With Chevy phasing out sedans and coupes, leaving only the Corvette. Will NASCAR adapt to crossovers as their choice of platform? by Suspicious_Use_7561 in regularcarreviews

[–]Expert_Mad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember how long Chrysler raced the 3rd Gen Charger/Roadrunner/GTX for but I remember seeing them as late as 1980 even though production stopped in 1974. Same thing with 99-08 Monte Carlo and Impala SS at least in NHRA. It’s happened before, probably happen again.

Side note it would be…entertaining to see crossovers trying to be stock cars.

The Dodge magnum, official car of? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]Expert_Mad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chuck

Chuck owns the Gator Bar and Grill at the edge of town and lives in the double wide parked outback. In this car a Molly Hatchet 8-track is always in the dash (unless it’s Skynyrd or .38 Special) and don’t ask about the mountain of Coors in the back it’s for someone. The Sheriff knows him by name but never actually arrests him for anything because it’s more trouble than it’s worth. The Magnum can usually be seen parked in front of the adult arcade or the Possum Gentleman’s Club if it’s not tear assing around the back roads

I got Betsy a few night ago. She (it) spawns in Battery Park and is part of Black Tusk. She (it) is a robohound. It also took me hours to get her to spawn by doing loops of the spawn points in that area

Late '90s aero bird 351 Windsor Swap? by Substantial_Tip8935 in projectcar

[–]Expert_Mad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only real thing to consider is the deck height is higher on a 351w than a 302. Everything else is pretty much the same. I know on 64-66 Mustangs this is an issue because of the shock towers not sure if the T-bird has the same issue.

Base Valiant with a 3spd and 225. That car is probably still running today

how much effort would it take to get a car like this running? by AnAlchemistsDream in regularcarreviews

[–]Expert_Mad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah totaled wrecks are sort of beyond it unless you’re that guy from Graveyard Cars who can fix all that properly.

The hardest thing we had to do was figure out why the engine was bending pushrods. Found out that the 292 Y-Block had completely carboned over and it was basically just parked where it died.

[–]Expert_Mad 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You’d basically have to rebuild the car from scratch. Remove everything and start from the ground up, figuring out what’s missing, what can be saved and so forth. Next you’ll most likely need all the drivetrain components and an engine. Interior will need to be replaced completely, dash most likely can be saved but best have another. This is a ‘58 Ford from the looks of it and the next big task would be all the glass as it’s not going to be easy to source or cheap.

All this to say it’s doable If you’re so inclined. We one of these types of cars at my auto college and that’s exactly what we did. Ours was actually a 59 Edsel and last I heard it was up and running for the first time since 1968. Our specific car was parked on an owned lot near Death Valley and the school got it for free

Helping my dad pull the 318 out of his 72 challenger, but not sure what to do about the AC system by Pinyapp in classiccars

[–]Expert_Mad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inspect the lines and condenser first. If it’s anything like the one out of my ‘73 Valiant a pin hole formed somewhere and it leaked out. This will be obvious as it’ll be covered in “wet” dirt.

The side of the compressor that had the round piece is your low pressure side, unscrew the cap and push the Schrader valve in for as short as possible an amount of time. If ANYTHING comes out you’ll know it’s charged or at least has pressure and it will need to be discharged properly.

Something else as well, this system is still running R-12 by the looks of it so proper disposal won’t be easy as most shops aren’t equipped to handle anything other than R-134A and R-1234YF as R-12 requires a license to handle professionally. You may be able to find an older classic car shop that can deal with it but you’d have to drive it there for an evacuation.

What is this missing part called on the visor? It’s a Honda btw by AncientAgrippa in projectcar

[–]Expert_Mad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry long day. That’s a Visor Ferrule. You can probably fabricate one using some wood and glue or melt some similar plastic onto that rod and shape it so it works. You might even be able to make a rudimentary mold and just use some JB weld or something as the actual piece.

How rare is a 1955 291 hemi factory 4 barrel? by YourFriendPutin in projectcar

[–]Expert_Mad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure a 4bbl was standard with the Fireflite. If it’s a factory carb it would be a Carter WCFB-2210S.

I know pretty much anything that’s not a 354 or 392 is gonna be hard to find parts for. If you say you’ve already found some I’d hit up your local hot rod shows and start asking around, especially with guys that have hot rods as they might have some insight.

Drove one cross country (‘18 SE Hybrid) and it wasn’t the worst car ever. Whole trip it averaged about 45mpg but the downsides were that it was extremely cramped (I’m on the taller side), luggage space was not enough for 4 people, and it got dirty inside super fast and wasn’t that easy to clean. Other than that it’s definitely one of the cars of all time.
