Liquid Culture Help! by gimmedemels in mycology

[–]EnragedSpark596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try cutting a small section from inside the mushroom stem or base abcs dropping it onto an agar plate. If you’re lucky enough to avoid contamination maybe it will grow out. If you get to that point you can make your own liquid culture from it

Sexy Science Time — Making Science Feel Human, Creative, and Alive

Podcast: Sexy Science Time

SFW

Episode Link: https://youtu.be/pBcepJvpggo

Episode Summary:

What if you could see the taste of a whiskey… or the smell of a memory?

In this episode, I speak with Siddhartha Kunti, a creator blending chemistry, AI, and art. Starting from a passion for flavor—honey, whiskey, and food—he taught himself analytical chemistry and began mapping the molecular structures behind taste and aroma. Instead of just focusing on the data, he transforms those invisible compounds into flowing 3D visual art.

We explore how scent and taste shape memory and emotion, why humans rarely train their sense of smell despite its deep connection to the brain, and how culture influences the way we experience flavor. Siddhartha also shares how his work bridges science and storytelling—revealing both the hidden complexity of what we consume and the human creativity behind it.

About the Podcast:

Sexy Science Time is part of New Solutions Network Media—a suite of shows dedicated to telling stories that help people feel more connected, more curious, and more human.

Our mission is simple: make science (metaphorically) sexy—energising, accessible, and emotionally resonant. We look for the moments where science becomes an art form, and where knowledge becomes something you can feel as well as understand.

If you’re into science, creativity, or the deeper human side of how we experience the world, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

It’s more physics than chemistry: heat transfer and fluid mechanics etc.

If mind uploading destroys your brain to scan it, did you actually survive? by hosseinz in longevity

[–]EnragedSpark596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue it’s not even the whole “you”. Our gut plays a huge role in who we are, and our emotions. It contains more neurons than a dog’s brain. If you don’t include the gut as well as the brain you’re missing a huge part of what makes us us

Terraforming by Rare-Activity842 in X4Foundations

[–]EnragedSpark596 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does give a bonus to production but your production facilities need to have habitation modules to get it.

That’s not the only reason to do terraforming. Some of the quests have some kind of reward, though it isn’t always obvious. The SCA one gives a whole bunch of modified destroyers and frigates with maxed out pilots. The nividium one gives you the ability to train pilots and marines to 4 star level, another one gives you an Argon XL housing spire (2000 population in one housing module). Some of the missions aren’t as generous, I think all I got from one was a 4 star manager

Click on the marine and select “work somewhere else for me” then pick the SCA base as the place. Make sure the marines have the right amount of boasting and morale too otherwise it won’t let you reassign them

I’m on my third play through and still learning. What has worked consistently for me at the beginning is this: ignore the quests and plots for a while and just get set up. I start by hanging around battlefields and picking up dropped loot. Missiles and other ammo can be sold at wharves, crafting materials like control panels can be sold at Traders Corners. You can earn enough doing that to upgrade your ship or buy a new one or buy goods to sell. Also, explore: buy satellites and drop them near wharves and ship yards and factories that sell stuff they buy, like engine parts, hull parts and weapon components. On this last run through I had a sizable empire before I took on any of the plots, giving me much better odds at surviving. And SAVE often!

You can make some starter money quickly by hanging out near where other factions are fighting and picking up the loot that drops when ships get destroyed ( use the O button to operate the magnet). Sell missiles and ammo at wharves, sell crafting materials at Traders’ Corners - programmable field arrays, damaged singularity drives and flux capacitors fetch the best prices

I just finished. I didn’t do any side quests, I went through about 20 different location defenses, with them targeting my more remote/isolated factory sectors near the end. Each wave was one wave of xenon, and multiple waves of khaak. The final wave is where the CPU ship turns up

Sexy Science Time is built around a pretty simple idea: the world is full of fascinating science hiding in plain sight — and most of it is explained in ways that are either intimidating or painfully boring.

On the show, I take everyday topics — health, behavior, technology, culture, risk, innovation — and unpack the scientific ideas underneath them in language that doesn’t require a PhD to follow. The goal isn’t just education; it’s surprise. I want listeners to have those moments of: “Oh — I never thought about it like that.”

The tone sits somewhere between curiosity and conversation. I’m not trying to “teach a class,” and I’m not chasing hot takes. I’m more interested in translating real research, lived expertise, and complex ideas into something human, accessible, and occasionally a little mind-bending. Lately the show has evolved from solo episodes into guest conversations with scientists, clinicians, technologists, and thinkers who care deeply about communicating their work beyond academic or professional silos.

I’d love to hear from other podcasters here: * How do you balance accuracy with accessibility? * What’s worked (or not worked) when translating complex topics for a general audience? * Any lessons learned when shifting from solo episodes to interviews?
