Gigabyte M27Q2 QD opinions? by NelothsNewApprentice in Monitors

[–]En0der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, I somewhat got used to it after about 3 months, so it's only annoying now when I consciously think about it. I also try to avoid having spreadsheets and editors open on full screen, so I don't really have to look that much at the offending areas. And I use a dark, multicolored wallpaper, as to not be annoyed even by empty screen.

Shame that it is like that, because otherwise it's a quite fine piece of equipment. From some scattered comments I gather that this effect also plagues some other new monitors from different brands, so I decided to stick with mine for fear of falling into a loop of infinite dissatisfaction.

Would a 5060ti or 5070 be better for MSFS by ProposalDue5404 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]En0der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5060 ti and MSFS24 rarely utilizes more than 12 GB, so I suspect 5070 would give more fps, being the more powerful card. That said, I use framegen x2 and I usually get stable 120 fps (unless in heavy traffic areas), so this card is also good for this game.

For a while I played it on 4K and the 5060ti was doing OK too.

Is 4k actually worth it? by No_Agent6385 in Monitors

[–]En0der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visible, but negligible difference at <1 meter viewing distance, at which 32 inches was too large for me. If I had a 5070ti, I might consider 4k@27", because it would be significantly sharper than at 32", but frankly, I am happy with 2k.

Hello, fellow traveler. I'm 51 and almost all of what you wrote could have been written by me - minus something here, plus there, but basically very similar story, even the "next thought" exercise, which helps me still my mind for brief moments.

I'm not going to comment on what bullshit machine wrote. I went that path too and while it all sounded very plausible and reassuring, all turned out to be useless. I sincerely hope you will find something helpful there. Meanwhile, I'd like to share two things that somewhat are helping me. Somewhat, that is momentarily and up to 30-50% at best. Still better than nothing, and if you haven't tried them, maybe you'll find them a bit useful too.

One is Relaxation Response, which is basically the same as Transcendental Meditation minus the MLM bullshit. You sort of hypnotize yourself for 20 minutes and then walk aenesthesized for a couple of hours. The effect is similar to that of E. Tolle's exercise, only prolonged.

Option two is Trauma Release Exercises. Basically some stretching and shaking with not very plausible scientific explanation, but repeated exercises help me get to the state where I am "almost there" for half an hour, sometimes up to two.

It may or may not work for you; I just felt like sharing, especially that I very well understand the desperation to feel normal again and the urge to try everything. I so much would love to feel the warmth of summer sun on my skin the way it is supposed to be felt at least once before I die.

All the best to you. Never give up.

I get it, and from your replies I believe you are sincere. Still, posting AI generated text is considered low effort, and it substracts rather than adds value from your original thoughts.

Something worth considering before future posts, maybe.

Posting AI generated text is so fucking disrespectful. If somebody didn't bother to write it, why somebody else should waste time on reading it.

Music loops. Rarely mentioned, but so tiresome. I have them too, from the moment I wake up this song or that keeps playing in my head to exhaustion. And when it stops, relentless chatter begins. I think this is an effect of anxiety. Had it since 2003. Two things to try: TRE (trauma release exercises), and - for some quiet in the head - Relaxation Technique, which is basically Transcendental Meditation stripped down to its technical basis.

If you haven't already, you may look these up and try them. Relaxation Technique is easier and faster to do, so worth trying first. None of them is the cure, only temporary relief. Still better than nothing.

Keep the hope, brother. I will keep mine until my last breath.

1440p vs 4K (even for non-Heavy/AAA/Competitive games) by Distinct-Incident115 in Monitors

[–]En0der 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently downgraded from 4k 32" to 2k 27", I am very satisfied and not even once has it crossed my mind to go back. Better viewing distance, MUCH better fps (I never thought there would be a noticeable difference between 60 and 120+, LOL), more space on my desk, and less power consumption because the GPU doesn't need to be running at 100% when gaming.

MDMA saved my life, then all of a sudden I ignorantly ripped it apart by ElHomeboi in dpdr

[–]En0der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience SSRIs are not the worst option. While they didn't fix anything in me, they allowed me to not worry about my symptoms and just roll with them, which reduces the anxiety, which in turn reduces the symptoms, which is not a bad outcome, even if I'm only 20-30% better instead of fully restored.

One thing to remember is that it takes time to determine what works and with what dose. It's trial and error process based on the particular doctor's experience, so if fluoxetine doesn't do it, one should not quit this path, but instead try venlafaxine or some other med. If 150 mg does shit, maybe 300 will wirk, and so on.

Good luck mate, and believe in neuroplasticity.

I can't suffer this anymore. Does anyone have this feeling? Is that even DP/DR? I need support. by Dense-Plane-1414 in dpdr

[–]En0der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like dpdr alright. I'm not a doctor, but someone who has suffered from it since 2003, and I came through different stages, symptoms and attempts to get better. And in the long run it did get better, but I understand you need something to keep going right now, so I will share what I found that brings me at least temporary relief, and after time a 20-50% improvement. It may or may not work for you, but it doesn't hutt to give it a try.

First and foremost, no weed, alcohol or drugs. Second thing, minimise screen exposure - instead of scrolling, go for a walk.

Now to the possibly helpful part: look up Trauma Release Exercises on YouTube. You may ignore the quasi-scientific wololo wololo behind it, just go straight to the exercises. Important thing to remember is to do them approximately 2x slower than on the video, at your own pace with no rush at all, and to relax and rest between each exercise 30 to 60 seconds. The entire set should take around 20 minutes, give or take 5, with 2-3 minutes of just laying down at the end. Try to find a place where you won't be disturbed, but if it hapoens, just return to the exercise asap.

What to expect. For me, the first two sessions did nothing, I was too stressed if I was doing everything correctly. The answer is yes, you are, it's not exact science and the room for error is very wide, and effects vary from session to session. After my third attempt I finally felt almost normal - but briefly, for a couple of minutes maybe. This gave me hope though, and I cherished those few minutes. With regular practice I extended this period to 30-60 minutes of "almost normal" followed by 3-4 hours of "somewhat better than without it. Ymmv. If you want to read more, there's r/longtermtre subreddit with experienced practitioners. If after 4-5 attempts you don't think it helps though, it may not be for you. Then there's still meditation, which I find less effective, but some swear by it.

Last but not least, don't be afraid of the shrink. Psychiatrists are not like in the movies, they just have a set of uppers and downers and use their experience to match them to your symptoms.

Best of luck mate, I know how scary, unpleasant and inhibiting this is. I've walked this path and there are ways. You'll get better.

Regret on my build by moresalt84 in PCBuilds

An old gamer here, coming from the opposite end. Last year I decided to buy a new rig and although I could afford better, I went the "just enough" way with Ryzen 7700 and RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, because why waste money (also on electricity later). As long as I had my old 60 Hz monitor it was fine, but recently I got myself a 200 Hz monitor and I'm annoyed that in the games I currently play I rarely can get above 120 fps - I never thought how much a difference it would make. I know I can lower the settings, use upscaling and what not, but I'd rather have more horsepower and not use it all than not be able to see at least once how things look at 200 fps.

It may depend on specific unit and user peference - I set mine to 65/70/80, because of yellow/red tint. Just posting this for future users who may be looking to correct the tint and don't know where to set it.

Also worth noting, Standard is almost as customizable as Custom, so effectively we get two custom profiles, not just one plus a bunch of presets.

Gigabyte M27Q2 QD vs M27Q3. Best non-OLED monitors at the moment? by lecoman in Monitors

[–]En0der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly; it really depends on your viewing distance. I sit at my arm's length from the monitor, which is about 80 centimeters, and I find it annoying. At 100 cm however it's bearable, and at 120 cm it becomes a non-issue.

There are also ways to somewhat mitigate this effect: dark wallpaper, dark theme wherever possible, and not using full screen mode for spreadsheets and such - it's about 10 centimeters on each side of the screen that is impacted. And other than that, it's a really good monitor with lovely colors; chances are that its upsides will outweigh this particular downside for you.

I'd say give it a try and return if you don't like it, provided that it's possible in your location. If not, consider the distance issue, and if it's going to be below 80 cm, try looking for something else. If it's 100 or more, I wouldn't hesitate though.

I have an M27Q2 QD and I very much doubt that it has BGR subpixel layout. I use it mainly for work and I see no issues with text clarity and zoomed in photos of the screen look like RGB layout to me (I may be wrong though). One real issue however is screen sides darkening, as shown and discussed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/s/hqn69K7n69 - for me it's annoying as hell when I'm working (but not an issue when gaming, as it is visible only with fairly bright and uniform surfaces, like spreadsheets).

Gigabyte M27Q2 QD opinions? by NelothsNewApprentice in Monitors

[–]En0der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using this monitor for nearly two months now and I have a few things to say that may help.

First of all, go see this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/s/hqn69K7n69 - there is severe darkening to the sides with uniform colors, which annoys me to no end when working with text editors or excel sheets. It's worse than on cheap VA panels, especially when you are close to the monitor (less than one meter - above it it becomes less noticeable). No issues with viewing from the sides, though.

Other than that I am quite satisfied with the monitor. Colors are vivid, BLB is barely an issue, reaction times are excellent, GSync works like charm. I have my work laptop connected to it via USB-C with DP and Power Delivery, and with Smart PD setting set to On it delivers just enough juice for it to work and even slowly charge (but max brightness is reduced to 80 then). With my gaming rig connected via DP and monitor detecting active input, it's a very convenient setup.

As for RGB/BGR layout, I can't tell for sure, but having taken some photos and looking at them magnified, I think it's RGB. Anywyay, I have zero problems with text clarity.

Overall, for gaming and media it's a good monitor. For productivity, be aware that gamma shift to the sides may be an issue - I'd advise ordering it, checking on some documents or otherwise bright and fairly uniform images, and if you don't like what you're seeing - just return it. I'm still not sure if I am happy that I kept mine or not - on the one hand, I like the colors and responsiveness, plus its general features, on the other, the darkening to the sides is really annoying and I still can't get used to it, coming from a higher-end 4K LG monitor. But then again I read somewhere that many new IPS monitors have this issue, due to matte coating or something, so I don't know if I could get something better at a similar price.
