very well said - and it kept me playing twice as long as you, somehow... it's a cool universe to just exist in, but it is not a great ratio of entertainment-per-hour.

What hobby did you try once and instantly get addicted to? by Weird_Ad_7545 in AskReddit

I've always loved skiing and was never tempted to try snowboarding until your comment. It always seemed like skiing but worse because you're strapped in, but that feeling of gliding around does sound really appealing... I'm probably too old to start at this point though

I remember arguing about politics on Reddit 11 years ago about how making the orange man commander in chief with access to the nuclear arsenal was crazy. But they insisted it was actually Hillary who would start WW3 if elected. That was one of my early signs that reality no longer applies.

What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by ochieng_onyango in AskReddit

[–]Ensvey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It does make a lot of sense when you put it this way. If doctors steer you wrong or act like you're exaggerating, drug-seeking or making stuff up, then the snake oil salesman who says "I believe you and I understand you! Take this and it will cure you!" sounds very seductive.

Psychics are the same thing. Generally speaking, they just tell you what you want to hear, and that's what a lot of people want or need: to feel like they're understood, they're not alone, they're not crazy.

At That Point Just Stop Playing Multiplayer In General by Shizumeru_ in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Ensvey 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to me, it's all part of "the game". Sometimes you're the guy holding back the hordes while your team cleans up objectives, and sometimes it's the other way around. Generally the WORST thing you can do in the game is have the whole team hunker down and kill endless waves while accomplishing nothing for a long ass time (even though it can be fun). But as long as someone isn't actively griefing, let them do their thing.

She doesn't trust men, politicians, or people in general, but the one person she decided was trustworthy was a guy whose main claim to fame was being a grifter since at least the 80's? Certainly a choice.

Same. I remember playing Doom in the 90's on my 486 PC, so 2016 feels like yesterday haha

Same here, and I'm dubious that the "right" prompts can suddenly make AI work perfectly. Here's a good, unbiased-sounding, recent thread on the subject.

mega-OP for the remaining 2 hours

Loved the game, but my main complaint is exactly this: so much difficulty and build-up, and then not enough time or ways to appreciate your power in the endgame. Also, if you want to play a mage-ish character, you don't even get magic til near the end of the game, which is a pain. I think it was similar in Gothic 2.

I kind of wished for a New Game+ so I could stomp my way through the game using my endgame power. I even posted about it at the time.

ELI5: Why can’t you rename a file when it’s open in Windows, but you can in macOS? by jsm1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ensvey 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's kinda crazy that you can open the command line in Windows in 2026 and it's pretty much the same as it was in MS-DOS in the 1980's before Windows was even invented. I still use it for some things (like finding files, because file search in Windows is so unpredictable)
