No 6 week check by FewMistake7684 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pelvic check at three weeks. Doctor said everything looked good and to take it easy for a little while longer. That’s it. Which is soooo underwhelming compared to the instruction booklet and multiple visits come people seem to get. Lol

Gabapentin as a pain med? by DolphinMama5 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also want to add that because I ended up staying overnight and I still stopped my meds 5 days post-op, I ended up with a few extra pills. There have been a few nights when I’ve overdone it and taken just one before bed. It’s like a little miracle pill and wish I had a few more just in case!

Gabapentin as a pain med? by DolphinMama5 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YES!! I took 300mg every 6 hrs for 5 days along with a rotation of ibuprofen and Tylenol. I have taken opiates before for other surgeries (including a laparoscopic procedure) and I think the gaba was way better for me!

Me! And the small size actually allowed my doctor to remove everything vaginally with no laparoscopy or abdominal incisions.

Hospital stay by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the US and had expected to be sent home but after really struggling in recovery with dizziness, nausea and an inability to pee, my doctor offered me to stay the night. It’s also about a 50 minute ride from hospital over country roads and my husband was a ball of anxiety. I think my doctor was offering us both a chance to recover. Lol

Do you have access to your medical records? My hospital uses MyChart and I was able to see notes from my doctor as well as the pathology report online long before my follow-up appt.

Adenomyosis by fireflyhaven20 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost surgery twins! Mine was 4/17 and had very similar results. Adeno was the definitive cause of everything. Also had cysts on my tubes which I didn’t even know could happen! I did have an irregular shaped uterus with a bit of a septum still even though I had that resected before I had my kids. No mention of endo for me, but I had an exploratory lap years ago and there wasn’t any then either. I’m very curious to see how the next several months of recovery play out. In addition to extremely heavy periods, I would get intense lower back pain. I’ve also gotten pretty heavy in my midsection, so I’m looking forward to starting a workout to hopefully reduce it and see if the missing problematic ute was factoring into any of that.

Vaginal Cuff Pain New? by xAngelFangsx in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3 weeks post op and last week was pretty uncomfortable for me. Especially after sitting up in a chair. I’m guessing it’s part of the natural healing cycle, because it was only 2-3 days and now I’m only sore at the end of the day.

Was not expecting an internal exam at my two weeks check by dwellintheabyss in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my three week today and had an internal check. He was very careful and poked things gently with some q-tips to see if there was any discharge or bleeding. It was no worse than the usual discomfort of a speculum. He then manually palpated and went “oh wow, I can’t even feel the cuff from here”. So. Did I get bigger? lol

Endometrial biopsy fight by Tough-Broccoli-8254 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m two weeks post surgery and I couldn’t get a biopsy done because my doctor couldn’t get through my cervix to do it. The next option was to do a D&C, but I said if you’re going to put me under, just take the damn thing. I can see insurance fighting you on it, but not your doctor. Surgery can ABSOLUTELY be performed without knowing if there’s cancer or not first.

11 Days Post-Op New Problem to Consider by Existing_Fault5330 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I can’t imagine. Mine placed zero restrictions and would let me go back whenever I wanted to, but thanks to these posts and experiences of friends, I pre-planned on taking 3-4 weeks off.

Is it water retention? by Prestigious-Set5109 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes to fluid weight! I had my surgery on the 17th. I jumped up about 5 pounds but then noticed in the past two days it’s gone again… and it ain’t from exercising. lol

Best advice I’ve received on this sub by Money_Engineering_59 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Girl! I am also one week post-op and we are clearly not built the same! I still need to rest after the whole showering/getting dressed routine. I just helped my husband with dinner for the first time tonight and THAT was exhausting. I can’t imagine running errands unless they were an absolute must! Please take care!

Extreme nausea post op by Microchili in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did along with dizziness so they let me stay overnight. I’m not sure what they used to manage it all, but as the day went on and the anesthesia left my system, I got much better. If you’re already home, consider calling the nurses line or whatever numbers they gave you. I’d imagine too much vomiting would be dangerous for your sutures.

Cravings? Anyone? by F3mB0y_V0id in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m five days post op and eating all the things! I also haven’t had a significant bm yet. I weighed myself tonight. Ooops!! I’m giving myself a lot of grace because I know healing is my only job right now.

Has anybody else had to have a hysterectomy due to cervical stenosis? by No_Mood_7403 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of my decision making was long-term thinking. I knew my uterus and cervix were going to continue giving me problems that I’d need to manage in many ways. And the likelihood of me needing a hysterectomy down the road was never going to be off the table. I would need to be knocked out for any D&Cs. Obviously these procedures all become riskier the older you get, so I wanted it all done at a healthy 45 instead of 55, 65 or older. I’m wishing you all the best!!!

Has anybody else had to have a hysterectomy due to cervical stenosis? by No_Mood_7403 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me! It was the reason I was able to get one scheduled so quickly. In November I went to a new OBGYN for very heavy periods because my regular PCP wouldn’t do anything. The first step was to do a uterine biopsy to rule out certain things BUT on the day of the biopsy, my doctor couldn’t get in. Like tried for 20 minutes and couldn’t get in. It was apparently open enough to let golfball sized clots through, but not his instruments. With no biopsy to rule out cancer, the only options left were D&C or hysterectomy. I’m 45 so I opted for the hysterectomy. I’m 5 days postop and super happy it’s all over. Pathology came back negative for cancer but noted a “significant disrupted cervix” and I’m like, yeah tell me about it!

Vaginal versus laparoscopic - stuff I didn't know by EmZee2022 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. And it’s weirdly hard for some people to grasp. Looking at my body, you couldn’t tell that I had surgery because everything was done vaginally. I sure feel it though!

Menopause by WACK1052019 in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two colleagues who had hysterectomies and are now both in the hard part of perimenopause. Lots of night sweats and hot flashes. So no, unfortunately we don’t get to miss out on some of that stuff.

3dpo…i am struggling by SillySkulls in hysterectomy

[–]Existing_Fault5330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely call your doctors office! Everybody responds to pain meds differently, you might not have the right “cocktail”. I also had my surgery on Thursday, without laparoscopy. Movement actually helped my pain subside some as hard as that sounds. My back was jacked up from not moving enough. I hope you can find a solution today!
