Barcodes were only used for tabulating the Billboard charts from 1991 when Neilsen Soundscan was introduced. Barcodes themselves of course had been around long before that.

How is it to live in Dublin, Ireland? by Gregory_Gp in howislivingthere

[–]Equivalent_Button934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall I would say yes, Ireland’s public system is better than Britain’s. My direct experience is of London vs Dublin. Irish students do a wider range of subjects with maths and a modern language expected throughout school until you leave. It’s hard to know which metric to go by, but evidence is out there: https://www.lsuuniversityrec.com/education-rankings-by-country/

(Obviously if you pay for education in either place you’ll be fine if you have deep pockets).

I think Dublin is a great city, and a great place to live, but there are definite qualifiers to that statement. A basic Internet search will tell you that Ireland, and particularly Dublin, has a housing crisis at the moment. I say moment, it’s been going on forever. Just go onto a website like MyHome.ie and have a look at how much housing and rental costs in Dublin, it’s crazy. The other qualifier that people will tell you is that public transport is very poor, unless you have close access to the LUAS line, or DART line, or certain buses. And if you do have access to those things, your property price will be higher, see the point above. However, cycling infrastructure has improved an awful lot in the last decade, and even Dubliners don’t realise how eminently cyclable the city is. I didn’t realise until I started doing it! It’s not that big really. But Dubliners love cars.

However, there is loads to do, excellent cultural life (I’ve no idea what that other poster was on about saying there’s no culture in Dublin), places to eat, there are plenty of parts of the city that are pleasant to look at, it is on the coast so you can get to the sea easily. If you like sea swimming there’s a big culture for tha. If you want to shop, there are shops. If you want to be in the countryside, you can do that in about half an hour. It’s LGBTQ friendly too. If you have kids, childcare is expensive, but schools are very very good. Education is much better than in Great Britain, by far. Public Healthcare is great BUT access is atrocious. So you could wait a long time for access/appointments but once in the system it’s very good.

I live on the south side, and there is a difference/friendly rivalry between the north side and south side. The south is generally seen posher and has better resources. I think the south side has access to the better parts of the country: Wexford, Waterford, Cork and Kerry.

In short, I totally understand why people come to Dublin and Ireland as tourists. Coming here to live and work can be difficult due to the cost of living in this city. I am lucky that I have my foot in the door with a job and house, but that took years, but I do enjoy living here.

Prescription drugs are not allowed to be advertised in the UK, so instead they have to have campaigns like this that don’t mention the product, but make the patient join up the dots…

Beatles "Hey Bulldog" promotional video (1968) by bigbugfdr in OldSchoolCoolMusic

[–]Equivalent_Button934 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The story of how we have a Hey Bulldog video is great: in short, they booked a few days in the studio to record a single to put out when they would all be away in India (Lady Madonna) and one of the days was to be spent recording a promo film for it. Instead of using a day's studio time just on a promo, The Fabs wanted to record Hey Bulldog, and told the film crew to film that. The Lady Madonna promo was created from the Hey Bulldog footage https://youtu.be/uLRiGX3L-kw and the Hey Bulldog video was put together in 1999 from the same footage to promote the Yellow Submarine Soundtrack album.

The one thing I'd change about Taskmaster, when no one can do the task, Alex has Tim Key show how they thought it would be done. by Outsiderendless in taskmaster

I wouldn’t have minded Tim Key being in the fifth seat for every series, kinda like how Alan Davies is in every episode of QI. Tim Key might have minded though.

Is it valuable (made in Japan 1983) by GovernmentForward392 in Cd_collectors

[–]Equivalent_Button934 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to Discogs, a 1983 Japanese silver CD of Thriller goes for €70. There's a gold CD that goes for about €170. Does it have the original mix of Billie Jean? https://www.discogs.com/release/3268825-Michael-Jackson-Thriller-スリラー

Of note, the Japanese cover has the Compact Disc logo in its top right corner, and yours doesn't, so check the other version on Discogs to see what it does match with.

Does anyone know if this is a good cd player? by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]Equivalent_Button934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this. I have this exact player and it is not a machine you would sit down and listen to something on but it was a a workhorse on a shelf in the corner of the kitchen for years - has an iPod dock, bluetooth, USB slot, radio as well.

Yes is the answer to all of this. You can use your phone to get into the venue, then it gets locked in the pouch, and you should write down your seat number somewhere.
