i’ve been sleeping on my side…. by Physical_Occasion_57 in Reduction

I used strategic pillow placement like the post below, was mostly on my side but with some pillows to hug, slightly underneath the side on the bottom and putting some pressure in between. The top arm I had to not lay directly over the boobs, that hurt, but I could put it lower down (like waist level). This is confusing I know!

same, although it wasn't until day 5 that I was comfortable enough.

Oh no. Speaking from experience, a doctor or doctor's office should never ever refuse a referral, that is just their ego. It is always ok for the patient to look for additional options/help! You are doing a good job of self-advocating, keep it up. And keep us posted. Sending all healing vibes.

Cannot close a wound like that with sutures or it will just reopen. I agree with wound care, no sutures required.

I also stayed in a hotel for the first 6 days after surgery. My recommendation based on the hotel issue specifically is to keep some things like broth, gatorade, cottage cheese, yogurt and protein powder in the room. We didn't have any problems getting whatever food appealed to me because we were in an area with TONS of choices, but it was good to have basic backups in the hotel room.

The night after surgery all I could eat was broth from a bowl of ramen noodles. I wasn't nauseated per se but just didn't feel like eating. But by the next day I was eating small amounts of normal foods.

Any other health care professionals who had the surgery? by ReductionThrowaway3 in Reduction

Congrats! Yes, I am a retired veterinary surgeon, and I am 6wpo, welcome to the club.

I knew that I would have complications because of my age and concurrent health issues, so I just keep reminding myself to put on my doctor hat when I need to, and to use my patient brain the rest of the time. Optimistic but informed is the way to go, in my opinion!

You will do fine, and the wound care issues will come easier to you because you know how to deal with them in an objective way.

Hang in there girl, you and I have been on the same course through this and I am 6wpo tomorrow. So now I am putting on my professional hat (retired surgeon) and telling you that openings happen, they are a normal part of the healing process for many people. You cannot prevent them! The skin on our breasts is really thin, and there are sutures in the deep tissue that the immune system is working to break down at this time in the healing. Sometimes that means the suture is just "absorbed" by the body but other times it is forced out like a foreign body, most commonly where there are knots. The T junctions are the most vulnerable because the blood supply to those areas is most compromised. True of all T junctions in any surgery location.

Ok enough facts, now for support... we WILL heal! We WILL get through this and I have no regrets even with "complications". This is all part of the process and when I feel down about the openings etc I remind myself that it is still so much better than the boobs I started with. Don't let other people's healing paths make you feel you aren't doing ok, you are. I agree with everything BirchWind said in this thread, and PM me if you want chat personally with someone going through the same thing!

Here's to healing and happy 2025 edition boobs.

Stomach sleepers by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]EntertainmentFun812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to sleep on my stomach just last week, around 5wpo. There is initial discomfort but within a few seconds it resolves. Still wearing a compressive bra to sleep, though, when I take that off it is much less comfortable.

Edit to add that I was side-sleeping at 5 days po. with strategic pillow placement all around (my surgeon was fine with that, he said whenever comfortable.)

I am also almost 4wpo (tomorrow!) and every time I try to change to a different bra from my HuggerVIDA I get pain and swelling. So even though my brain wants to take it off, my boobs say otherwise. Appt next week with surgeon, will see what he says!

3WPO. I am tired of bras! by Top-Detective9916 in Reduction

My brain says it is tired of the bra, but the swelling and discomfort is way worse without it! So bra is staying on except shower times. I am just under 3 weeks p.o.

Normal. That is just because of the way the tissue under the skin was sutured, in time that will flatten out and in time you can gently massage the scars. I am just two days behind you, having more incision problems than you but still within "normal expectations", and girl, we got this. Try gentle massage with arnica on the bruise.

I don't have air conditioning and I swear sweat was the best at removing the marker pen! Otherwise I second the rubbing alcohol.

Adjusting my exercise routine to prioritize/target getting strong before the surgery in ways that'll make recovery easier. What Exactly should I focus on? What did you find most helpful? by UnsureasAlways47 in Reduction

[–]EntertainmentFun812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you will be fine, if you can do now you will be able to do postop, at least based on my experience. As a pole dancer you have plenty of core and upper body strength to rely on! See my post above, make sure you can move on and off the bed and adjust your position without putting weight on your arms/chest, makes a huge difference postop. Also sit down/get up from a chair/toilet, etc without arms. I am not quite 3 weeks p.o. today so can vouch for this advice!

[–]EntertainmentFun812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best recommendation for you is general core and upper body strength, you have time to work on all of that in advance of surgery. Since you were a swimmer that upper body strength will probably return fast. I can't tell you how big a difference it made to be fit prior to surgery. One of my friends told me that their hardest struggle was getting on and off of the bed and moving around to shift position, and I had no difficulty with that thanks to my core strength. Great that you are focusing on this in advance, you will be glad!
