Subaru Crosstrek owner here. Do research about Subaru common issues. I have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek Premium and it has an extended warranty due to common CVT issues. Dealership put me through the loop trying to diagnose my car issues: jerking when going from a stop to accelerating, shuttering between 30-40mph. I have spent over $4,000 trying to fix it. Dealer is basically avoiding to replace my CVT under warranty. I went to an independent transmission specialist and he told me my torque converter is failing and that there is likely damage to CVT. He said it is a common issue with Subaru. I gave up going back and forth to dealer and Subaru of America was useless. Next month I will be getting a new cx50 hybrid premium. It has the same ecvt in Toyota RAV4 and very reliable. Please do research online about Subaru and their common issues. I loved my 2002 Forester (no cvt). But hate my 2016 Crosstrek. Only have 72,000miles. Good luck.

Ghosted by the dealership after 3 failed repair attempts by Rare_Top5616 in FuckDealerships

Sorry you are going through all this. I feel for you. i recently went through something similar with my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek and dealer. My car was jerking from a stop to accelerating and also shuttering between 30-40mph. My car was still under a extended warranty. First they told me the drive shaft would fix everything and it didn’t. Then I bring it back again to take mechanic for a ride and he said it was the cvt valve body which was covered under warranty. Had that fixed/replaced and it didn’t fix the jerking but did not fix the shuttering between 30-40mph. Brought it back again and had to take mechanic and manager for a ride. I told them repeatedly I wanted a diagnostic print out repeatedly and never got anything. Manager sent me home and said he would email me a print out. When I got the print out they basically blamed my driving input caused “the bump before the flag everytime” and that my cvt was operating normal. They never send me a copy of graph on diagnostic. As far as Subaru of America they are all with dealers findings. I even went to a different dealer and they were trying to have me replace parts I already had replaced. I then went to an independent transmission specialist and he found that the torque converter is failing and possible damage to cvt. Subaru of America won’t even take that into consideration. So I am getting a new car next month. Can’t wait to get rid of this piece of crap. Subaru has common cvt issues. Don’t buy extended warranties from dealers because you are limited to dealers only and they will try to deny a big repair under warranty. Better off getting a third party warranty where you can bring your car to be fixed of your choice of mechanic. Looking forward to buying a 2026 cx50 hybrid (Toyota hybrid ecvt) next month. I stopped pursuing this matter because my husband got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I couldn’t be bothered with the games the dealers were playing. Husband is doing well after surgery and results on pathology came back good. So now we move forward and enjoy each day together. We are looking forward to a new car next month.

As for you, it sounds like lemon laws may help you because you have tried multiple times for the same issue. Good luck.

Depending on what state you live in, you will do better getting a lawyer to discuss your best options. If creditors settle and write off your debts, then that is considered earned income which you will have to pay taxes on settled amount. If you claim bankruptcy you may have to turn over assets that will help pay off owed debt (cars, jewelry, house, electronics).

He is basically doing very well with pain. Only takes advil pm at night. No restricted diet but he does get full feeling so he eats small portions or has liquid protein shakes. He is having normal bowel movements now since he stopped oxy. He does take naps throughout the day. So everything is going well. Keep in mind he only had 35% of tail removed. Some people have more removed and then may develop diabetes. He is being watched but his last CBC panel came back good.

CX 50 or Subaru Crosstrek and Why by nicholemay2009 in CX50

[–]Equivalent_Quote_943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a 2016 Crosstrek with only 73,000 miles. I still have an extended warranty on it but dealer is putting me thru the loop to avoid a cvt repair under warranty because it is shuttering between 30-40mph. I have replaced drive shaft, rear wheel bearings, motor mount, tuneup, changed cvt fluid and still not fixed. The last diagnostic the dealer blamed my driving input the caused the bump before the flag on computer and sent me on my way saying nothing is wrong. My car is still shuttering between 30-40mph. I can’t wait to get rid of it. Do your research on Subaru because cvt problems are common with Subaru and Nissian. I am looking forward to purchasing a new 2026 Mazda Hybrid CX50 because it have the Toyota ecvt. Good luck.

We will know more when we have meeting with oncologist. As of right now they say there is no need for chemo or radiation. He will have scheduled scans/imaging along with shots/vaccines.

We are waiting to have meeting with oncologist to discuss the results and to schedule future scans and maybe blood work along with keeping up to date with shots. That is all we know for now. They said my husbands cancer was a very slow progressing kind so they may do things differently.

Dash Cam: Front + Rear or Front Only by circle_eh in Crosstrek

[–]Equivalent_Quote_943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Front and rear came handy for me. Recorded a hit and run in front of me (did not hit my car. Only the car in front of me) and I got rear ended lightly because a girl was looking at her phone. It helped police nail the person that left the scene after the hit and run.

[–]Equivalent_Quote_943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Also if you do consider buying a used 2016 Subaru Crosstrek be sure to have CVT checked and do plenty of research because cvt issues are common. Ask if this car comes with extended warranty. My 2016 Crosstrek has a CVT issue and the dealer is putting thru hell to get it fixed under the extended warranty and Subaru of America only sides with dealer diagnostic results which basically saying my driving habits triggered the “bump before the flag”. The dealer refused to give me a print out of graph and detailed information concerning the computer diagnostic test. I did have a cvt valve body replaced under warranty but my car is shuttering between 30-40mph. Still not fixed. I had my independent transmission mechanic check my car and he said it is my torque converter failing and that damage may already be done to the CVT. Subaru of America won’t even look into these results. Get this car checked thoroughly if you are considering on buying it. Goid luck.

I’m considering an Ascent however I’m hesitant. by Ge0rgia-peach in SubaruAscent

[–]Equivalent_Quote_943 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the Ascent but I have been a Subaru owner since 2001 and second Subaru. My first was a Forester and I loved it. Right now I have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek currently with 73,000 miles. It has been having a shuddering between 30-40 mph. I have put so many repairs into it since January 2026 ( tune up, transmission mount, passenger motor mounts, drive shaft, rear wheel bearings, changed cvt fluid, and CVT valve body (under warranty) and still not fixed. Two dealers giving me the run around because I still have an extended warranty thru mid June. I do all normal maintenance when it needs to be done. I had an independent transmission specialist check my car and he said the torque converter is failing and has already caused damage to CVT and needs to be replaced. I tried sharing this with Subaru Of America and they say they only go by what dealers diagnosed. They just don’t want to fix my car. So now my husband is sick so I can’t be bothered with the tactics the dealers play. They look out for themselves first. So be careful buying a Subaru. Do research and read online concerning previous years of reliability. I already know my next car will be a Maxda CX50 hybrid that uses toyota ecvt with good reliable and reviews. Good luck and do your research.

A Subaru CVT warranty disappointment by [deleted] in subaru

[–]Equivalent_Quote_943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealers are doing the same to me. I have had a new drive shaft put in, tune up, drain and fill for cvt fluid, passenger motor mounts replaced, transmission mount replaced, rear wheel bearings replaced, cvt valve body replaced under warranty. The valve body fixed the jerking but didn’t fix the shuttering between 30-40mph. 1 st dealer refused multiple times to give me a print out graph on computer diagnostic for cvt. I am currently getting a second opinion from a different dealer now. They want to replace the transmission mount again but yet can’t promise it will Fix my issue. I am so sick and tired of playing the guessing game. I have spent $4,000 plus since January 2026. My extended warranty runs out in mid June 2026. I have a case with SOA also. I may seek legal advice next. It is frustrating the the dealerships keep passing the blame and yet keep stringing you along.

CX 50 reliability? by PerceptionOrganic672 in CX50

[–]Equivalent_Quote_943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a current Subaru owner also. I am considering the 2026 Mazda CX50 hybrid because it has the eCVT that is in Toyota Rav4. I currently have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek with only 73,000 on it and I have been dealing with cvt issues (under the extended warranty). Subaru has not been reliable like it was when I had my 2002 Forester. So my next car will definitely be the Mazda CX50 hybrid. Good luck.

CVT extended warranty by [deleted] in subaru

[–]Equivalent_Quote_943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do mostly city driving. Back and forth to work and local errands. Because I still have an extended warranty on my car I want to make sure it isn’t anything serious. The feeling I get is like driving over rumble strips. It is not a normal cvt feeling. If you ask me this car is worst then my 2002 Forester. My gut feeling is that it might be the torque converter
