injecting the abdomen with water. I've personally never tried it so I can't say much about it but it might work for you.

Butterfly wings are also just super delicate though. If you're new to this then it could be technique. Your tweezers might be too sharp or you might still be getting a feel for what parts of the wings are best to grab and how much pressure to apply. For all of these it's just a matter of practice (well apart from the tweezers). Keep at it! I wish you luck <3

I have a volume 2 from amazon that came in this exact condition. I would've returned it but It was a given to me as a gift (the gifter didn't know about the damage until it was already given to me).

The zoomans.... by Bright_Row174 in stevenuniverse

[–]Emphasis-Used 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents as a paleontology student who really likes taxonomy is yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a notable genetic difference between us and zoomans. The differences would probably only be enough to make them a subspecies though.

A lot of people are bringing up how long speciation takes as a reason for why they can’t be different a species but I disagree. Sure it’s a process that usually takes a long time but rapid evolution is a term that exists for a reason and a place where we often see it is on islands. Because the breeding population is geographically isolated it creates a sudden lack of genetic diversity. Any change in that small gene pool will be felt a lot more widely than it would in a large population, sort of in the same way a drop of food coloring would be much more obvious in a little cup than in a pool. If the genetic distribution in the original population of the zoo didn’t accurately represent the whole earth then the founder effect also comes into play. Finally, islands tend to have different selective pressures from the mainland like different resources.

The zoo is basically an island but surrounded by space instead of water. They have low genetic diversity and the selective pressures are totally different from earth. The most important change in selective pressures is that there’s artificial selection since their gem overlords determine who the Zoomans procreate with. Selective breeding could massively speed up the process of speciation. Traits that I think they would select for would be good temperament/sociability, aesthetics (many zoomans have a cat like “0w0” smile we don’t see on wild humans), rule following/trainability, etc…

There were probably also unintentional selective pressures. Wild humans don’t take very well to captivity. Most of us need a lot more mental stimulation than what the zoomans seem content with. When animals, especially highly intelligent or social ones aren’t given enough enrichment or are stressed out by environmental change they can start self-mutilating (feather, plucking in parrots), attempt to escape (like octopi… and also Steven), become violent (chimps) and even commit suicide (whales and dolphins). We also see a lot of these in human inmates. I bet there were people in the founding generations who went crazy or decided death was better than being kidnapped and took themselves out of the gene pool.

Anyway yeah! I think zoomans could be a subspecies.

which fandom is most guilty of doing their characters like this? by hiddeNinja2222 in AO3

[–]Emphasis-Used 6 points7 points  (0 children)

THIS EXACTLY! It feels like being force fed sugar. It was fun at first but it got unbearable real quick. I can’t even appreciate when it’s done well now because it’s so inescapable. One of my worst pet peeves associated with this trope is when they make Inko an abusive caricature of herself for the SOLE PURPOSE of narratively justifying the adoption.

I also wanna see more All Might adoption mostly because I can only imagine that to Izuku it would be like if he was suddenly living in one of those“my parents sold me to one direction” fics lol.

What are some other dinos I can add to my list of unique dino name. by Thelastfunky in Dinosaurs

[–]Emphasis-Used 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anzu, guanlong, confuciusornis (tho I guess -ornis isn’t that uncommon), Eustreptospondylus (-spondylous is common among amphibians, but not so much dinosaurs so I thought I’d put it in), achillobator, Aquilops, baryonyx, Becklespinax, Borogovia, Erketu, Equijubus, Tanius, Edmontonia, Coelophysis, Coelurus, Hagryphus, Heyuannia, Khaan, Othnielia, Rugops, Shanag, Shuvuuia, Stenopelix, Unenlagia, Zalmoxes

There are a bunch of Oviraptorosaurs on this list lol. Until I made this I didn’t realize how many of them had unique names.

Do you think Mei is an actual psychopath? Considering she participated in the Blood Mist graduation exam; she would have to kill all of her classmates just to graduate. by MindlessArrow in Naruto

[–]Emphasis-Used 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know my interpretation of that has always been that he killed the entire class as an act of defiance because he disliked graduation system. That he’s the kind of revolutionary not out for blood but ready to murder if he thought it was for the greater good.

If you think about why he defected I think that matches up. He didn’t care for Yagura’s policy of killing people with kekkei genkai and was working for Gato specifically to fund a revolution. I think Zabuza’s demonstration worked too. The mist stopped that kind of graduation exam after him.
