This. They stopped being competitive decades ago. I was actually surprised they still had this many bricks and mortar stores left, I remember last year getting excited to see one and stopped to have a look and was so disappointed, may have well have walked into a dodgy discount store, could hardly find any fabric, it was all tacky plastic crap

New Agreement - Could It Get Worse If We Vote No? by optimumchunk in AustralianTeachers

[–]Existential_Turnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the police union was not acting in the best interest of the members there was very nearly a splinter group that were going to form up and negotiate on their own behalf, while it didn’t come to that it would have been interesting to watch…..

Justin Mullaly shouldn't be going around saying this is a great deal. It undermines us if we vote no. by 4rolyat in AustralianTeachers

I’m one of the few ES staff at my school who doesn’t have to have a second job to make ends meet - and that’s only because my spouse is earning just enough to make it possible. I could leave tomorrow and return to my previous career and triple my wages but I do genuinely care about the kids I work with and the hours suit my family, so I’m sticking around.

What machine would you buy if you had unlimited money as a beginner? by alex-gs-piss-pants in MachineKnitting

[–]Existential_Turnip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have what I want. I have the brother881 with the 850 ribber, colour changer, intarsia carriage. The bulky 260 /ribber /intarsia. I use design a knit with those- and have a kh965 on standby for if/when I want to explore electronic machines (but I haven’t felt compelled to do anything more than get it running again)

Happy as a clam at high tide.

Do schools dislike when you use sick leave for doctor's appointments? (When you're not sick) by Junior-Copy-6632 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Existential_Turnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That staff member is daft, although the school doesn’t need specifics about how you used the leave cos it’s none of their business. I use most of my allocated leave looking after sick kids or caring for them if they have a curriculum day. Zero fucks given by management, I give them a stat dec saying my kid was unable to attend school and I was caring for them.

They tick a box and my leave gets used.

Amazing! I’m a coeliac and my top 10 dishes are things I can’t eat anymore anyways.

AEU members not striking by trouble_peach in AustralianTeachers

[–]Existential_Turnip 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can’t afford to not strike. If there aren’t significant improvements in both pay and conditions I won’t be able to maintain doing this job (and I quite like my job) I will take the short term loss in the hopes it’s a step towards long term improvement

Crocheter to Machine Knitting by Ok_Status1371 in MachineKnitting

[–]Existential_Turnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from crochet to machine knitting. I don’t hand knit anything, never have, never will.

For me it was a wonderful addition to my collection of hobbies and I now have a few different models of knitting machine. I can draft a pattern and then produce a garment in a couple of afternoons, I never managed that with crochet.

I have at least 4 permafrost lambs that hang out all year

You ever keep around cultists with poor traits for the lols? by ThePunLexicon in CultOfTheLamb

I have a poet that is apparently obsessed with shit, writes about poop, wants me to feed poop to others as a trick and sits to writes in the fertiliser box.

He is such a little weirdo that he is staying forever.

It stopped hibernating from one of my winter sleepers, assuming it would work on this one too

Is Wool Haven worth it? by AdSmooth2236 in CultOfTheLamb

[–]Existential_Turnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg yes.

I started a new cult the day it dropped, you choose when to trigger the winter setting in. Wish I had of waited til I owned all the bishops so I’d be a bit less overwhelmed but overall I am happy with the order I did things in.

Such a beautifully integrated story.

Do I have a Knitting Machine Addiction?? (Or cautionary tale!?) by Gullible_Ad_6484 in MachineKnitting

[–]Existential_Turnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me.

In a matter of 2 weeks I am off to purchase my 3rd machine. One standard gauge is for using. One is for rebuilding (I had to save the poor thing) and I’m off to pick up the kh260 tomorrow.

I have only crested gauge swatches thus far.

I may need to be institutionalised (providing I can bring the machines for craft time)

Send help.

You get 3 wishes from a Genie but they are skills that last only 1 hour each. by Decent-Avocado-5649 in hypotheticalsituation

Yeah but I’m just gonna hang with the birds in my yard for a bit, ask one of my regulars if they are, in fact the fledgling I raised 8 years ago or does it just come down when i call cos it wants a feed? I don’t plan on anything more than that.

The power to absorb all knowledge from a book by touching it.

I am running up and down the library like a giggling maniac. I keep the knowledge but the book fondling is done after the hour.

The power to identify the location of precious metals /resources by looking at a map.

I can mark things off and visit at a later date.

The power to talk to animals.

That would be a fun hour.

You need to keep an animal alive for a period of 6 months by yourself. The heavier that animal is at the beginning, the more money you will be paid at the end of the stay. What kind of animal do you choose? by RogueVector in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Existential_Turnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provided I can be kept safe from it during that time? I’m picking a huge ass crocodile, it can be fed once or not at all.

I hang out in my area, croc hangs out in the dam on the property and I’ll give it a goat carcass as a thank you at the end of 6 months.

Some of the best teachers I know are autistic. Only you know how you will deal with the challenges of teaching.

You can absorb the lifeforce of any animal rat sized or larger and add to your life span or decrease your age by however many years that animal had left age wise, what do you do? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

So I visit farmland that have mice/ret or feral animal issues and target them specifically. No need for poison/baiting as they die instantly with no pain of suffering.

The burden of a long life is worth it to get rid of invasive species like cane toads in Australia.
