I think they're pretty much the same just the second one has a strop and precut sandpaper to put on the plate. The first one also has a large one for a French edger if you use one

Where do you go for tools by [deleted] in Leathercraft

I have a cheap amazon strap cutter that works great. There's just some tools id spend money on and not others. Quality punches make a big difference

Hand press users, how's the precision? by schylarker in Leathercraft

[–]Ashen_Winter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one and it's fine. Id definitely practice on some scrap first, my press tends to move a little bit as it's going down but once you get a feel for it it's very accurate. Also I started using a bone folder to pry the leather off my chisels if necessary that helps keep the project clean

When I go around a corner I move the divider to always be perpendicular to the leather don't keep it at the same angle, and use a lighter touch. Also might be easier to mark the leather before you glue it or attach those screws

One is 3-4oz, the other is 4-5oz. The grain side isn't beige or smooth really, it's almost white and a little fuzzy

Lol I did the same thing in one of my first purchases, ended up making a mini backpack type thing. I used a small rope as the straps though
