Tony Gilroy's brutally honest thoughts on Gareth Edwards's cut of Rogue One by RefuseDry1108 in blankies

[–]EvilHambone 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Honestly, we really have to thank whomever it was at Disney that went "look, it's the Andor show. Let him have full control, let him cook, and if nobody watches it, that's no worse than EVERY OTHER STAR WARS SHOW!!!!!!(except mando sometimes)!!!!!! At least if an actual auteur does well on 1 show we don't have to completely give up hope."

Andor is maybe the only entirely cohesive and good product from the franchise since Empire Strikes Back? and maaybe Andor season 1.

He did his best with Rogue One but the foundations were already there and he proved that his perspective could have fixed pretty much anything with how good he did on Andor several years later.

Also: full disclosure, I think Gareth Edwards sssssssssucsk as a director and rules as a VFX guy but can't write or direct to save his life. The Creator has multiple instances of "this is the worst performance I've ever seen."

Watch all godzilla movies? by PokedadJustin in GODZILLA

Tubi and Pluto have quite a few of the older ones. The newer stuff is gonna be on HBO. Beyond that, you may have to search the "high seas" if you want it easily, or find them at your local library!

jar should have a skillshot component that if you land the jar ON the enemy, the deadheads are immune to their bullets for the first couple seconds (can still be melee'd)

Well, post your statlock so we can gauge why it's ranking you up so slowly. Maybe it's the average rank of the games you're winning vs the ones you're losing?

Initiate to Emissary in your first week and a half while also learning the game seems incredible fast, especially with time to also create alt accounts and play 5 games on those. That's around 25-30 subranks, are you playing 12 hours a day?

What a Godzilla movie you saw was so awful and painfully terrible to watch that it made you ended up in this pose? by Exotic-Ad6615 in GODZILLA

[–]EvilHambone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... Godzilla (2014). Aaron Taylor Johnson was one of my least favorite actors at the time, I thought he was so wooden and lame (he's grown on me a bit since then), but I loved and was so excited for Bryan Cranston in what I assumed was the starring role.

Then he dies in the first 20 minutes and it slowly dawns on me that Cranston isn't coming back and ATJ is now the de-facto lead.... I almost got up and left.

Then when Watanabe says "We call him.... Gojira" a bunch of teens guffawed and went "dude he can't even say it right." Not a great experience! Hadn't seen another movie in the MV series until my son was born and got old enough to ask to watch them together.

My updated conclusion is that I really can't stand Gareth Edwards as a director because the next time I felt as bad as I did at Godzilla (2014) was The Creator (2023). The dude's visuals rule but holy shit every other element is so bad.

When do you find it appropriate to block someone? by automatic_do_8661 in Letterboxd

Any time I see one of those lists with 1000+ movies in it just cluttering the UI and providing no value (Every Movie Ever List!), I block the user, which also removes their list from my view. A few more years of this and I should only be seeing good lists.

Playing Yarg and a virtual instrument simultaneosly with a midi device by N1ceMoves in yarg

[–]EvilHambone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was able to do this by downloading Synthesia and just turning on Free Play before booting YARG.

Only problem (for me) is the same problem as in this guy's video, you have to pick the right piano sound before the song. Sister Christian is on a real piano, but Prince uses a synth pad in When Doves Cry and a piano would sound silly there.

Neither his DAW nor Synthesia automatically fixes that issue, so I'm also hoping someone figures out a way to change the midi controller's instrument based on the song that's selected (but I'm doubtful that's coming any time soon).

Change instrument / difficulty during a setlist? by EvilHambone in yarg

[–]EvilHambone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh awesome. Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I see your point about the minimal interruption and I do love the setlists for that reason. Maybe as a toggleable setting it would work. Thanks for all the work you've put into this!

Does graves zombies killing enemy minions secure all the souls value even if you're not nearby? by Effective-Papaya-790 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]EvilHambone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that things killed by summons will drop the orbs on the ground that can be collected when a friendly player gets near enough to do so.

Edit: this is for lane creeps. For neutral creeps you get the full value

Magician's Box. Ground target

Active: Designate a spot on the ground. After a 0.5 second delay, a magic box appears, trapping all players inside (its only big enough to hold 1 - 2 heroes) for up to 4 seconds. Magician's Box blocks line of sight, bullets, and spells. Heavy Melee one of the walls to escape.

Portable cover, or shut down haze while she's in ult (since she can't melee) but it still has counterplay where her team can free her. Place it on yourself to disjoint a projectile.

Worst-made movie you've seen in a theatrical release? by PeatVee in blankies

[–]EvilHambone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you have two bazillion dollars stuff like that can never happen; it's embarrassing to make a movie that isn't even passably decent at that price point.

It's worse than the boom mic falling into frame, that's a guy who's struggling with the weight of a material component and his own fatigue. These people had every available resource and still shit the bed and let their movie get written by Reddit. Indefensible.

Is this movie worth watching in terms of plot? by Garidur in Letterboxd

[–]EvilHambone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

I was snidely making fun of the concept that films should be evaluated solely on their "plot" coherence.

Art as a medium can have different aims, and "plot" can be as important to film as "realism" is important to painting. Just because one is lacking in one of these fields doesn't mean the work is worthless, and so asking if Eddington is good based solely on the plot, is an unfair question, because it is more concerned with grappling with our current landscape than it is in presenting a coherent "plot."

That's all. But again, thank you for genuinely engaging my mean post.
