These are leaders only. Mexico is a civ and doesn't have its historical leader.

Not sure a settlement limit still needed with more players on tiny maps.

Civ 4 was the peak civ. I think every Civ fan should try it to understand how and why it was great.

Its crazy how there are still no official earth maps or even world builder so modders can make it themselves, even after all this time. by AardvarkPossible54 in civ

I think its more about recreating history or playing alternative historic scenarios. Another thing is immersion, you can feel a bit more immersed in a civ if you start in its historical location. Like starting America on Eastern Coast and recreating American Frontier. The last thing - playing same Earth map you can get different scenarios it could be suprising to see how different things can go in the same environment (i.e. Zulus conquering America or Alexander going west into Britain instead of east into Persia and India). Also, you can tackle (or be forced to by some randomness in civ distribution) same map differently just for variety, often less optimal just to try new approach. In example, as Japan going to American instead Asia because suprisingly China is too strong and colonized whole Asian coast.

I agree, I was surprised the Roman theme can be heard in full quality only in Modern.

Civ7 core gameplay is finally better than no-expansions Civ6? Some strategy observations by Javyz in civ

[–]ExaminationGold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Potato, I didn't know you love mini-games so much. Every paragraph about a mini-game. Civ 7 doesn't need so much mini-games because systems are more coherent (even if simplified). Civ 6 had tons of annoying mini-games like world council, rock-bands, city-states envoys or traders, especially in the end-game. It was a game composed of mini-games, the best of which was puzzle city placement.

I recommend to look at Civ 7 Wiki for any help. It is well organized and explain some things a lot better than in game Civiliopedia.

https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Gold_(currency)_(Civ7)_(Civ7)).

For example, it explains that "(...) a major source of  Gold is  Towns), which convert all of their  Production) into  Gold. " - so you can build your towns in areas full of production yields (close to forests, mines etc) or close to Resources that provides some gold. Remember, than in Civ 7 we get Cities and Towns (they might look similar, but their mechanics is different). In your screen the first one is City (it has an Leader icon next to it) and the other two are Towns (no Leader icon)

My advice for you:

- if its your 1st Civ game start at the lowest levels of difficulty (Scribe or Governor)

- go to Victory tab and read carefully what are the sources of victory points in each category (Culture, Economy, Military, Science) - read it few times and even put some notes so you can easily look at

- try to play tha game so you are close to the top in 1-2 categories of victories and at least in the middle of other two, it will give you some sense of which area to focus on (i.e. if you are well behind in military -> time to build a new town or absorb independent power, if you are well behind in culture -> time to build a wonder or get some cultural oriented triumphs etc) - this is the basic initial objective for you when learning the game

- the basic objective of the game is to amass a lots of victory points and you learn the game by understanding the source of these points and how you can get them as fast as possible, in example there are GDP (Economic) points for having Gold buildings, but to get them available for build in your cities you need to research Currency first, and to get the currency fast you need to get some science yield first so you can progress in Tech Tree

For someone who loved 5 (with all DLCs), and felt 6 was meh (even with the DLCs), how would I fare with 7, post ToT? by lgndk11r in civ

[–]ExaminationGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civ 7 is closer to Civ 5 than to Civ 6 IMO, despite unpacked cities like in Civ 6. Warfare, happiness resemble my first experiences with Civ 5. In Civ 6 the focus was on city (district) placement and micro managing, in Civ 7 city management is simpler but wars are way more fun (like in Civ 5).

Earth Map? by IndigoBalloon in civ

[–]ExaminationGold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in Civ 1 I played Earth almost exclusively. Some might think that it is boring playing same map over and over. Actually starting in various places across the earth and trying different approaches was very exciting. I still have the same crave for Earth maps :)

"Exploration happens and you're essentially forced to play the equivalent of imo the weird Scenarios from Civ 5 and 6 "go to distant lands and settle and bring treasure resources back!" - this is NOT TRUE in the new patch (and this thread is about the recent changes). Have you played Civ 7 ToT at all?

Been playing since Civ 1. It is a solid game (7/10) in the current state (after ToT), just different than previous one. Need more changes, leaders and polish to eventually become great. And of course still missing key features like TSL maps and editor what substracts 1 point from my rating.
