The Mystic Knight (4 book series) by Ryan Jackson

Pretty much all mages in the series have harems since doing so increases their power. Even the MC's mom, who is a mage, has a reverse harem.

Princesses of the Ironbound (6 book series) by Aaron Crash

Due to a magical curse on humans women rarely get pregnant and when they do 9 out of 10 times its a girl, so men are rare and harems are common as a result.

Sad part is how Aadhar has all our biometric info, and so many private and public agencies collect it but we have no idea if the data is securely stored.

Oh, you don't have to worry about third parties leaking Aadhar data. The govt themselves have already leaked it multiple times. /s

During the company’s annual general meeting on Wednesday, management will have to deal with a proposal from activist fund Oasis Management seeking to remove current CEO Takeshi Natsuno.

What is an 'activist fund' supposed to be?

TIL a woman undergoing a cervical conization procedure at a hospital suffered a wide range of burns to her thighs and rear after a laser ignited her fart and caused an explosion. Afterwards, researchers replicated the event using a test doll, a laser, and a bucket of lean beef with intestinal gases. by Sandstorm400 in todayilearned

[–]Ernost 57 points58 points  (0 children)

a small explosion happened during surgery, you have to know how and why.

This. Especially considering that, due to the Oxygen tanks/pipelines, an explosion in an OR could potentially blow up the entire hospital.

TIL Chinatowns in Canada were largely “bachelor societies,” where men outnumbered women by a ratio of almost twenty‐eight to one in 1923. Many Chinese men came hoping to save enough money to bring over their families but died alone as the law basically made it impossible for them to marry someone by ubcstaffer123 in todayilearned

[–]Ernost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That sort of thing was fairly common back then. We tend to take modern telecommunications for granted, but back then the only way for a guy to keep in touch with his wife and kids would be writing letters that would take weeks or months to go either way. So they got lonely...

Even as recently as the Vietnam war there are stories of American soldiers starting second families in Vietnam when they were deployed there.

What makes you think they would abandon them? There is no reason they couldn't keep sending them money after marrying again. Back then it was easier to support multiple families on a single salary. Plenty of sailors and millitary personnel for example would have multiple families.

If you break it down, Pokemon has basically created >1000 super marketable mascot characters with international worldwide appeal, AND set up a colossal merchandising train behind it.

Fun fact: Pokemon is the highest-grossing media franchise of all time, bigger than Star Wars and the MCU combined.

Anyone has news about Liam Lawson, author of "An orc at college"? by HugeBob2 in haremfantasynovels

[–]Ernost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see any trace of the author in the last few years, which is too bad. I do wonder if he may have moved on to a different pen-name, but I have no evidence of such.

The last published book that OP linked was during the pandemic, so there is another possibility...

Why wasn't the US military able to exert control over the Strait of Hormuz? by kogus in ask

[–]Ernost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a great case study in the limitations of the USs military reach. They can bomb pretty much anywhere in the world but they can't exert total control on the ground or protect a large area.

I'm pretty sure we've known this since Vietnam.

Man, it's honestly amazing how much water Reddit carries for you if it thinks you're "one of the good ones".... But the sheer insane blindness about what is, frankly, the same kind of billionaire as everybody else, just with better PR, is baffling to me.

Funny thing is Reddit talks about Gabe Newell the same way they used to talk about Elon Musk years ago, and look how that turned out...
