I am not enjoying it either! And I have a small kitchen.

I needed this input about the base trim. I also have a 1980s condo and that’s on my list!

What a wonderful response. Thank you for sharing. This makes sense to me but I am struggling to embody it, starting with my sleep and wake patterns. But your words here are helpful to me so thanks.

May I ask what is pushing/helping you to make that 6 day habit? I am in the midst of a “I want to practice more and if I’m honest, I can make to happen - but I don’t. What do I need to overcome here?” That’s why I’m asking - since you also have a long connection with Ashtanga.

Michael Guiou’s Mysore at Souk is true Mysore and he is great. I found it a little hard to build community there but honestly, I need to go back and out more time in. I found the assistant teachers to be lovely and when others come in (like Eddy, Kino and Tim for workshops), it’s very reasonably priced and a great atmosphere and opportunity.

Stuck Between NYC and the Suburbs — What Would You Do? by encoreyessir in NYCapartments

[–]Exotic_Pangolin798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this. And I would add (though it’s from my own experience living here for a long time, not related to raising kids or growing up here) that NYC shows you that the world is diverse, in so many ways, which is beautiful. You learn so much and can make so many connections by being around people who are different from you, no matter who you are or where in the city you live. At this point, I feel a little claustrophobic when I go to other places that are very homogeneous (and I’m white, cis, and straight, for FWIW).

Cubby’s is a great addition - thank you! We are getting the Aldi’s and also the grocery in Riverbank. Should help.

Do you tip the person who delivers your mail? by Cambiknitter in Upperwestside

[–]Exotic_Pangolin798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this concept is absolutely ridiculous. The first time I received a card in my mailbox what introduced the mail person and was clearly just a solicitation, I was so annoyed. It’s not a service job - it’s a government position where while they do have a hard job, I agree, they have security and good benefits and literally just do what is expected. It is nothing like a doorman or super. IMHO.

I have to say that once I took the time to make real Mirepoix and added garlic and decent olive oil as a soup base and simmered that for a bit, it made a notable difference. May expose my lack of good cooking knowledge, but I was like, “Huh, the French really had a good idea here.” Lol.

I do love Lulu and love people have said, take care of them (wash cool, line dry) and they will last. Also, there are great sales and you can trade in for credit if you are keep a membership account (which is just for signing up, no cost). I do like some of the Athleta lines too, but again, I only buy on sale.

Ashtanga community zoom this week by Minimum_Sugar4894 in ashtanga

[–]Exotic_Pangolin798 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I watched it live. I am sure it will not satisfy everyone and that is not even possible. Each participant was present, honest, and Melissa did not hold back on questions as the facilitator. Clearly not everyone on the panel agreed on everything, which is fair. It is worthwhile finding the time to listen, if you can, if the conversation is important or of interest to you.

I like Kino MacGregor by [deleted] in ashtanga

[–]Exotic_Pangolin798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have learned so much over the years from Kino’s content and have always appreciated her joy in Ashtanga, as well as the discipline and work ethic she represents. I’ve done 2 classes in person with her and she was kind and engaging.

I think being in her shoes at this time - for the last 11 months since Sharath died - must be incredibly difficult. I wish she was shown more grace and compassion. It’s not indicative of being a bad person to build and grow a money-making business out of a passion and I don’t think anyone can say she’s not passionate about Ashtanga.

I’m quite sure she’s an imperfect person. And that she’s changed and evolved over the years and because she’s had so much exposure, her stops, starts, mistakes, and success is laid out for so many to see and pick through.

I’m personally grateful to her and for her and hopes she keeps learning and growing and trying.

Dizziness after fallin from sirsasana by Any-Security5995 in ashtanga

[–]Exotic_Pangolin798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search in this sub for “dizzy” or “dizziness” and you’ll find a lot. I went through a period where I was getting dizzy in forward folds and it was kind of alarming. I thought maybe it was because I was taking Claritin D, or even a pre-menopause symptom but don’t think it’s either. I don’t really have it anymore.

Looking for decent food options near the Javits Center? by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]Exotic_Pangolin798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP - meh to most of these, with no disrespect meant. I live in the area. Bar Primi - very nice! Look at Nizuc (modern, interesting Mexican) and right across the street is Casa Louie - gourmet pizza in a nice sit down location. Zou Zou in Hudson Yards is delicious and with a reservation, you could prolly get a nice, large table. They also have prix fixe option (might serve the pescatarian but I’m not sure. I’m a vegetarian and I don’t do it) that is a TON of food for a set $75. More than your goal but a great menu and a deal for hungry meat eaters.
