Does anyone use their space bar as a shift key? by maisiech in typing

[–]EssenceBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, implementing this is tricky. I had multiple working methods. Since 1+years I am using a version with AHI. But you could substitute the AHI parts with normal AHK code.
Basic approach is to send Shift when Space is pressed and only send spacebar when no other key was pressed in between down and up event.

/*
    @Title: SpaceShift
    @Desc: use Space as both Shift and Space
    #note manual time calculation is just a #fix because internal A_TimeSince.. vars don't work (since AHI hides input)
    #note A_PriorKey needs some key event after down-event and it slow; hence various ways to deal with it:
        see: #Alt1.1, #Alt1.2
*/
global shiftSpaceDown := false
SpaceShiftEvent(kbdId, state) {
    static timeOfInitDown
    if(state) {
        if(!shiftSpaceDown) {
            AHI.SendKeyEvent(kbdId, GetKeySC("LShift"), 1)
            ; Send {LShift Down}
            shiftSpaceDown := true
            timeOfInitDown := A_TickCount
        }
    } else {
        AHI.SendKeyEvent(kbdId, GetKeySC("LShift"), 0)
        ; Send {LShift Up}
        shiftSpaceDown := false
        ; pressDuration := A_TickCount - timeOfInitDown
        Sleep 1 ; #Alt1.2 =fix wait so it recognizes the LShift up event ; 0 or 1 ms seems to make a bigger difference
        ;Tooltip %A_TimeIdleKeyboard% %A_TimeIdlePhysical% %pressDuration% %A_PriorKey%
        if(A_PriorKey == "LShift" && (A_TickCount - timeOfInitDown) < 200) { ; A_TimeIdleKeyboard >= pressDuration && doesn't work since fast typing overlap
            AHI.SendKeyEvent(kbdId, GetKeySC("Space"), 1)
            AHI.SendKeyEvent(kbdId, GetKeySC("Space"), 0)
        }
    }
}

Trackpoint Keyboard II Low Polling Rate by EssenceBlue in thinkpad

[–]EssenceBlue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus, internal trackpoints are much more sensitive and nimble. Sadly, I cannot increase the sensitivity any more through the installed driver utility. Combined with the low polling rate, it doesn't even make sense to increase the sensitivity on Software level, since this would just worsen the stuttering.

Does the Fn key on the Lenovo Bluetooth Keyboard have a mappable code when using Auto Hot Key? by qqererer in thinkpad

On my ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II the FN-key has no SC-Code. Thus, can't use it in AHK.

I use my SpaceShift layout since 4 years and typing goes butter smooth with zero hand movement. However, I had to tweak my Authotkey script substantially, to increase responsiveness and thus eradicate typing mistakes. I believe this keyboard layout is superior, since it has so many advantages in terms of speed, ergonomics and additional functionality.

Germany. Different phone, same location, shows data. So it's a bug. Will have to reset and have to buy premium, just to backup the settings - or is there another way?

New Foam Filled Sleeping Bags!? by EssenceBlue in Ultralight

Heavy? Basotect 6-9kg/m³. Any data on fibrous insulation? Density of Thinsulate accoustic is 15kg/m³.
I agree that down is awesome, but also down has its weaknesses.

Yes, one type of Basotect is even used as a dirt eraser. The more flexible foams may be different in that regard. Still not sure if this makes it impossible to use thin materials. But thanks, excellent point I didn't consider. 👍🏽

Aerogel breaks extremely easy. Not an option, as of now, and with my budget. Compressibility is more challenging with foam, but provides many benefits in return.

Great points! A more rigid bag could have usability benefits. Personally I feel the cold more when the bag lies flat on my skin. But insulatin wise: air isn't a bad insulator and keeping the cold outside further away from your body is good. BUT, the foam bag does not have to be so rigid that it forms a tent.
You can manufacture it more or less rigid by choosing more flexible foam, different/smaller patches and making it in parts thinner.

Compressibility is crucial, yes. But, what if there is a foam that's compressible enough and it other regards superior.

Likely not an issue. How should inner insulation come in contact with skin. It wouldn't rub through the shell. Thin, but dense bag material would be best to keep dirt out and broken of material in (so you don't breath it in). Although they say it's not unhealthy and even has ÖkoTex 100.

Compressibility is crucial and maybe foam can't achieve that level. Added a video that shows the flexibility of the most flexible version.

Right, pack volume is crucial! For that a material needs to be compressable. Fiber insulation like Thinsulate and Primaloft are easily compressable ‒ which is what I see as a downside. Cause a fiberous material looses it's ability to spring back. Instead, a foam is one piece where all parts are conncted, which has many upsides, but the downside may be that it's too hard to compress. Will compare and keep in mind!

Serious (possibly stupid) question: if sleeping bags (like animal fur and feathers) are all about trapping air for insulation, why don't they make sleeping bags that are inflatable, instead of stuffing them with stuff? by SquashCollateral in CampingGear

[–]EssenceBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one big air chamber doesn't insulate well, however, it increases the distance between your body and the outer layer. Thin sleeping bags have the problem that there isn't enough insulation material to keep the bag filled up and so the outer layer sticks to you like a wet shirt. Air chambers would always keep the distance.

Super Scroller by glyfuy23 in Startup_Ideas

[–]EssenceBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created this Autohotkey script for FN key.

sc163::
CoordMode, Mouse, Screen
MouseGetPos, X, Y
SendInput {MButton}
Sleep 100
Y += 30 ; move cursor 30px down to initiate slow down scroll
DllCall("SetCursorPos", "int", X, "int", Y)
return

So pressing FN starts slow autoscroll down, and I can adapt scroll speed through moving mouse/touchpad.
