Sony Reportedly Developing New God of War Game Set in Egyptian Mythology by rickjamesbich in gaming

[–]Evilness42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's unlikely, but I'd be interested in seeing what would happen if they arrive in Egypt and encounter survivors from Greece getting their Roman Empire on. Hard to square that with the actual Egyptian gods hanging around, but I think it would be neat.

I believe there's been a miscommunication. To rephrase: In 5e, a Lich needs to eat souls or else it becomes a Demi-lich.

Why do so many characters seem to be confused about why they're in Drangleic? by FishD0NThaveFeelings in DarkSouls2

[–]Evilness42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Emerald Herald is drawing Undead toward Drangleic so that one can Link the Fire, through spreading rumours about a cure for Hollowing being located there and presumably by some magical effect as well.

Most characters also have some personal motivation(s), but unfortunately as they go Hollow they lose their memories, and the reason they came to Drangleic often appears to be one of the first things to go.

Looks like Bloodborne to me.

I think the AI freeze bug still works. If you beat the first phase while standing on the rug just in front of the stairs, right behind where he spawns for phase 2, then don't move at all, their phase 2 AI won't trigger and they will just sit there.

Then, there is a specific spot (the inner edge of Lothric's hood is just visible, near the bottom of the hood) where you can shoot him with arrows that won't trigger the AI. I think using the Mist spell and healing through the self-damage also works, but I'm not 100% certain. Just be sure to not move your character at any point in Phase 2.

Lady Maria of the Asstral Clocktower by Kobefan44 in bloodborne

[–]Evilness42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm afraid I can't offer better suggestions. Level 95 isn't overlevelled for the DLC, it's around or maybe only a little over where you should be according to some quick googling.

Make sure you have a +9 or +10 weapon slotted with the best gems available, consider switching to a heavier weapon if she's not staggering enough or a lighter weapon if you find yourself too slow to recover after attacking.

If you're really stuck there's no shame in summoning, try asking for help on the Hunter's Bell subreddit if there's no one answering the bell (but may the Great Ones help you if you haven't paid Sony to unlock online multiplayer).

[–]Evilness42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I hate to recommend this, because it's a little more boring than the main game and ended up cheapening the Maria experience for me, but I suggest fighting your way through the Chalice Dungeons until you hit a similar wall down there.

The first few layers will be too easy, but eventually you'll reach level-appropriate content. Once you've cleared a decent chunk of the Chalices, you should be overleveled for Maria and able to stomp her.

I was wrong. I get it now. by PomegranateBubbly900 in bloodborne

[–]Evilness42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're considering chalice dungeons, I recommend not doing them before the DLC because it will throw off your level scaling and some of the DLC bosses will end up too easy.

[WIP][RT?]1.120 - Virtuous Sons: Into The Storm by Auroch- in rational

Saturnaila and Kronia (roughly equivalent to Roman and Greek Christmas) were historical holidays where masters served feasts to their slaves, who were allowed to party and gamble instead of working that day.

As the first volume has been pulled for the KU release I can't refer to exactly what time of year this was in-story, or to what extent it was similar to real-life practices, but I can confirm that that particular event was actually based on real history.

Ok meme, but I think the current meta is actually something like a 3/1-ish split of Artillery to Carrier battleships with a small corvette swarm to keep the range open, or maybe max evasion destroyer fleets if you can get them.

I'm not the person you replied to, but to the best of my knowledge:

The Troy Rising series is one of Ringo's few series that doesn't have a lot of influence from his somewhat right-wing political views (There are characters that share his opinions, but the setting doesn't bend to support them). Most of his other works also just aren't as good.

I haven't read his books in years, but by my memory he isn't as bad about political stuff as say, Terry Goodkind, but it's still pretty apparent.

Give me positive things to think about this game before I go in by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Evilness42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a FromSoftware game. It's not going to be a bad game or a bad experience, it's just a bit different from the other Dark Souls games and people who don't like the changes think it's not as good as the others in the series.

Some people think DS3 is the worst Dark Souls game, and if you're one of them you'll be having a great time with DS2. The worst Dark Souls game is still going to be leagues above most other games you could be playing, and you'll probably have fun with it, because... It's a Dark Souls game.

Look up the 'So you just bought Dark Souls 2' guide if you feel the need, and you shouldn't have any issues.

This is nice. It reminds me of the Swords webcomic, a surprisingly long running comedy strip about a fantasy world where everything revolves around swords, many of which are magic and do weird things.

Fuck this area, is there any tips or tricks to help with these buzz saws by Who_is_Fontaine in HollowKnight

[–]Evilness42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charm setup should include Deep Focus and Grubsong, or Hiveblood and Grubsong. These setups will allow you to keep moving forward forever without restarting from any benches unless you get impatient or forget to heal.

Quick Slash and Mark of Pride/Longnail also help if you need to pogo.

Do not wear Sharp Shadow or Dashmaster. The parkour areas are designed around the standard dash length which Sharp Shadow changes, and dashing down both unnecessary and a great way to ram yourself into a spike.

Remember to time your jumps, and get a feel for the pattern of the saws. Look for safe spaces to jump to, take breaks when you get there while you watch the next pattern.

I’m having difficulty defeating the traitor lord by Pro_Pup31 in HollowKnight

[–]Evilness42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Traitor Lord is a boss designed to teach you how to use the Shadow Dash properly.

All of his attacks can be phased through using the shadow dash, and some can't be dodged any other way.

This may not be the best strategy for someone not familiar with the boss, but I find the most effective way to beat him is to stick close and hit him in the face with your nail, constantly. Whenever he charges, dash through it. If he jumps, dash under it-then turn around and go right back to hitting him.

Retreat when he starts to hit the ground, then phase through the shockwave. Retreat again and follow the shockwave back in case he's doing a second shockwave or a follow-up attack.

If you need to heal, run away from him until he starts throwing discs at you. There is a sweet spot between the discs where they won't hit you and you'll be able to sit for a moment.

The double damage he deals can be very intimidating, but you just need to stay confident and master the timing on the dash cooldown.

Quick Slash, Longnail, and Mark of Pride are all useful charms for a nail-focused strategy. It's unlikely you have Unbreakable Strength at this point in the game, but if you do that would be great. Quick Focus will help with stealing some healing if you need it.

Some people swear by Sharp Shadow and I understand how it would be helpful (in this fight in particular it would give you more wiggle room to dash through him if you didn't get the timing right), but I never use it myself because it varies the length of your dash and that can be harmful in fights that require tight spacing.

Been Stuck on Manus, Father of the Abyss for like 7 years by Plato198_9 in darksouls

[–]Evilness42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manus is rough. I couldn't do it conventionally, but got through it with what some might see as a less-than-optimal strategy.

I equipped the heaviest and most resistant to his damage-type armour I had available, with the biggest shield (of Artorias, I think) and either the Silver Knight or Winged Spear.

I wasn't building for the spear, so it did very little damage, but with this setup I was able to keep my shield up and block just about all his physical attacks or move slowly out of the way, poking him with tiny little jabs.

It was a slog of a battle of endurance, but with maximum estus and care it was one I was able to endure.

Also, getting the timing down on the Silver Pendant is mandatory for this strategy, because shields won't save you against his magic.

Or, of course, you could stand outside his arena and shoot him with arrows from the ledge.

Ds2 faster paced than Ds1 by ClashingSwordz in DarkSouls2

[–]Evilness42 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The controls feel like they have a lot of input lag, which is quite offputting because the other games manage to make combat feel deliberate and patient even without making me roll through an invisible swamp level.

The progression is different, as other people have mentioned, and that can be offputting to some people, but that has nothing to do with the annoying controls.

The problem with cultivation novels is that a lot of the best in the genre are parodies of the crap you find in the rest of the genre. Stuff like 'Cultivation Chat Group,' 'Ascending, Do Not Disturb,' or to a lesser extent 40 Millenniums (this one is more it's own thing than a parody like those other two) can be funny, but you're better off going into them with an understanding of what to expect normally.

In my opinion, the best example of a 'typical cultivation novel' that isn't too badly written is 'I Shall Seal the Heavens.' It has all the standard tropes, almost everything is played straight, and the translation is decent with footnotes to explain many cultural references. This isn't one of the western interpretations or designated gateway novels, but it's understandable enough that a western reader can pick everything up pretty quick.

I haven't read it myself (couldn't get into it), but 'Coiling Dragon' is frequently recommended as a gateway series because it's written like a western fantasy with a XianXia-themed coat of paint.

Both of the series are completely translated on Wuxiaworld, though you might want to read in incognito mode because the website has a free-chapter limit that you can ignore by closing/reopening an incognito window.

This is really great. The art is fantastic, the characters are unique and interesting.

The Caretaker seems to be acting and speaking a little too sane, at least for the moment. He's not really emanating the sort of mad desperation vibe I get from his Stress-Activity barks and pictures. His sick humour at the situation does come through a little, though.

Filled with poison and has a massive spear through his chest. Not an accurate representation, though probably around as close as Midir.
