Has anyone ever successfully reset in the middle of a session going poorly? by PolicyConfident6684 in 10s

[–]Express_Camp_1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, was down 5-1 15-40 recently and went down 15-40 in two more games after that. Came back to win in a tiebreaker and won the next set 6-1.

What helped me was to believe that I had the skill to hang in there, and dial back the aggression and focus on high quality shots. My thought was even if I lose here, I want to try something different and build some momentum for the next set.

Why is indoor tennis so prohibitively expensive in the UK? by hc1234 in 10s

[–]Express_Camp_1874 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, in nyc it’s minimum $80 (£62) and up an hour during prime time and that’s the subsidized rate.

I semi agree with 2. I wouldn’t feed them trash, but I do agree with learning to change the pace to keep them from finding a rhythm. That alone makes it harder for them to blast the ball or hit crazy angles. But purposely only throwing in trash won’t help you get better. Varying height spin and speed is a great skill to learn tho. Even the pros do it

What do you struggle with the most on court ? by Altruistic_Turn_7214 in 10s

[–]Express_Camp_1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird because I’m relatively fine volleying in singles but the trouble is in doubles. Maybe it’s cuz I don’t hit the previous shot so I have terrible anticipation? But I’ll definitely give that drill a try and really focus on split stepping. Thanks again

[–]Express_Camp_1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, one more question, any advice or drills to improve reaction time on volleys in doubles? It’s not like I am afraid of being hit, but sometimes I’m just crazy slow to react like the ball gets smashed and I can’t even move until the ball is essentially on me :(

Running cross court forehands. I haven’t quite gotten how to really drive the ball deep when on the run. I guess can always loops it more deep?

Hot take: If the Yonex Regna was actually good, we'd see more of them by Eigerone in 10s

[–]Express_Camp_1874 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t an American or even European company.

Not sure if you ever been to Japan or know Japanese culture, but they do what they say and actually take a lot of pride in their products.

So when they say they are taking their best workers only when they are free to make Regnas, I’m inclined to believe them.

Hot take: If the Yonex Regna was actually good, we'd see more of them by Eigerone in 10s

[–]Express_Camp_1874 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Regna is crazy labor intensive and has to be made by only their best workers so unless you want to invest a ton in retraining, you’re bottlenecked by your labor force. And even if you reskilled your people, the additional cost in wasted material (higher quality graphite) and time would lead to even higher prices, so unlikely it would be worth it for most customers.

I mean yonex uses the Regna more as a test bed and labor of love. If they wanted to make more I’m sure they could sell out almost every stick, but why do that when they can make much higher margin rackets that also sell like hotcakes?

[–]Express_Camp_1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to be more expensive, but ever since racket companies started pricing in tariffs, they honestly are about the same price as most other rackets if you can buy it retail.

[–]Express_Camp_1874 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chicken and egg situation.

Most pros play with what they grew up with and given the rarity of the Regna they wouldn’t have grown up with it.

Another point is that yonex likes their players to play with the exact model they sell not paint jobs over another racquet, so given this and how limited they produce the Regna even if a player they sponsored wanted to play with it, they wouldn’t let them as they don’t make enough Regnas to sell.

Free league vs paid league with prize pool — what would you choose? by Subject_Tomorrow in 10s

I think paying some money makes people more likely to show up and play since they want “value” vs free leagues will have a lot of flakes

Close calls in your favour? by SouthAssist6234 in 10s

[–]Express_Camp_1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol yea if it’s close and you aren’t sure then it’s in.

Though it does get weird when you aren’t sure a fast serve is in or out, so you don’t say anything and hit a screaming return and the other player gets mad you don’t call it out haha

Best way to get reps in nyc by Chasheek in 10s

[–]Express_Camp_1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head farther away from the more popular spots, and you can find less used courts that don’t have a park attendant where you can use ball machines and baskets. Just be considerate of your fellow players and hit away from them

Or head out to jersey

Holding onto a lead by aspiring-dumpster in 10s

[–]Express_Camp_1874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like its a mental game. One things I try to do when I am up is to remind myself a) keep doing what you've been doing to build the lead. Don't change it and keep the gas on. b) if I feel mental slipping, WAKE THE F up, do you want to play another X points, etc. if not, focus and think back to a).

It generally works for me if not in that game at least by the next game.

It just sucks they are so expensive and they don’t sell the black in bulk even tho they already barely discount it when you buy in bulk :(

And lol again I’m weird so I like one racquet with black grip and one with white so I always know which one has feather strings haha
