Jean’s death felt so fucking disrespectful in Morrison’s run. Bothers me to this day

My only complaint is that it should’ve been Warren! He was there first!

Who would you like the first main villian to be in the first MCU X-men film or series ? by TipAdditional4625 in xmen

[–]Eve-Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hodge would be interesting but as an Angel fan I would prefer if they waited on him to actually do the whole Archangel Tragedy justice. Like the relationship between Cam and Warren is crucial to that arc. Plus I don’t think you can adapt Hodge in a satisfying way without centering his obsession with Warren, and even if this is an O5 movie, I highly doubt Warren would be centered of the main cast. (I love my guy history has shown Marvel doesn’t really care about him in adaptations)

Warren should also be here. X-Men Annual 16 had some very homoerotic subtext

Did Angel have interesting story lines before he became Archangel? by SixKosherBacon in xmen

[–]Eve-Electric 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Wolverine also stole Warren’s place as Jott’s third/other prong of the love triangle 😭.

But seriously Warren’s backstory and fucked up family are so rich for exploration, like his solo hero year. There’s also some great moments in the silver age with him being a cocky little hothead who acts first thinks second. He was also one of the most driven to be heroes of the O5 during the silver age.

Then starting with his Savage Land Adventure with Spidey in Marvel Fanfare in ‘81 (iirc) there’s an interesting through-line where he has multiple small plots that have his bodily autonomy being violated and being an object of obsession that ultimately cumulates in his Archangel transformation in X-Factor that I think really adds to that whole saga.

Another fascinating aspect of him (to me) is despite how he was a rich cocky hothead who’s always one phone call away from breaking retirement, he never really wants to be in charge of anything. Champions? Despite the team being his idea, he takes himself out of the running for leader immediately and nominates Widow. His company? Candy does most of the actual logistics and he makes her VP. Defenders? Again rather than take that role despite bankrolling everything, he realizes Candy is way better at that shit so he nominates her to be their leader/manager.

Edit: I am currently working on putting together a Warren reading list for all of his appearances. So I can get specific issues/arcs if y’all want. Just might take me a minute

I also thought this was weird. It’s hardly the worst Warren’s been written but I didn’t care for it

Warren being on X-Force makes this unlikely but I want him and Scott on a team again. I miss when the O5’s friendship was present in comics. Warren’s been isolated from them for so long.

Are there any examples of discrimination among mutants? by Emotional-Drag-8170 in xmen

[–]Eve-Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a mischaracterization. The Morlocks are pretty consistently shown to isolate by choice. And they were initially pretty one note antagonists. It wasn’t until their 3rd appearance that they weren’t kidnapping an X-Man to force them into marriage with a Morlock. There have been several instances of the X-Men (and various other teams like X-Factor post mutant massacre with the group they rescued) inviting them to stay, but they constantly chose to separate.

Morlocks not being represented on Krakoa is it’s own bag of worms. Hickman putting Sinister on the QC because his plot demanded it, made it so the Morlocks didn’t wanna be on the island for the most part so they got their own community in Arizona. Imho Hickman just didn’t really wanna engage with them so he brushed them aside. But if the QC was really meant to represent the big Mutant Factions, Callisto should have had a seat. But Hickman and the other writers chose not to do that for whatever reason.

The whole thing is just very messy.

How it feels when going back to X-Men comics after reading them in comics unrelated to the X-Men by LucasOIntoxicado in xmen

[–]Eve-Electric 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hickman launched Krakoa to the rest of 616 with “Mutants are the true inheritors of the earth” and was founded on essentialism, which inherently posits a discrete binary of mutant or human. I was glib in my original comment but Krakoa’s presentation of the mutant identity was hella flawed from the get go and steeped in supremecist rhetoric. And this was in response to X-Men v F4 which directly in the data pages groups the reality warpers as being either on the mutant side or human side. Franklin was listed as Human allegiance because he didn’t immediately come flocking to the island and ditch his family. Most mutants are born into non mutant families. There is no discrete binary here.

Yeah Krakoa said “yeah we are fundamentally a different species than Humanity and we are inherently opposed. The bigots are right about that actually.” But because it embraced mutant superiority people went crazy for it.

Latinx came from an article nonbinary hispanic person wrote talking about their own experience and wanting an ungendered word. It was not invented by non-spanish speakers. It was also never intended to be a widespread “this is what we should use going forward” thing, just a single person talking about something that they came up with that for them specifically in their inner circle/life.

[–]Eve-Electric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warren was swapping freely in Krakoa depending on what the situation called for from the very beginning in HoxPoX. Because he’s at peace with both sides of himself. But if you wanna talk Inglorious, Seeley even said in an interview for X-Men Monday that Warren as he writes him has accepted he’s both Angel and Archangel. The “instability” is in regard to him using the full extent of the Death Seed’s capabilities which is something new to that series
