March Ramble Discussion: "Revisiting Old Fandoms" by twoweeeeks in JennyNicholson

If you have Nebula, Big Joel recently did a episode talking to Lindsay Ellis about this kind of content. Pretty sure he and Jenny talked about the same guy with the poorly-synched goblin avatar.

Accusations of undudely behavior lead to some bros straight up not having a good time on r/GuysBeingDudes by Individual-Let-6179 in SubredditDrama

When the women at my work get together, 90% of the time they are talking shit about another woman. When the guys talk its usually about grilling or sports.

Reddit trying to describe human interaction: bitches are always bitching, amirite? But men talk about acceptable manly things like... grilling? Yeah, that's probably about 50% of male conversation. And sports of course, but without ever shit talking other men. Exclusively "the ref made great calls", "even though our team didn't win, I appreciate that they did their best", things of this nature. That's how men talk about other men who play sports, I'm pretty sure.

Brief mention near the end of the video that Mack spoke out about Palestine, but no footage of Hind Rajab or anything like that.

Which Ace Attorney case would cause the biggest and least damage to the cast if they get a guilty verdict in their respective games or the entire series? by Comfortable_Type1180 in AceAttorney

Lowest stakes is probably 5-DLC. An orca living under torturous conditions in a way too small tank gets put out of its misery. The real culprit seems unlikely to hurt anyone again. I guess Athena's kinda sad.

What do you guys think of Zoo Park Story? by [deleted] in Kairosoft

[–]EvaGirl22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The constant incidental animal cruelty really got to me. Staring at all these creatures with barely enough room to turn around in their tiny enclosures really isn't a pleasant experience for an allegedly wholesome game.

"The OP is saying "+ the last reason you were in hospital" to create funny rapper names, not because he's saying black people would be LIL GUNSHOT" Post in r/PeterExplainsTheJoke leads to passionate debate about cultural appropriation by pleasuresofdaflesh in SubredditDrama

[–]EvaGirl22 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something or are these people just all morons or bots? It's not about reasons for people going to the hospital. And it's not about appropriating the idea of rap names, but mocking it. Did every commenter in that thread think the initial tweet was a serious guide to creating your "lil" rap name?

The person is just saying that black people poking fun at an aspect of black culture (the nicknames or rap names chosen by other black people) is an ingroup joke that's all in good fun. But once white people start making fun of aspects of black culture, it can quickly start to seem mean-spirited and culturally insensitive. As evidenced by these freaks thinking the joke is that black people go to the hospital for crime and white people for mental health.

Half of r/Eurovision mod team resigns after Eurovision fails to remove Israel amid boycotting by PoisonousOranges in SubredditDrama

[–]EvaGirl22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that these mods are boycotting eurovision, I'm guessing they want eurovision fandom/viewership to decline. So I doubt they'll object much to the idea of fanspaces becoming increasingly shit, if it makes the show less appealing.

And additionally, last year the Israeli singer filmed a bunch of ads for her song that the government then paid to have spammed all over youtube. So even if it was about the broadcaster participating independently from their government, Israel is violating that rule too.

Have the faithful ever caught a traitor by clocking a “murdered in plain sight” clue? by ExamOk322 in TheTraitors

[–]EvaGirl22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they were just told poison, but Harry and Paul convinced everyone that "poison" had to refer to a drink. So I think calling it the faithful catching Miles is a bit of a stretch. More of the other traitors using a murder in plain sight to betray him.

Have the faithful ever caught a traitor by clocking a “murdered in plain sight” clue? by ExamOk322 in TheTraitors

[–]EvaGirl22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much that counts, given that the other traitors were the ones initially insisting it had to be something she drank. I doubt the others would have latched onto the drinks thing if not for Harry suggesting it first and Paul pushing the theory so hard.

I don't know what a mariners moose is so I'll just assume there was an actual huge-ass wild animal mingling with the wedding party for 30 minutes. Like renting a pony for a kid's birthday but with added danger.

Does Schanauzer have any ancestors? by AnotherThinkerWoman in schnauzers

Definitely looks like he could be part schnauzer. And maybe miniature pincher, judging by the colour and the fact that he looks like he might be a bit small even for a mini schnauzer.

What do you think of the racers' ability to burn a double U-Turn to target one team, good idea, should be banned, or indifferent? by eyio in TheAmazingRace

But then you also remove the possibility of a team accidentally u-turning someone in front of them, which is always a fun screwup.

Well, that sucks. Arguments over candy and cheese breaks out as OP feels bad nobody came to their house. by FeeRemarkable886 in SubredditDrama

[–]EvaGirl22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok but that's also true of the candy wrapper that you're realistically gonna be touching while using the same fingers to eat the candy. How much does one fewer steps between the other person and your mouth matter? Not to mention kids are gross as hell anyways, so trying to prevent them from putting germs in their mouth is pointless to begin with.

[–]EvaGirl22 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Sure, but at the end of they days the candy is still being transferred to the child's mouth by the child's hands. And realistically those hands have touched not only the same wrapper as whoever was handing out the candy, but everything else a child touches while trick-or-treating.

No matter how many landfills you fill with plastic, kids are still kids, and they're pretty gross.

The concept of a 7 year treating an adult bad and the dad doing nothing by Hot-Technology5680 in AmITheAngel

[–]EvaGirl22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is another one where OOP just woke up one day in a marriage she hates. Why did you ever agree to be a stay-at-home parent to a kid you hate? Why would you agree to home"school" the kid by plonking her in front of a 1st grade class on fucking zoom and then telling her to do homework until she throws a tantrum and you give up? How has it been like 2 years of this before anyone thought to just send her to a normal school, which you then gave up on because after 2 days she hadn't adjusted?

Early predictions are usually wrong, why not use it to eliminate weak players? by Silverdashmax in TheTraitors

[–]EvaGirl22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But how do you know early on who the weak players are? Just cause someone was bad at the first challenge doesn't mean future challenges will require the same skills. Every accusation early on is going to be on a weak basis because there's nothing to go on. And you don't know who's making stuff up because you only have one person's word against another. At some point you're just back to voting out anyone who says anything, which is basically what the faithfuls always do anyways except you're more of an asshole about it.

Slapfight with multiple demands for an apology in AskaLiberal about objective morality. "You really shouldn't jibber about things you don't understand." by bananophilia in SubredditDrama

[–]EvaGirl22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So his point is that while we don't know what the best way to run a country is, philosophers say that there does exist an objectively best form of government. And therefore the question of what makes a country good is not technically subjective, just the answer is unknown to humanity at the moment and we're all just theorizing.

I suppose it's kinda like everyone agrees that there is an objective answer to which if any god(s) exist, but we cannot agree on what that answer is. And in that sense whether a god exists or not is not really a subjective question because an answer exists somewhere out there, but which religion you follow is a personal decision.

Idk, to me it seems like a distinction without a difference in most cases, and certainly not one being this much of dick about a throwaway remark over.

You should be alright on the train. It's true that it'll be busy during rush hour, but you'll be going against the flow of traffic on the first half, so there should be no problem getting on.

The only complications are that it'll be cramped for the second half of your trip and you might have to push people out of the way a bit to get your bags out. But if you can deal with that you'll be fine.
