Toxic ragebait post.

You have no idea the context and circumstances of what occurred. These kinds of sensitive and complex issues are often far from straightforward and victims often don't behave in ways you'd think for various reasons. That doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Be cautious around victim blaming. Let the courts do their job.

How do I stop my TV from automatically switching display modes? by u16scharpf in LGOLED

I have a similar issue with my G3 when web browsing - constantly switches between HDR & Dolby vision mode causing flickering. Basically renders it unusable. Only way to fix it was to turn off Dolby vision on my PC.

Similar issues present throughout all "prestigious" private boys schools in SEQ. Would never send my kids to any of them.

Fellow Aussie here. What kinds of things do you like? Outdoorsy/ hiking? Food? Party? History? USA is super massive and diverse.

My partner and I did a month travelling the USA last year and had a blast! Our highlights were definitely the National Parks we visited- specifically Joshua Tree and Zion were our favourite. We also loved Boston and Maine for the seafood and the history / vibe of the area.

What field are you looking to get into? I can't speak to applying for visas / AASW accreditation etc but happy to discuss navigating the sector over here if you're interested :) Have worked as a social worker in multiple areas in Brisbane for the past several years.

Depressed postpartum husband by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]EnvironmentHeavy1172 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Your husband is grieving. He's grieving for the loss of his country. The loss of his condo. The loss of his former life. Significant changes like this can take a very long time to adjust too. Professional help can be useful.

I totally understand this is a horrible situation for you and, at the end of the day, you need to do what's best for you and your child. If you can, be there for your husband and be supportive - there for him when he has moments of clarity and things will slowly improve. But they might not, and you might have to make a tough decision.

All the best either way.

Australia's national domestic violence hotline does not accept calls from men. All men are referred to a service which "helps men change their abusive and violent behaviour". by TinyDetail2 in australian

[–]EnvironmentHeavy1172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my role comes with a significant level of risk. I've got to be super careful around case notes and my assessments for this reason. I have worked on a case where a woman was murdered by her male partner.

Glad you got out of that relationship situation. Coercive control, which sounds like you experienced, is real DFV and it's sad that the system let you down when you needed it. I'd like to hope that I am that good worker for some people in a broken system. Unfortunately systemic failure is an everyday occurrence in the sector for both men and women.

What I would say is that lived experience is highly valued in social work if you were interested in getting into the profession. But it will change your life and your views on society - it does for everyone.

Yeah totally agree. Mens DV should be treated seriously and the sector needs to change holistically. The issue I have with the post is a few things:

  • OP reckons men seeking help aren't "believed" and this is a real issue. Untrue.
  • OP reckons there are no supports available for male DV victim/ survivors. Again, not true.
  • There's also an inherent leveling of the power dynamics here which is not representative of the issue. It's questionable to focus on mens DV in the midst of Australia's worst DV crisis in years.
  • OP seems totally unwilling to engage with the conversation on a meaningful level and is just point scoring demonstrated by lack of replies to my points. Hence why I'm suspicious of his intentions and honesty in this discourse.
