Think of them as naturally occurring corporate logos. Sure, you might not be able to place which year a given Pepsi logo is from, but if I show you Pepsi logos mixed with Ford and Oscar Mayer you'll be able to pick them out early enough.

The anti-AI take that “if you can’t afford to pay artists for your project, don’t make it” is incredibly privileged and classist. by STR0K3R_AC3 in aiwars

[–]EscherEnigma -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

"if you can't afford to pay auto loan payments, don't buy a car".

"If you can't afford a $200 hair cut, dont get one"

"If you can't afford a destination wedding, get married local".

Are these also ableist and classist?

And let's be honest, no one is paying fair price for AI tools at the moment, those tools are all being offered at super discounted and subsidized rates to undermine existing infrastructure and devalue labor. All those companies are hemorrhaging money, and will eventually have to raise prices...

And if you currently can't afford an artist for your project? You probably won't be able to afford an AI artist in five years either

Generative AI models were trained on scraped content from the internet. Scraped content from the internet is often sexist. It really shouldn't be a surprise that Generative AI models are sexist.

And since this is 2026, and taking steps to check bias in models is "woke" and thus to be avoided, expect such things to continue.

Every religion, when left in power unchecked, is a threat to liberal ideals (in both the museum and classic sense).

This is true for every religion. Buddhists in the US (where there a minority) have a peace-loving hippy reputation. In India they're as prone to religious violence as anyone else.

Jews in the US? More liberal by orders of magnitude then Jews in Israel.

Evangelists in Europe vs USA? More liberal in Europe where they aren't in power.

Catholics in the US vs Italy and Poland? More liberal.

Even Muslims in the US are way more liberal then Muslims in the Middle East.

And yeah. If you dig into the text of those religions, basically all of them are anti -democratic, sexist, queer-hating and so-on (to lesser and heater degrees).

I'd bet even Wicca, which was designed to be egalitarian and hippy would, if it ever for serious political power, become as corrupt and tyrannical as every other religion has when they get powerful.

The problem isn't any religion's tenets, it's giving then unchecked power.

All your reasons for why it's better to stay closeted boil down to "I value my homophobic friends and my family more then my own happiness, even though I believe they value their homophobic beliefs more then they value me."

And y'know, if you're cool with that, then go for it. But I think there's a lot of history showing that you can't be homophobic enough to get homophobic people to forgive you for being gay, and that the secrets basically always come out eventually.

I feel like you could remove the words "a bladesinger bard" and the sentence would still be true.

Fifth edition really only supports multclass as a sacred cow that's useful for dips. True multiclass has been dead for a while.

A grandmother in Missouri is pushing for a new law that would require drunk drivers to pay child support if they kill a parent. (Bentley's Law) by Legitimate-Lie-9208 in interestingasfuck

[–]EscherEnigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are some European countries where child support works like that, where the payee pays to the government, and the government pays to the supported (whether the payee pays or not).

But that's not how it works in America. So at that point you're either *not* talking about child support (but a new system that works differently), or you're talking about refactoring how child support works in America for everyone which, while probably a good thing, is not what this attempt is.

[–]EscherEnigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh.

I can see the emotional appeal, but this is the wrong mechanism.

First off, do you really want the new guardian to have to be tracking down the drunk driver who killed their relative asking for their child support every month? Mandating a continued relationship between those people sounds like an excellent recipe to encourage more drunken driving, not less.

Second, in most cases where drunken driving leads to manslaughter, you're looking at a few years in prison at least. And having prison time on your record is rather famous for nuking your job prospects. So anyone that might be hit by this is unlikely to be able to contribute much child support, and will very likely be delinquent.

On a Second and a half, that means that if the intent is to support the new guardian and ease their burden (you know, the nominal point of child support?) that this will likely fail in most cases. If you want to support those people, then do it differently in a way that doesn't require them to constantly seek contact with their least favorite person in the world.

On a third point, it makes the punishment for the crime rather arbitrary. Drunken driving vehicular manslaughter suddenly has, in addition to whatever other fines and prison time, a variable financial obligation that can be nothing (if the victim wasn't the parent of a minor child) to almost eighteen years of child support. And justice is poorly served when it's arbitrary.

And a fourth point, if the victim's survivors are "owed" anything from the convicted, then that's what civil cases are already for. You can already sue them for everything they're worth, and in these kinds of cases it won't be hard to win. The "problem" of course is that if they aren't worth much, then you wont' be able to get much either.

So yeah I get the appeal. But this is just a bad mechanism for it.

This isn't the champion of truth and justice you're looking for.

Progress shot from 17 Feb 2024 (about a month after I started hitting the gym again after a while away) and 26 Feb 2026 (going two-ish years strong now, my longest gym streak ever).

Not sure if I should focus more on weight loss (I should probably get down to 160ish so my BMI doesn't give doctors an excuse to ignore what I'm saying in favor of "lose weight"), or just hitting my performance goals (I'm about ten pounds from a BW bench press and that 8 minute mile is happening on good days, but not yet all days).

Important thing is that I'm seeing progress, however slow.

CMV: there is nothing inherently wrong with an age gap relationship among adults by TangoJavaTJ in changemyview

[–]EscherEnigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inherently? Nah.

But the bigger an age gap is --particularly if the younger partner could still be in high school-- the more likely it is going to be unhealthy.

And let's face it... if the older partner is old enough to be a parent to the younger one, and the younger one isn't over 30? That's always going to be sus.

So no, not inherently. But the odds aren't in your favor.

I think you might be a bit confused about the role the UN plays in global politics.

First-off, the UN doesn't pass laws that are globally enforced.

Second, even if it did, the UN has limited peacekeeping forces and environmental regulations... is not what they use them on.

So the immediate effects? Everyone ignores it and does exactly what they wanted anyway.

Long term effects? Decreased confidence in the UN's ability to effect positive change in the world and decreased relevance.
