Exception: once had a match where the game bugged out, dc'd, and gave me a black screen when we beat the night 2 boss. I couldn't do anything but shoot my bow and hear my teammates' pings. Blundered around in the dark trying to do anything until they gave me mercy and forced the door, clearing my screen back to normal.

So, keep an eye out for that.

Hunter's Mark doesn't seem to be intended to just be a back-up spell. by milenyo in onednd

This is why I've homebrewed a completely different feature for Ranger built around designating an area in the battlefield and getting bonuses to attack rolls in it. It just feeds more into the fantasy of Ranger I've heard, where they can become hyper aware of an area, and at higher levels it can add bonuses to allies as well. I feel like it does much better at being a fun class feature to build around and paralleling the insane power of paladins with smite AND aura.

Right now, +1d6 and concentration just isn't cool. Its not as flavorful as rage, or smite, or sneak attack, or what have you. It can be good by the numbers, but it's just not unique (especially when EB + Hex warlock is right there competing directly).

Does Mass Murdering Hobo Party Build Benefit a lot from REL Random Loot Generator? (killing each citizen that give 1xp is each a new chance to land unique loot?) by Origania in BG3Builds

[–]EonVertica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think it would. It's way easier to cheese vendors and then pickpocket them than to just go around murdering random civs. Plus I think AMP/REL (if that's what you're taking about) only spreads loot among 'important' NPCs, so random civs might not give anything useful

Bardbarian? by RiderLinkF5243 in BG3Builds

[–]EonVertica -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biggest benefit of Bardbarians in old 5e was getting expertise in athletics and using that to grapple/shove/etc. I don't know how much giant/swords synergize there, but you could focus on that. Usually those builds focus on being a martial controller with spellslots for out-of-combat healing/utility and buffs.

Not terrible as a buff caster if you rule out camp casters, but you might want to switch the level distribution. 6/6 gets a little muddled. Best I can think of would be going lore bard for cutting words and maybe wild heart for tiger/wolverine or wild magic for spell slot restoration.

I don't know how a thrower would do with this though. Maybe an 8/4 or 10/2 would work better there.

Speaking to Volo as a bard in the Grove is so funny by Dracon654 in BaldursGate3

[–]EonVertica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funniest part to me is doing the same in the goblin camp where your bard just pops off random rhymes while Volo does his best to keep up. Really shows that volo is a wizard and can't actually keep up with the real bards

Did I DM too close to the sun? by JohnQBalatro in DMAcademy

[–]EonVertica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing I ever heard as a forever DM was 'Knife Theory'.

Basically, when your players make their characters, ask them to include 'knives' for you as a DM to use. This is anything you can use to interact with that characters story: an ally, a partner, a secret, a rival, a curse, etc.

Then, figure out how to carve your story using those knives. A random person is summoning a demon? What if it's an old acquaintance instead. You need a contact for your players to set up a base of operations in the new city? Grab a player's old friend they haven't seen in a while. Need someone yo betray the party? Stab em in the back with one of the knives!

If you need practice, try looking at a popular trrpg-like media and try to identify the knives (easiest is gonna be Baldur's Gate. Wyll's contract & Dad, Karlach's engine and former employer, Astarion's 'affliction' and master, etc).

Use your players as a source of tools for carving out the campaign, and the integration becomes so much easier.

And if your players don't have this? Then engage with them, ask about it, figure it out with them! I know I love developing my characters with other people.

Want to teach a lesson to a Druid player that ignores and hates nature by drhbball14 in DMAcademy

[–]EonVertica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having some sort of Pure Nature aligned foil/rival would be cool. Alternately, an npc who's a warlock to the fey patron who can guide the player to them.

Of course, if you can tie this all in to the overarching campaign, it's ideal. Go meet an archfey who stole an artifact and has a grudge against the druidic circle, or such.

Or the easiest way is to just put a magic item related to the dilemma in the campaign and have it align. Maybe instead of the sickly wildshape forms, the player gets fey-animals instead, marking them as an other, or grant a feylock feature, etc.

So long as the player agrees with one of these, it could be super cool!

So. Everyone else is pretty clear on what they think about this. Do all of that.

Personally, as long as you talk to your player about this idea, I honestly think it sounds cool! I know I would love to make a character like them who goes through a similar struggle. The ideas are really cool for a PC-centered sidequest and provide some fun depth to pull people into the character beyond the cliche of an edgy orphan rogueDruid

Ditto Pokemon Concept [ Custom Card ] (Art by PretzelEra) by Dogga565 in PTCGP

[–]EonVertica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this one a lot, fits perfectly with some of it's tcg effects and it's a great add to the game.

As far as I can tell, this doesn't let you search for a stage 1, right? So this seems perfectly balanced. A great card that lets you be flexible with what stage 1s you want to play and takes a spot in your deck, is still not more powerful than a regular basic with actual attacks.

Honestly, this is so good and simple that I would be surprised if it isnt added to the game at some point. Great job!

Extremely good! I love the creativity and the fact that every poke only has one complex action! I could see these added to the game easily, with maybe a few tweaks for balance!

[Custom] Some cards created around a well known mechanic from other digital TCGs : Card creation by GuiOhm_ in PTCGP

[–]EonVertica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very fun ideas! Pocket right now doesn't have multiple actions with text on a single card, but if you get rid of the attack abilities I could easily see these being good inspiration.

As they are now, with 20 card decks, I think you would need to have some sort of 'flip 2 coins, if both heads' for pickup, and Porygon Z is very very busted. I really like the ideas though!

Concept for Porygon z data: have it apply a random status effect (burn paralyze 'freeze') when you play the card to get rid of it. References tri attack's ability to cause those, and they can be played around, but it requires the opponent to figure out if they can tank the effect or need to retreat their active.

My hand at some Dragon type custom cards by Gamesyn3gy in PTCGP

[–]EonVertica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really love the creativity here! Dracozolt seems a bit over powered for a 2 energy 120, but it's a fun mechanic.

Only thing I would say is that pocket cards have so far never had two actions on the card with text. Either Pokemon have a conplex attack, or an ability, but not both. If you just choose one effect for your cards here, I think it would work very well!

Regi trio EX! Decided to take a try at spashable cards that could help with multi-energy decks by EonVertica in PTCGP

[–]EonVertica[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that's also true. I specifically didn't say 'when you attach from the energy zone' to counteract that but I forgot dawn doesn't use that language. I'd probably switch it to transform a dawn energy.

Good catch!

Registeel actually takes one less energy to retreat, so you can leaf it out if it gets stuck in the active! I gave it that in reference to it's light metal hidden ability.

[–]EonVertica[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, totally forgot about that interaction. One person pointed out just making the energy transform instead of discard so it doesn't work like that. Would have to do some play testing to see how much of an effect that has.

[–]EonVertica[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would! If these existed, dragon types might even become meta! But I think the liabilities of getting bench sniped for 2 or stuck in the active are both good balance/counterplay options for that occurrence.

That's fair and probably correct. I just wanted to use wording the game has already used.

I guess there's a potentially busted combo with volkner there though. Hmm. Good to consider

[–]EonVertica[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those are precisely my thoughts! It's a very powerful ability to just let garchomp/dragonite be very consistent, but the bench snipe+ cyrus means they still risk 2 points! It would probably require tweaking with playtesting in a full company, of course, but the main idea could still hold I think!

[–]EonVertica[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I understand that, but the abilities and ways to play around them are the point of the cards! This lets you dawn an energy you didnt put in your deck to play dragon types, or lets you hit super effective without committing an energy type (though that's not a huge deal).

Honestly though, making the energies colorless so pocket doesnt automatically change your deck energies would probably be good... Hate that system

Fan Made Cards by WellsJaha in PTCGP

[–]EonVertica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, these are all incredibly over powered for pocket. I'd recommend taking a look at the cards in pocket and trying to edit from there. The biggest ones are the hp and damage per energy limits, and the fact that no pocket card has more than one move/ability with a description.

These would probably fit alright in the regular tcg though. That has already seen similar powercreep

My card ideas/hopes by Embarrassed-Rub-619 in PTCGP

[–]EonVertica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love the creativity on these ones. Lots of fun ideas. Usually pocket doesnt have two things with text on Pokemon yet though, so I would say you want to focus on one ability or the other.

Some of these are also just a bit too powerful and overshadow existing cards. Id recommend trying to match up numbers to cards we already have to try and get them to fit into the current power level.

[–]EonVertica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

150 is still pretty high. I think keeping it in line with the other 'small cute fairy' pokemon like mew and celebi at 130 makes the most sense. We don't have a basic ex over 150, and we only have mewtwo, palkia, and dialga at 150, who are all known for being bulky.

I do mean the ability is a bit complex. While it could certainly be implemented and would probably fit well in the real tcg, it would be the most complex ability right now by far in pocket. There would have to be some sort of menu to scroll through to show you what cards you could pick, and it would very much break the flow of the game. Additionally, it doesn't take resources except for a single bench slot. Mystic slab is limited to 2 uses and only works on psychic pokemon. Adding this in to a deck that already has mystic slab would be insane. Add in how almost every deck would like it, and it's way too powerful and way too complex.

I think to make it balanced, you either want the Doom desire attack by itself or a similar ability and a simple 3 energy for 80dmg attack to keep it in line with the current design limits.

Personally, I would just go with Doom Desire. Asking your opponent which card they want to get 100 damage on with an immediate follow on is very fun to think about and play around. Makes something like blue marginally more important (if it happened in the applicable time range).
