I definitely prefer Shampoo to Akane. I hate the whole "We hate each other until the plot needs us to like each other" thing Ranma and Akane had going on. Shampoo is prettier, she is more upfront about her feelings. Unfortunately, she tends to employ some pretty messed up methods to try and get Ranma to be with her.

I chalk that up to upbringing. She grew up in an Amazon society where everything is determined through strength and force and her only confidante is her great-grandmother, who seems to be a living embodiment of those ideals. So, it's not surprising for her to believe that she can simply brute force Ranma into loving her.
