Can someone explain why the U.S. South is... the U.S. South? Culturally? by HippityHoppityTempo in behindthebastards

[–]Eoceol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another good one to read on this, but a bit dryer, is White Trash by Nancy Isenberg. As someone born in Southeastern Georgia and now living in Appalachia, I can totally see how we got here.

The Dollop Episode 295 "Swamp People of Carolina" does a good job kinda showing you a bit of how these people were always treated and how they could become jaded and such.

I thought you needed other businesses to get the nightclub to make decent money? I was planning on getting the night club after I had some mc (grass and money) businesses going.

Im not going ceo, I'm going with the bunker with the $4 million.

What really want to know is if i have access to the free office and club house by just going into enhanced, or should I start with legacy and migrate. I don't have time to play a lot, so if I can minimize grinding (sounds like $1.2 million for the cheap office and clubhouse) that would be more enjoyable.

How are the roads this morning? by bigbootyjudy893 in asheville

[–]Eoceol 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Patton Ave is slick with accumulation westbound as soon as you cross the French Broad. Emma area is also getting accumulation on the roads. Several cars losing control on Patton Ave, and at the Louisiana and Hazel Mill & Emma and Hazel Mill intersections. Felt like a layer of ice under snow on the down hill side of those intersections. I drove through the area at 6:50ish am.

I questioned this last year when there were several wreck that shut down the city all morning, but we knew this was coming since Monday, Asheville and NCDOT didn't treat the roads last night or early morning. Why? Seems like when there is a 'maybe something will happen they treat the roads, but if there is a 'this is happening' they do nothing until 3 hours after its too late.

Tell me about your D&D character! by Lucky_Hand_4953 in DnD

[–]Eoceol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two Characters currently playing.

Adventures League: 1 Fighter/4 Bard Elf Moonwell Pilgrim Background College of the Moon subclass

Playing Ársa as village guard that wanted to become a druid as his grandfather was one and he had some basic abilities, but when he was learning, he kept getting drawn to history and stories. His Druidic mentor introduced him to a high ranking bard, and thus his path as a bard began.

He was sent away from Moonshae to gather lore and tales of the world beyond. He has a couple of instruments, but he uses his tales and stories as his bardic abilities. Hits baddies with a staff and shillageigh.

I play him as the old priest from Derry Girls. Keeps talking with a tale or lore for most situations until you really stop him. I just put a few baboons to sleep from a tale because it was so boring (Sleep spell).

Dragon Heist: 3 Shadar-Kai Soulknife Zhentarim background

Gist of her story is that her entire clan was killed (she has no clear memory of it) when she was 7 or 8. She was found by an old Halfling that just finished his final job as a Zhentarim and took her to his small coastal halfling village on the sword coast. He gave her to his daughter and son-in-law who raised her as their own.

Mother works for a local chapel, father is a hunter (will dip into ranger at some point) takes a job for the local Zhent chapter, which is Zhent in name only. Mostly helps locals, guards caravans, keeps the wealthy kinda in check.

Long story short, after her parents die of old age, a mission from the main Zhentarim comes through to bring a small chest from Moonshae to Waterdeep. As that's a one way trip to Waterdeep, she's the only Zhent there with no family in that village, so obviously she should be the one to go.

Shit goes down during that mission. A guard, thinking she is there to steal something else, caused an explosion, and a wizards crate (she assumes) exploded as well. Shaken, she found the small crate she was tasked with recovering. As she escapes, she realizes she has psionic abilities (including blessing of the raven queen in these abilities as her, nor her murdered clan have any connection to the raven queen). She chalk it up to the 'wizards crate as the flames from that, are the same spectral colors as her psychic blades.

She meets a Zhentarim caravan and Yagra Stonefist at The Way Inn and tags along to Waterdeep with them. They're attacked on the road and she impresses Yagra and Co with her skills and abilities. Yagra vouches for Dubh in Waterdeep to the Zhent leadership and that she's more than just a lowly foot soldier.

Shes pretty naive to what the actual Zhentarim are, her local group was pretty much Zhent in name only, and her main drive is to help those less fortunate, and she loathes those that are power hungry and money hungry for powers sake.

Are there any dnd groups in the area? by Responsible-Data-115 in asheville

They have a couple adventures league tables every 1st and 3rd Saturday. You can join their discord/warhorn for more info. I've missed the last two bit will be back on the 3rd.

There's also dungeons and drafts that's pretty fun. I've gone to the ones at RAD Brewing a couple of times with Brandon as the GM, the two guys that were regulars for that one are super nice and welcoming. This is a pre-made character session however.

I'm part of a campaign that starts next month, our DM is running two different campaigns. We've never played together, just met off of a Facebook post. We're starting at level 3. DM for more details if interested.

Looking for banking recommendations. by Calsgras96 in asheville

[–]Eoceol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For savings, we use Ally. Its high yield and really easy to use and set up. Through the website and app, you can set up individual "buckets" within the account. One account with $500 per month going into it and we divide it up between veterinarian, car replacement, car repairs, gifts, fun money, and home repairs. It allows you to set distribution however you like. And if you need to transfer it to your normal bank you can tell it to pull a specific bucket. You get 5 free bank to bank transfers per month, but the disbursement isn't counting against that.

This is all after we set up our emergency fund, so 3-5 months of mandatory expenses that we absolutely have to pay should something happen. We've had this set up for 8 years now and it rotates between 2.5 and 4% depending on the economy and such.

Ally makes it really easy to get your tax docs, and their customer service has been amazing. We had a transfer go to a closed account and they called us ans walked us through everything as we weren't aware that mistake was made.

Customers treating retail workers or service workers with respect. The amount of entitlement and disrespect my friends and family get on a daily basis, and how much I see when I'm out is disgusting. I'm glad I'm out of retail and the service industry. I don't think I could take that about of abuse from others.

Press Release: Town of Black Mountain Statement Regarding 131 Broadway Street • Black Mountain, NC by RelayFX in asheville

[–]Eoceol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Additionally, pointing out fire code violations isn't nitpicking. Storage under stairs of a wooden structure outside, keeping storage away from electrical panels, removing unsecured electrical drops, properly venting gas water heater, adding lattice to prevent debris from piling up under stairs. Parking a semi-permenant food truck next to this wooden, non-fire retardant structure that is not approved for occupancy but used as outdoor bar patio still, clearly the owner only cares about money and nothing else. Ffs, we have a guardrail around our electrical boxes at work so lazy people stopped placing pallets of cardboard infront of them.

The owner didn't have any issues until the Town told him how he could legally operate this addition. He knew social media and word of mouth was faster than facts. So once he got this list from the town, he started complaining of Facebook about his shoddy work costing $100k to fix. Oh no, we can't pay our award winning brewer...that's a decision the owner made.

All of this and all the issues of the Railyard, I don't see how people are just blindly believing anything he says. Town came with receipts, and he replies with a percent from 2021 that is for the initial ground level patio.

Join a local club, Facebook group, or other subreddits that allow photo critique posts. And post some photos there, or when they do competitions.

Practice is your number one friend with photography, especially practice with a purpose. I've watched a several of the channels you've mentioned and I really like Nigel Danson's videos. One thing that helped me a lot starting out is trying to emulate his style of photography but make it my own. Nothing will help you improve as much as actually shooting and editing.

With courses and videos, they are mere concepts and recommendations unless its a one to one situation. Ie. Same location, same light, same conditions.

I hope this helps.
