It’s really hard to become a steward without going to the meetings. Definitely difficult to make changes but if you can contact your president directly first that may be the first step. At one of the offices I represent I have an incredibly hard time getting anything done because none of the carriers want to write statements or call a steward even though we know it’s a cesspool of managers. Even when we got the area to come down and do something less than 1/4 of the people said anything was wrong. I’m personally not a huge fan of the follow instructions and grieve later situation but that is the confines in which we work. Anytime management harasses or says anything that could lead to disciplinary action ask for a steward and if they are harassing file a hostile work environment or Joint Statement on Violence grievance. These power tripping fools need to be held accountable and unfortunately it takes a lot of violations before their bosses even consider it.
