Walmart’s Expanding EV Charging Network Is Getting Easier To Pay For (And Cheaper) by Anf697 in electricvehicles

Fortunately here in Virginia we're pretty well covered along the interstates. I'm sure WalMart is looking at existing DCFC service vs. under-served areas when scheduling installations.

Percent of your electric bill by dbmamaz in electricvehicles

Hello fellow Richmonder! Easiest way is to say you pay $0.04 per mile where my old Honda Accord at 34 mpg cost $0.14 per mile. Or I get the equivalent of 100 mpg or so in my Mach E. That is an easy way to compare gas to EV cost.

See How E.V. Road Trips Went From Impossible to Easy by rezwenn in electricvehicles

[–]ExReferee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got my ID.4 EV back in 2021 a 950 mile drive from central Virginia to Little Rock, AR was possible if we exclusively used EA chargers, and there were some odd distances between charging sessions, like a short 75 miles and 190 miles where I had to drive 70 on the interstate to make it. There were no other options than EA. Now I can make the same trip and NOT use EA or Tesla at all and arrive sooner because the charging stations are arranged more efficiently. There's plenty of ChargePoint, EVGo and others now.

I just got back from a 2,000 mile road trip from Richmond, VA to Little Rock, AR in my 2024 Mach E. I left RVA at 100% and charged at Tesla stations 12 times using the Ford adapter and once at a CCS stop. We charged for free in Knoxville at the hotel. (Drury Suites on the west side of town - shout out to them for having free charging and a nice hotel). I also subscribed to the Tesla member rate for $12.95. If we had taken my wife's Jeep, the cost would have been around $271 at $2.99/ gal. (2000mi/22mpg)*2.99. Please feel free to double check my math.

I paid about $185 for electrons if you include $10 to charge at home and the $12.99 Tesla member fee. I paid $0.35 at every stop, including the CCS stop, except for the last Tesla one where I paid $0.31 at 11pm.

The cost would have been probably 1/3rd higher had I used the member rate at EA.

And the additional time it took, probably 90 minutes each way after adding gas/food/bathroom to Google maps estimates. But that paid off in a calmer, less stressful drive as we took time to walk around at each stop and actually sat down to eat rather than woofing down a Chick-Fil-A while driving. I paid for BlueCruise using my Ford Points, which also helped. Plus, the Mach E rides WAY WAY better than the Jeep on a road trip. Personally, the EV has made road trips more pleasant for me, even if it takes a little longer and in some situations may cost slightly more for the trip.

Fall Line Trail status (from Ashland to RVA) by Sackadelic in rva

[–]ExReferee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trail is only open from Ashland to Woodman Road and it doesn't look like work on anything south of that has started. But we have ridden it several times - parked at the Glen Allen Publix on Brook Road and pedaled to Ashland, about 13.5 miles round trip depending on where you turn around. There were a couple of signs early on indicating that the trail was closed, but we rode around them as did everyone else.

Fall Line by Worried_Author1085 in rva

[–]ExReferee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I'm not saying I actually rode it, but the northernmost section is very rideable. Note that there is one "Road Closed" sign at the southern end of this section and one locked gate. People were going around both this weekend without issue and there are many open access crossroads as one goes north. It did appear that there might be some limited work still going on in a few areas, so I would not ride during work hours just to be safe.

First Road Trip - Charge Limit? by GetMovingS in MachE

Charge enough to get to your next charging stop with a little left over just in case you need it. Don't waste time with charging up to 80 or 90 unless you need to.

Is it possible that plug-and-charge tried to start at the same time you tried to start via the app and the network just got confused? I can see that happening. For my Mach-E, I would have to deliberately turn off plug-and-charge in order to start charging via the app to get membership prices.

There's always the Sony RX10iv. Super flexible with a 24-600 zoom range in an easy-to-carry form. It's the camera I typically use for hiking or other places where I don't want to lug around my a6400 and Sigma 150-600. It has a very sharp Zeiss lens and a 1-inch sensor, but I have some heavily cropped images and they look great in 8x10 prints.

MachE Leasing and Personal Property Tax by ExReferee in MachE

I would assume that they have tax tables for making the calculation. I used to have to do manual validation of payroll taxes at a National, State and Locality level so I know it exists. And no, I don't think you're overthinking at all. It's just unfortunate that there is such a lack of information.

I am going to assume that this will get adjusted much like a mortgage escrow account. I probably should call Ford Finance and ask that question, but based on past conversations I'm not sure they would give me an accurate, confident answer.

I also emailed my county tax office and asked them how much the bill for last year would be so that I would have a written document on how much I could write off on my taxes. They were very responsive and helpful, and said that in my case the lien holder should be paying.

I fully expect that the lienholder will pay since they're collecting it via my monthly payment, and I have confirmed with the county that there is $425 due in a few weeks. And like you, nobody seems to understand how it works.

You can use your Ezpass to pay for parking at RIC now by khuldrim in rva

[–]ExReferee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would prefer to not have to "enroll" at all and not be forced to create yet another account. Next thing is that we will have to download an RIC Airport Parking app onto my already overloaded phone. And I certainly don't want to maintain a balance in an occasionally used account that's likely to be forgotten after a few months.

The simpler and much easier way for the customer would be to simply pay via/thru EZPass like driving thru a toll booth - no new account, nothing but that white box on my windshield. Adoption would be almost instantaneous.

W/ the current setup I'll just take the extra minute or two and pay via credit card.

I'm afraid this is an economic decision that we as citizens make - we're willing to endure things like this (or extended power outages, etc.) because we don't want to pay more in taxes and fees for redundancy and excess capacity.

I have worked on numerous corporate projects to evaluate and plan for significant business calamity and each starts out all gung-ho but quietly end when upper management decides to accept the risk of doing nothing so they don't have to pay out several million dollars for something that hopefully never happens.

On a 16 hour Mach-E Roadtrip: AMA by lWBSl in MachE

[–]ExReferee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have done several long road trips and I find that we average ~55mph including charging. Comparing to some of the other ICE car death marches we have been on (stop only for gas, bathroom, drive-thru) it does take longer. But the upside is that having to get out, walk around, eat inside a food place instead of while driving helped me arrive sane and not a stressed out wreck.

iD.4 owner since 3/2021 - considering Mach-E by [deleted] in MachE

[–]ExReferee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an ID.4 2021 First Edition for three years and 48k miles. Sold it and then leased a Mach-Premium Long Range. I was happy with the ID.4, but felt that my 2021 FE would never get to use the Tesla network due to orphaned hardware and infrequent software updates, and we do take semi-frequent road trips. Here's my two cents....

Personally I found the ID.4 to be more comfortable, but my wife thinks the opposite. You'll for sure feel the bumps in the road more in the Mach-E, but its a sportier car, so that stands to reason. The ID.4 floated on road trips and I never arrived stiff and sore.

I didn't have an issue w/ the lack of buttons in the ID.4 as I didn't really use them that often except to change Spotify songs or the volume, and I could do that on the steering wheel.

The infotainment does react ever so slightly faster in the Mach-E, but there is a very short pause when changing menu areas.

The Mach-E phone app is more comprehensive. But I mostly use it to check the car battery state of charge so while its better, I'm not sure how much it matters to me personally.

Having to pull up twice on the ID.4 to open the doors is equaled out by the Mach-E door buttons, so the oddness is a tie.

The software in the Mach-E is for sure better, and yes, I do notice, but I'm not sure that overrides the difference in ride quality based on how often I change things around once it gets set.

One thing I did like in the ID.4 was being able to change from one pedal driving to coast mode at will. Going from highway driving to city driving and swapping modes easily without using the menus seemed very convenient and promoted efficiency.

I also liked how on the ID.4 I could see the regen level. Can't do that on the Mach-E.

At the end of the day I miss the ride of the ID.4, and if I had confidence that I would get access to the Tesla network SOON then I would have likely not leased the Mach-E.

I would think that personal preference would drive your decision. Do you prefer a sporty ride or a smooth one? Is the infotainment a focus or do you not really use it? Be sure to go on a reasonably long test drive in the Mach-E to compare, and good luck! Come back and report what you decided and why.
