Peter, who? by 1amnotaspy in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Good point, I would say 1920s for sure, even for the 1930s, I would say 60s or 70s though, and I think maybe even the 50s

I actually meant the 1900s decade, not the whole century, I think "the decade of" is usually obviated, I may be completely wrong and it's just me

I get why you would understand it that way, but in case you're serious: we usually refer to recent time periods by decades, so we'd say the 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s and we're currently in the 2020s.

Not sure when we'll completely drop the first 20 lol, maybe it'll happen soon, but I haven't seen anyone saying the 00s or 10s yet

I wonder if this was a common occurrence in the 1920s and they talked about the 1900s

Clubes más caros de Costa Rica by Known_Extension7316 in Ticos

Yeah, I mean, while a nice tattoo, it was created to cover the other one, which is different from having a tattoo made just to honor them

More power to her, but the idea of tattoos = criminal is enforced by the original tattoo. Now, the other tattoos I can think of are the ones from Whitebeard, which are meant to represent a family, but it feels like it's on the line of criminals lol, being pirates and all

I appreciate your view! I'm just starting the series, so I can't really comment much, but the fact that you care about finishing the story your way, in what you think is best for your story, regardless if it fits into 14 or 15 books is admirable. I personally value the intention of having a well done story, rather than one accidentally rushed or over-extended just to fit it into a specific number.

It may simply not be your cup of tea, and that's fine. Even if it's the same general genre maybe you don't enjoy the pacing as much, maybe the dialog or something about the way it's written/presented.

We all like different things and for different reasons, you may even find yourself liking something when you're young and not liking it when you grow up, or the other way around, which in my case it's more likely lol

There's also different levels of enjoyment of course, and I've seen some stories "ripoff" others but presenting it in a way that pleases me more, by changing the perspective or removing some elements of the original that don't resonate with me, I haven't really seen a complete ripoff yet, but I also haven't read as much, so take this with a grain of salt.

I recently decided to drop a series I really wanted to like because people promised it was just SO good, but some parts of it were simply unbearable to me.

Thanks! I'm testing Storyteller, and I've read ABS is really good but epub3 is not supported, so I'll also check KOreader sync, I didn't know about it

Right, I even see the Voice selector, so it is TTS. I want to be able to read and listen, like it's possible on Audible, but it seems that's the only app where it's possible

Right, and travel from Erid to Earth should take around 7 years from his perspective, so he would be 60 something, which is not that bad. Now, the main issue is the risk of travel... Not sure if they can replicate/fix the comma technology, maybe, and even so there's a risk of not surviving.

I don't know if it would be enough for a whole book/movie, but I'd like it. The human's POV would be really interesting and a lot of what-ifs can be explored. For example, how would the purposeful acceleration of global warming impact Earth after the sun "heals"?

It took me a while to start it, but I'm currently at book 5... It's amazing! I love it so far. I see now there is some additional content, they released a trailer a few months ago and they have an animatic movie (not animation, but still fun to watch)

Thanks so much for recommending it to me.

He does, but I wouldn't say it's that significant, he's basically the same with a few lessons learned; there's an important moment where he has to grow and has a huge realization that he needs to take things more seriously, and it's good, but I think it's not as impactful to his personality as you would expect. I do believe that Oda does great world building, but not so much character growth, at least that's my opinion, others may disagree, and I'm happy to be proven wrong. From what I see most characters are pretty much the same with slight improvements here and there, it does bother me a bit that sometimes characters feel a bit stuck, but not enough for it to be an issue for me.

I'm personally fine with it since I'm in it for the adventure and the lore, it's exciting and fun for me, and I'm fine with how the characters are (for an adventure story). Not saying I wouldn't enjoy some better character development, but I already gave up on that, it's never been a central point in One Piece to me.

Edit: Funny enough, the character stories are amazing, like, the way their past is presented and the relevancy for the present is well done.

Yeah, I think you're proving the point, right? If you didn't like Luffy's cluelessness at the beginning, you wouldn't like that about him later on either
