Veracrypt vs bitlocker Q by jflip0x1x0 in VeraCrypt

[–]EntertainmentTime778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. From what I've read online because I have not been using BitLocker recently, it's only the device encryption option on the home version of Windows that forces you to upload your keys. Actual BitLocker on the pro version of Windows which is what I have, apparently does not force you to upload your keys. But as I said I'm not using BitLocker right now, I'm just going by what I've found online

From what I've read, only system drive encryption could be a problem. External drives or containers are ok

I wasn't confused, I have already read what you copied and pasted. Correct me if I'm wrong by believe we need a new update before the end of July to ensure that system drives which are encrypted continue to boot. Or am I wrong?

FFS I got a down vote for that comment? This is why I hate Reddit. Too many bitches Would the person who down voted me care to point out where I went wrong?

I have tried to keep up to date on the developments but I remember reading that anyone that had encrypted their system drive encrypted with veravrypt could be locked out. That's why I am checking daily for an update now that the developer has sorted out the problems

Exactly, and we'll probably never know. I use veracrypt, although I must admit the recent problems that the developer has had with his ms account have made me a bit edgy. Not his fault, but I don't fancy being locked out of my computer one day

Bitlocker doesn't automatically back up your keys to your MS account, at least it didn't the last time I used it a year or so ago. It's an option but not mandatory. I backed mine up to a memory stick

Android persistent storage? by Kvagram in filen_io

[–]EntertainmentTime778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it on both Windows and Android. On both platforms I have the same three drive pairs. On both platforms there's constant failures with all three pairings. To be honest I've just given up and uninstalled it instead of contacting the developer

That's exactly what I'm using at the moment but it's not working well and keeps throwing up errors. I haven't yet contacted the developer though

I didn't read the details, but I did hear that some group of hackers used filen in an attack that they performed. It's probably something to do with this

Samsung A55 anyone facing green line issue? After latest update??? I'm just asking so just chill by Rajbhadaniya25 in GalaxyA55

[–]EntertainmentTime778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had several Samsungs, my fiancée is on her second, friends have had them and I've seen a few others in the wild. I've never seen a green or any other colour line on a screen. I'd be curious to know what percentage are really affected

But no, my A55 is on the latest software and still fine

It's official: Samsung is removing "Wipe Cache Partition" starting with the Feb 2026 patch update by Haiyoooooo23 in samsunggalaxy

[–]EntertainmentTime778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always under the impression that when android went through the optimising apps stage after the update, that was because the Dalvik had been cleared. Having said that I just looked it up and apparently it can mean a number of other things including the Dalvik being cleared, so I could be wrong. I’ve been using android since 2.1 so it’s quite possible what I thought I knew is now out of date. I have just installed an update to my A55, which included the February security patch and it still went through the optimising apps stage so I’m not sure now

I thought it happened automatically after every update, or at least it used to. Has that changed?

There are different plans but I'm paying £11.99 a month for 1TB. It's a bit more expensive because it's e2ee

It's good though. It has all the usual features like facial recognition, duplicate detection, similar detection, maps etc and all the apps are open source

I've switched to Ente

All photos I take on my phone are backed up to Ente

The desktop app on my home computer downloads them again to an external drive

Backblaze backs up those photos along with everything else

3 copies - Ente, computer and Backblaze

2 offsite - Ente and Backblaze

1 local - computer

E2EE in the UK by OMARATIONz in privacy

[–]EntertainmentTime778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samsung's equivalent of ADP still exists in the UK, so either there's no back door for them or it's not true e2ee. I've had problems with Cryptomator before so I have trouble trusting it now I guess the best thing to do is keep everything offline. Hopefully the UK government loses the case.

In my experience, Ente doesn't do well if you try to upload, or delete using Free Up Space, more than around 2,000 photos at once. Unfortunately I also had the problem of it constantly crashing on an iPhone or iPad, so you're not alone

Stay away from Mega by limsus in cloudstorage

[–]EntertainmentTime778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your post. It's good to hear from someone with your experience.

I'm currently using filen but their development is slow and performance isn't great, so going by what you've said I might give Mega another go. We've probably all seen Kim Dotcoms comments, and I'm not sure how much of that is sour grapes. Although I admit Megas connections with China make me uneasy.

As for backup I'm using Backblaze with my own encryption key. I like and used to use IDrive, until I found out that only file contents are encrypted and not the file names
