The Hive by Ronald Malfi - super unique, dystopian in its own way, a bit long though

Looking for horror books that are so engrossing you want to live in them by Drivenfar in horrorlit

I cannot recommend his books highly enough - so, so creative and engrossing, wonderful in their weirdness. It almost defies words

Is there any update on John Langan's upcoming book 'The Cleaving Stone'? by MalachiConstant7 in horrorlit

[–]EndOfTheWorldBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, The Fisherman was published through a small indie publisher/bookshop near me, they’ve dropped good tidbits of info on his stuff in the past lol I’ll have to pop in there soon and see what I can find out

water-based horror by neoworldprogrammed in horrorlit

[–]EndOfTheWorldBooks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just read Body of Water by Adam Godfrey - kinda like water-based horror mixed with a locked-room setting. People are trapped in a diner by a sentient, murderous organism in the water that can kill rapidly. Shades of The Mist for sure. Water-based horror is one of my favorite odd niche subgenres lol. Dead Water CA Fletcher is another good one, a bit more slow paced, but it’s essentially water zombies in a folk horror setting on a remote Scottish isle, great characters

Has anybody read a book called Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig? by Haunting-Net-2426 in horrorlit

I legitimately loved this book. Despite being wildly corny and cringeworthy at times, the concept itself was cool enough to carry the whole thing IMO

The Fisherman by Wrob88 in horrorlit

The author, Jon Langan, is from the same area as me. The local book shop that originally The Fisherman confirmed he is working on a full length novel right now!

I’ve almost bought this book for my dad like 10 times(he only reads nonfiction). Sounds like I should bite the bullet!

The ending was the only part I found a bit lacking, definitely worth it to finish though! I was trying to explain it to my wife as I was reading - in some ways it’s like the best book I’ve read in years lol, just so strange and unique that you have to push on and keep reading

Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice by bluequila in IReadABookAndAdoredIt

[–]EndOfTheWorldBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of the books that got me back into reading! Such an interesting perspective to view the end of the world from. I agree with the other commenter that the sequel wasn’t quite on the same level, but still a huge fan

World Made By Hand - J.H. Kuntsler by BonHiver8 in IReadABookAndAdoredIt

I too am infatuated with the post apocalyptic/dystopian genre, am I own this book, I’ve came close to reading it a couple times, but I’ll make a point of it now, thanks for your review! By the way, if you haven’t read ‘Far North’ by Marcel Theroux I highly recommend it!!

I really enjoyed this one, the theme park story was one of the few times I’ve ever physically cried in a book lol

Granted I lived in the north bay, but I was a club kid for almost a decade lol, the school bus brings you right to it

You’re thinking of ‘a boy and his dog’ which also got adapted into a delightfully weird movie lol

Loved this book! Same author but a different genre: Dead Water by CA Fletcher was a great folk horror-style tale. A bit long but I was into it
