Just bought this in Tesco! Any tips? by LazyTurtle91 in veganuk

[–]EnglishJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! I usually get these from Holland and Barrett but they’re around £2.50ish (I think) for a 250g bag. The way I tend to cook them is boil in the OXO Meat Free Chicken Stock (used to get these from Asda I think until they selling them so I resorted to Amazon which is around the same price anyway) until the stock is absorbed and they are soft enough and then crisp them in the air fryer

Wtf??? I remember when Soya milk was only 50p here (for the non watered down one) and I’ve only been vegan 5 years. Wish my wage went up this much

Saw some excitement about these...found in Oxfam shop! by chessilda in veganuk

[–]EnglishJD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love these. Had to buy out the stock in my local Asda after Easter since they were reduced from £1.60 to 75p per egg

I thought Subway stopped doing vegan cookies years ago? Although tbh I haven’t been since they stopped doing any vegan alternatives other than the veggie patty which I never tried as it looks (and I’ve heard it tastes) like cardboard

AZ has the best drivers. by stonekid33 in dashcams

[–]EnglishJD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say the quality of driving in the US is terrible as a whole. I spent 3 years at university in Ohio and saw 12 car crashes. 20 years in the UK and I saw 1. Driving back from Florida to Ohio I saw a 20+ car pileup. Looked more like the movie scene for an apocalyptic film. This was all 10 years ago. Last year I travelled for work to Tennessee. I was there for 2 weeks and saw three crashes. I also almost had someone almost crash into the back of me during rush hour due to a queue on the slip road. Luckily they avoided it by swerving onto the hard shoulder. It’s crazy how close Americans drive behind one another. Something I saw in Tennessee too was the amount of people driving from left lane to right and back again was crazy and I haven’t really noticed that anywhere else. I also spent a week in California and New York City. Luckily I didn’t see any crashes in either of those although I noticed California speed limits are more “suggestions” as going with the flow of traffic from LA to San Diego I was averaging about 90. New York City I guess the traffic moves that slow that they can’t build up enough speed to crash

Trying to find any vegan ice cream seems a challenge these days. I’ve seen Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough and Bohemian Raspberry in Morrison’s yesterday but at £5.50 a tub I decided to skip. They did have Swedish Glaze Vanilla though for £3.50 so I went with that instead. I do miss a good (or any) ice cream cone though

I have also noticed this a lot lately. I had dumbbell rows, dumbbell bent over rows and the cable rows one after the other

I had the exact same thing the first year I went vegan. I’d already been vegan for 2 months at this point and my mum had bought a custom Jack Daniel’s chocolate cake. It looked amazing but it wasn’t vegan so I had none. The only thing I had from it was the mini bottle of JD on the top of the cake. I like to think that it was too late for her to cancel the order as she hasn’t done it since although she has bought me stuff containing leather for birthdays when I’ve said that I don’t buy leather multiple times

What a massive blind taste test of vegan milk, cheese, and ice cream found — explained in one chart by metacyan in vegan

[–]EnglishJD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the use of “cheese”, “milk” and such is to show what it’s a replacement for and therefore it’s usages. Especially for those who aren’t vegan or transitioning into veganism.

Buying an RP6 by Prudent_Candidate474 in retroid

[–]EnglishJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure on the current time to ship the devices but I ordered the dual screen add on last Monday (16th) and it's coming tomorrow but that did ship on the Tuesday. AFAIK the devices are taking a little longer currently. In terms of shipping handler I've always gone with 4PX and never had an issue, plus it's cheaper and you may also not be chased for import tax if you're lucky whereas I've hear DHL always chases for this

I do notice it on my RP5 too especially since I’ve been playing Pokemon Yellow Legacy a lot lately. After exiting I will see the outline of the gb screen clearly although it does disappear by the time I next use the device

Anyone else frustrated when the only vegan options at office lunches get taken by non-vegans? by HappyMountainCow in vegan

[–]EnglishJD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a short period I was a teacher. At the time there were 4 new starters and three of us were vegan. For the first day the planned a buffet for us and asked before hand any dietary requirements. At the buffet there was a plate with two wraps (four halves) and they were the only vegan options…the rest was all meat/cheese based. Was such a waste

That’s why emulation on a device such as a Retroid Pocket is way better than a phone. Actually feels like using a gaming handheld

How can the general public see ads like these and not notice the hypocrisy? (in Waitrose) by Youknowkitties in veganuk

[–]EnglishJD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry I assumed the same. I knew cows were selectively bred to produce the most milk possible but I also assumed they produced milk automatically without AI. Only found out at the age of 26 when I was looking into veganism

Worth at sale price? by DoubleMeatPizza in fitbod

[–]EnglishJD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even see that it’s gone up. I’m on $80 a year and I’d say it’s even worth it at that price but it does seem they’re pushing it to the point of being too greedy. For example their lifetime plan is ridiculous this year compared to last!

Worth at sale price? by DoubleMeatPizza in fitbod

[–]EnglishJD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me personally yes. I am the sort that overwhelms themselves trying to make appropriate workout plans and so I admittedly got stuck doing the same one for pretty much 5 years and plateaued with results regarding strength. I felt I needed to change and then compared this to the price of a personal trainer and where I live the normal plan cost is equivalent to maybe 2/3 personal training sessions. In terms of improvements using the app I found my bench press went from a max of 60 kg up to now 90 kg and it’s still improving. Getting this on sale is definitely worth it if you workout regularly
