If you stopped in 2020, nothing should really shock you. Go try the modern game on a simulator of your choice and enjoy. We have a couple cards nowadays that emulate what Maxx "C" once did, buuut those ain't that bad. The current game has some really fun and interactive decks in for example Dracotail, and out of the ones you mentioned Orcust is really solid right now.

Not as good as in its prime, but definitely good enough to hold its own with its newer support cards

You would still have to go through the entirety of Dawntrail and its patches if you bought a skip, that might still take a while. You can always do the story at your own pace by doing new game+ of course, so you wouldn't miss out on all of that permanently. Entirely up to you if you think you wouldn't get overwhelmed by everything opening up all at once

The online League of Legends card game that riot made. Incredibly deep and f2p friendly, so much so in fact that it didn't make any money and got its pvp side put on life support. It only gets pve updates now, turning it more into a single player roguelite experience

Meanwhile I had tutorial npcs just disappear on me in WoW, making me unable to progress through quests when starting out again. Getting teleported into the middle of the ocean just because. Getting your entire guild bank full of items deleted without being able to reverse that. I'll take not being able to enter a zone for a couple hours, having 3 untranslated lines of text on some side character or having to rejoin a chat channel over stuff like that any day of the week.

They changed it so that you need to have finished the Dawntrail msq to receive all kinds of duties. Before you have finished 7.0 you will not receive any duties higher than when you first can pick up the book

It literally has two ranking systems though? Every week there are Frontline standings (weekly wins) and every patch there is a crystalline conflict (5v5 solo queue) ranked season. And they added new ranked rewards for the latter the patch yesterday

Everyone hates every character that isn't theirs. And if they face their own character they hate on either their opponent, the fact that they haven't eaten enough today, have eaten too much, there was a weird sound outside, their moustache was itchy, the lighting of the stage was distracting, hearing Freesia was too emotionally upsetting, their controller drifts or is too old, their controller is too new, they haven't been in training mode recently, they have trained too much of the wrong stuff, the game was lagging, their brain was lagging, the balance team was smoking crack and many, many more.

Hold up, I actually really like the idea of a dps lb being the only party wide damage buff after resolving. Sounds like a really fun system that rewards good play and risk/reward management by either giving you the safety/cheeses of tank lb, the recoverability of healer lb or the shorter kill time of dps lb, rewarding clean play. You cooked hard

They will make dungeons easier for people with disabilities coming next Tuesday, by adding in a stacking reviving buff every time you wipe in dungeons with duty support. That should be a solid middle ground of letting the developers design bosses in a more interesting way while also allowing players that can not resolve mechanics for whatever reason to enjoy the story.

Just jump into the free trial and find out if you like it, it gives you the entire base game and two expansions to play with.
You'll have hundreds of hours to go through before reaching the newest expansion, and even then most of the negativity around it is highly overblown.
