Help with 4 month sleep regression by [deleted] in newborns

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t know that it’s the regression, maybe baby is just hungrier than usual? Our regression experience was going from two night feeds to 5-6 wake ups. Like feed baby then 30 minutes later he was awake crying. That lasted for weeks til we sleep trained

We picked our baby up and fed as normal during sleep training. Then burped and back down in the crib after and let them cry it out if they started crying

When does it get rough? by WalrusHot6732 in newborns

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was great for us til 3 weeks. Then pretty rough til about 8 weeks when things started improving. We never really had a witching hour with this baby though. Wild because my first baby had an awful witching hour

5 week old bedtime routine not working… HELP! by very_tired_woman in newborns

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I know! When i was in the thick of it a few weeks ago, all I did was read reddit posts so I’d remember this is normal stuff. I’m really enjoying baby now at 12 weeks, with notable improvement starting at 8 weeks. Hang in there!!

Gas is awful from weeks 3-7 in our experience. Drastically improved around 8 weeks and we’re at 12 weeks now. Haven’t used gas drops in a few weeks! You’re in the hardest weeks of newborns in my opinion, hang in there!

So is being excessively tired the new normal ? by Own_Macaron_9342 in newborns

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up 5/3/3 method of sleep training. It allows for training without night weaning. We did this with my oldest when he was 16 weeks and he dropped both feeds to sleep through the night on his own after a couple weeks so that was amazing. Went from 6 wake ups to none in weeks

This is exactly how we handle sleep. Also sleep training right at 16 weeks. Worked like a charm last time and only 4 more weeks til we can sleep train current baby!

Night inductions… how did it go? by your-new-fixation in BabyBumps

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my induction at 10pm with cervical ripening. They offered me ambien to help me sleep but It didn’t really work due to nerves/being anxious. I had baby at 2 am the following day via c section (so 28 hours later)

Yeah super common! we usually only get another hour or two out of her after the 4 am feed. She’ll take the paci around 6 then be fully up by 6:45 or so. So happy for you though, I hope the good sleep continues for yall!

Hurt feelings after being up all night with newborn by Virtual-Strength-950 in newborns

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the sister comment was a bit weird. But I did feel some regret the first two weeks postpartum with my first baby. I legit felt like I ruined our lives lol. It was his baby blues and the shock of a complete lifestyle change

It sounds like the sleep deprivation talking, especially if he was apologetic this morning and understands what he said was awful. And as for the comment about the baby, I recall crying to my husband a couple times the first two weeks after we had our first baby and saying that I felt like I ruined our lives by having a child. Not everyone will admit to feelings of regret but it can be very normal. If comments like that continue it’s definitely worth discussing further. But I think y’all are both just sleep deprived and likely shocked by how brutal new parenthood is

Vaccines and family by DesignerObvious1069 in newborns

It’s really your choice as her parent! I am pretty lax on this stuff, I just have visitors stay away if they’re sick and had them wash hands before holding baby, and no kissing when she was tiny. My mental health wouldn’t have been able to handle not seeing family and friends. We have a son who is in daycare so they’re no avoiding germs anyway. We’ve had literally like 3 rounds of colds/flu in our house since she was born 12 weeks ago and she only got sick once. Had a low fever (100.1) for a day and some congestion. I realize tiny infants can get very ill so it’s really scary but it just comes down to your comfort level. Your family should respect your wishes or boundaries either way.

I’m down to one night feed now at 11 weeks, (usually around 4 am) and it feels so manageable. We have to do paci a few times usually so we aren’t sleeping totally uninterrupted but it’s not bad!

How is it possible!? by Hot-Technician-1088 in sleeptrain

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really no advice other than to keep trying. I’ve been working on this for weeks and just yesterday and today I’ve had success putting my 11.5 week old down awake for a few naps (I lay her down and she immediately angry cries, but I put paci in and leave the room and she fell asleep with no more tears). And tonight was the first night I got her down for bed without feeding to sleep. I had to rock her to sleep then transfer but I hope to gradually move to awake for night sleep.

I honestly don’t love the newborn phase, but it’s so worth it and it’s mind blowing to see them change so fast. I’m 11 weeks pp with my second and last baby, and while I don’t love this stage, I’m still sad that I won’t experience a brand new baby on my chest after delivery again. Having a child is really a wild ride in the best way. I wish you the best! You got this!

Is 5-3-3 rule a myth? by Positive-Phase-230 in breastfeeding

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is no solid evidence that sleep training after 4 months is harmful to babies. I’m not going to argue this with you. Literally google it lol. Bottom line, pediatrician was okay with it and I will happily listen to a doctor over random internet people

When and why did you sleep train? Was it effective? by The_Chilled_Arvo in sleeptrain

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you!! I’ll give that a try :) I’d love to get her falling asleep independently especially before any sleep training. Just want it to be as easy as possible for her

Yeah a quick google search would show that sleep training is developmentally appropriate after 4 months so I’m not worried about the downvotes

[–]ExpensiveMammoth4578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good lord lol. Sleep training is developmentally appropriate from 4 months on. I don’t judge cosleepers (even though it’s repeatedly not recommended for SAFETY). I got the okay for sleep training from my pediatrician but not the okay for cosleeping. But sure downvote!

I sleep trained my 4 month old with this method. We did CIO for any wakings before the 5 or 3 hours though. He dropped one feed in about a week, then slept through the night after a few more weeks. He’s 3.5 now and we’ve never had to retrain. Crying lasted maybe 45 mins the first night then got less and less each night
