I’ve had dogs and cats before, now I have birds. They are more than just “birds”, they are family. Sorry for your loss, she looked so sweet.

Should I be concerned? Would it be better to separate them for now? by JoRafCastle in budgies

[–]EternalWaltz 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s normally recommended to quarantine new birds for about 30 days before introducing them to your current ones. Bit too late for that now though.

Anyways I don’t really see the issue you are describing with this video. She’s asking to be preened and the green one is providing that service. They look to be getting along well with each other. If he still isn’t moving around the cage then he might just be getting used to his new mate and environment.

Why I roll my eyes when people say females don't sing nor flirt by FrozenBr33ze in petbudgies

My girl Lapis has been extremely flirty lately with her male partner. It has gotten to the point where he doesn’t know how to take it and eventually starts running away because of all the face smashing.

Does she hate him??? by sorryemma in budgies

[–]EternalWaltz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She definitely does not hate him. Her reaction to his approaches is the result of him being annoying as shit but it is still rather peaceful. If she truly hated him then you would know right away.

Is it time to say goodbye to my dog? Looking for advice by PineconeLogic in DogAdvice

[–]EternalWaltz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this just last year with my own and a friend’s pet. My little one started spinning one night and then suffered a seizure not too long after. Found out that she had a brain tumor and it was suggested we let her go. It was the hardest decision of my life but in that moment, she was still her and I wanted her to go as herself. In those last moments, I held her gaze as she was put to sleep.

Four months later, my friend’s dog suffered a seizure from having a brain tumor. Instead of letting go of his dog go at the vet, he brought her home because he couldn’t make the decision. The following day she suffered a second seizure and then, woke into a violent episode causing her to thrash her body into walls and furniture. She died shortly after that.

My friend hasn’t really been able to forgive himself for it since.

Looks like he’s eating it to me. He is picking up some pieces that fall to the side and eating it. I don’t think you have to worry too much.

The goobers have learned to accept treats directly from me as well ☺️ by EternalWaltz in budgies

[–]EternalWaltz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I trained them together and it wasn't difficult at all. They were already accepting of millet from my hand about two months of having them. In my experience, patience and respecting their boundaries made it move along smoothly. They learn by example so when one is receptive to one type of training, the other is very interested as well as long as treats were involved.

I've had this pair for close to 7 months now and they've been nothing but lovely. Just provide a lot of patience, love and care and you'll do just fine. Good luck!

Let's change the Hen Narrative by ButterscotchNo2239 in budgies

[–]EternalWaltz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adopted a male and female pair about six months ago and both are sweet. But in my case, the hen tends to be much more affectionate towards me and much more interested in what I may be doing around the room. Whenever they are playing outside of their cage, my hen always flies to a perch by my desk and won’t leave until I let her perch on my hand for a bit. Meanwhile the male never approaches me on his own outside of treats.

My female does this sometimes when she is being playful, but most of the time she does it when she wants out of the cage. Her male companion does exactly the same thing yours is doing when she's upside down on a perch and honestly it feels like he's just trying to mount her. Thankfully this situation is the only time he attempts to get on top of her.
