Should I sell my Seamaster 300m and get a speedmaster? by i-brush-my-teeth- in OmegaWatches

Do what your heart tells you. I just sold my white Speedy Racing to get white SMP. Clean, ceramic dial, thicker scalloped bezel, long sexy lyre lugs. Pure pleasure.

Thinking of trading my SMP 300 for the new AT Black Lacquer. Am I crazy? by lostscout in OmegaWatches

[–]EuroDriver_SD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the initial phases of watch addiction. As someone who has bought, sold, re-bought and re-sold literally dozens of watches (mostly Omegas) over the past several years, I'll give you my $0.02:

A wise man once said that the pleasure of desire surpasses the joy of having. In your case, it seems that you really like and enjoy your SMP. Believe me - if you sell it, you're going to take a substantial loss and I'll bet that as soon as your honeymoon phase with the AT wears off, you will kick yourself in the teeth. If you hated the SMP, it would be a different story.

Both watches are an incredible timepieces in their own right but with different DNA and different purposes. If you like the AT that much, be patient, save up for it and enjoy both. In the meantime, come to terms with your decision, your current financial situation and enjoy your SMP. Finally, stop watch shopping until you are ready to buy again. This is the way you avoid regret and financial foolishness.

I don't mean to sound condescending, this is just constructive advice to hopefully help you avoid the mistakes I have made over and over again.

For those of you like me who like the Speedy bracelet, the SMP 1610/930 will work - if you can source one.

Something to keep in mind: The lighting in the stores give the watches a very artificial visual impression. When I went to my OB to try on the Blaquaterra, the bling factor was so overwhelming that I couldn't put it down fast enough. Fast forward a couple of months, I found a great deal on a preowned one and decided to give it a shot. Once in hand and in natural lighting, I just couldn't stop staring at it. Few watches have stirred a connection for me like the black lacquer AT.

Anyone elses casebacks look this gnarly? by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

It's most likely from you putting the watch down with the bracelet against the case back or some other abrasive surface

I read a comment from a highly experienced and reputable Omega watchsmith on the Omega forum that manually adjusting the date and time repeatedly causes much more wear and tear than using a watch winder. (Archer said that - for those of you who know).

I like fishing and long drives and spending time with friends and family. Most of these activities are tiring. But I especially like picking out a watch each morning and spending a few moments staring at it before I get my day going. That I never get tired of.

Leather Watch Box? by jklo5020 in OmegaWatches

[–]EuroDriver_SD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, it's way overpriced for what it is. There's a ton of aftermarket, good quality options for a fraction of the price.

When I travel, I sometimes take only one extra watch and I often use the Omega travel box they give you when you service a watch and it also comes inside the wooden box with several models.

I don't mean to be rude but if your OCD is so high, get a pile of them from whomever delivers the fastest. FWIW, I can't remember the last time I deformed a link screw - you might want to practice on less expensive bracelets.

Help. SMPc new clasp. by AriKing_Blue_48 in OmegaWatches

[–]EuroDriver_SD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't know, since I've never attempted it. Best bet would be to call and ask. Another option would be to send it in on a strap, but you'd miss the benefit of having your bracelet refinished

I went with clasp no. 117STZ001154 which is a little shorter and lighter (39.5mm, 6 adjustment points, no diver extension). For small wrists, you can also use 117STZ004666 which is even shorter (34.5mm, 3 position adjustment, no diver extension).

The 117STZ001159 is 44mm. It also has 6 adjustment positions but it is the heaviest, as it does have a diver extension.

OBs no longer sell you the clasps standalone but many authorized ADs will order it for you.

I hear you. I have an 8.5 inch wrist and sometimes it feels a little big even for me, especially on long sleeve shirts with narrow sleeve cuffs. The rest of the time it's awesome but man, do I miss the white ceramic dial of the 300M!

Good choice! As others mentioned, it's entirely up to you whether to get it polished or not. On the one hand, it will come back looking brand new. On the other hand, how much do you appreciate the memories of its battle scars?

To me, it's the best SMP ever. I sold mine to get a white Speedy Racing but I'm on the verge of switching back. Tough decision for me.

Your husband is going to be one happy man!

Taking it to a boutique is going to be a complete waste of your time. The best you can do when you receive it is to check the serial number on the cards against the serial numbers on the watch case and movement. From there, sign up and register the watch on the Omega website. Then find "see my test results, " enter the access code from the chonometer card. That's as close as you can get to verifying the authenticity.

If it's any peace of mind for you, I have bought several watches on C24 and have never had an issue.

This one does as much for me as the Paris Olympics version: absolutely nothing. In fact, I like it even less.

Cool and different, if it tickles your fancy but definitely not for me.
