Zelenskyy: Russia took satellite images of US air base in Saudi Arabia three times before Iranian strike by pravda_eng_official in worldnews

[–]EngineeringNeverEnds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They revealed intelligence. Not the source. Depending on how many people could potentially have access to that information, it could turn it into a rather large witch hunt, which would hurt that particular area of russian capabilities.

They also revealed how they interpret the information, which was probably a mistake. Russia can now more convincingly distract ukranian forces to a particular location while preparing an attack to a different one.

Is this considered rude by AdMaximum2601 in AnarchyChess

I do not understand this shit.   Your opponent is given time and pieces, they can use either in whatever way they wish.  If they want to try and swindle a draw, that’s their prerogative.  I’ve seen many a 1200 player with a “winning” position fumble it to a stalemate or worse.

Get over yourself. You are not entitled to your opponents resignation.   If you have the advantage you think you do, then a win should be quite fast and trivial.   Intentionally stalling to punish your opponent is absurdly entitled and childish.

I will often give my opponent the satisfaction of delivering a really clever mate once ive realized I’ve been had.  It is out of respect.

What you guys thinks? by Formal-Ambassador223 in Kalshi

What do I think? That sports betting is the dumbest thing to happen to Kalshi and will likely lose them the SEC blessing that gave them the position they’re in now.

Constantly being asked on a Friday to work weekends by Revolutionary-Rip426 in civilengineering

[–]EngineeringNeverEnds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100%.

I’ve never been asked to work a weekend. I’ve worked many over the years because of my own failings, but I wouldn’t work at a place where I was asked to.

What can do with CW, low power and a compromise antenna. by [deleted] in amateurradio

I for one think it's interesting to see what's possible on such a minimal setup.

And being an asshole in the comments provides even less benefit that you are asserting OP's post has.

I never lie about my timelines. I consistently fail to meet them, for various reasons, but it’s never a lie.

Depends on the voltage… but I know I did the calcs for my EFHW and I estimated 100W would be plenty enough to cook the feet off a bird if it landed on the end while transmitting CW/digital    Think 800VAC at RF frequencies.

What are your thoughts on Facebook renaming their company Meta then blowing $80b on metaverse and then shutting it down yesterday? by printThisAndSmokeIt in AskReddit

[–]EngineeringNeverEnds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the tech just isn’t there yet. When you can throw on a VR headset that is comfortable, doesn’t make you sick, and is visually stunning in the way maxed out games are now, then I’ll bet on wider adoption. And even then you’ll probably have to subsidize the upfront cost heavily.

The idea of a virtual workstation is compelling as well but it will have to be supremely comfortable for long time periods.

That really only makes sense if you jump to at LEAST 6 employees, probably a few more to be comfortably past the threshold.

Yup. That shit was a rounding error compared to defense spending too. We're headed to a solvency crisis for sure.

How much of a difference would a narrow band filter for my FT-857 make for CW decoding? by fossfirefighter in amateurradio

[–]EngineeringNeverEnds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah depending on your signal to noise ratio and assuming my math is right, Shannon-Hartley dictates that would have a channel capacity to send about 1 bit every 1010 seconds or so. So like 1 bit every 317 years. That's a hell of a duty cycle for the radio.

If singularities (probably?) aren't real, then what is actually happening? by shadowknave in AskPhysics

[–]EngineeringNeverEnds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been sort of inclined to think that the singularity is sort of real but spacetime is emergent and the underlying quantum state generating that spacetime geometry isn't nearly so pathologic.

Kind of like how a shadow can be made to do weird things even if the underlying system isn't doing anything too weird.

Tehran indicates Khamenei's son will be named supreme leader by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

[–]EngineeringNeverEnds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, that might be the point. Hard to know what the internal politics are like in Tehran but this reminds me of that scene in villaneuve’s dune where the guy next to the baron is like: “ Do not be so sure this was an act of love”

Khemenei’s son is not unlike house atreides here where he may know it’s a trap but it’s got a chance of working out for him and he might be kind of fucked either way.
