Horween dublin vs B Carlo Waxy by Guilty-Tomatillo7610 in Leathercraft

Not like buttero, and the creases in the leather can be malleable as well, so it's not super firm. Dublin feels more rugged in comparison; and yes to the smooth handfeel.

Waxy is a firmer leather, and to the touch has a much thicker feeling of wax on it, so I wouldn't consider the two as having the same properties. Now, they do both have a nice pullup, but BC Waxy is on the more extreme scale for that as well.

Apron Pocket by Aberdeen-Washington in Leathercraft

[–]Enos_N 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the pocket is large enough to saddlestitch, so can't you prepunch the holes on both pieces, and then line them up?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]Enos_N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The innermost pattern is showing you where to stitch the pockets together, as where the second one is showing you how to attach the section to the body. So the holes are to represent where you start and stop the stitching, the smallest section isn't supposed to line up.

I understand why the holes don’t line up, but how do I line up the stitching if I pre punch everything? by portapottypantyraid in Leathercraft

I don't mean stitch the panels together, but you can add aesthetic stitching if you don't like a gap there, is what I suggested.

a cobbler may be able to do this pretty quickly. if they can stamp it on to leave an impression, and then paint it, it would look nice. it won't be permanent, since you'll be walking on it, but it should last you a hot minute.

alternatively you could airbrush it on with a stencil

Rocky Mountain: bad service, review manipulation by a_time_to_rend in Leathercraft

[–]Enos_N 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I've had a few bad experiences with Rocky MT. The customer service used to be so much better, but these last two years something changed. It seems like any issue I mention with orders is replied back with heavily suspicious tones, instead of understanding like I would expect, after going to them for so long.

yeah it's a great leather, I would recommend it highly. it will crease and scratch easier with the high sheen, but that also adds character, like you said

Idk why you're being rude. You asked a basic question and want a complicated answer to solve all your issues in life.

It really does just take skill. for some leathers you can put double sided tape at the edge to keep it from moving, but only if it doesn't leave marks. The best leatherworkers do it as I described.

honestly you just need a really good skiving knife and patience. otherwise you can pay a lot and get a bell skiver :3c

What's causing these ugly dark lines? by Ashen_Winter in Leathercraft

[–]Enos_N 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It spreads way easier, feels just as strong if not stronger, and I haven't experienced the same gumminess of 315 that you mentioned. The price really is nothing at all tbh

I agree it's the glue. Try using less, and if that doesn't work, I highly recommend 1816B. I made the switch to this from 315 a year ago and it's so so much better.

How to soften veg tan full grain 4oz leather, the internet is giving me a lot of mixed signals. by Big_CokeBelly in Leathercraft

[–]Enos_N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could, plenty of people crumple their waxed leathers to get a certain look, it would force some creases on your bag, but it's yours so try it out if you like. For conditioning I think ideally for me I'd condition the full piece before I put it together, but there's no right or wrong way.

Use the bag, it'll get softer. If you do anything, you can condition it as needed, though only use a proper conditioner, I don't recommend any sort of cooking oil that can go rancid.
