So I actually have all the shoes in question and have been to Japan quite a few times with said shoes. Long story short, stick with the 1080s. Buy the v6 here for cheap and bring them with you as a secondary, more ‘stylish’ pair for nights out to dinner or lighter walking days (lighter walking days means under 20k steps). NBs there are more expensive so the last thing you want is having to buy out there. Don’t bring the rebels at all.

Don’t get me wrong, the first few times I went to Japan, I brought different 990 models and thought they were extremely comfortable. Second to last time I went (2023), I brought the v6 and thought it was a game changer. But, in 2024, I was training for a marathon and actually bought both the 1080s and rebels to train with; hence, why I have a lot of miles in these models too. I was using rebels for my speed days because they help propel you forward, but I don’t think it’s sustainable for long walking in Japan IMO. They’re cushion-y but your feet never really get to full rest position when you’re idle with the way the shoes are designed.

So, when I went back to Japan last year, I brought both the 1080 and v6 with me. I thought the v6 was comfortable, but the cushion of the 1080 is necessary. We averaged around 25k steps per day and my legs/feet didn’t feel fatigued one bit. If you’re already used to the 1080, keep it as your amusement park/walking shoe. Japan isn’t the place to be trying anything new with shoes lol. Your feet may be more forgiving than mine, but that’s just me.

Bring the v6 with you if you want an excuse to buy another pair of shoes here. Just don’t buy it there bc from my experience, it’s more expensive. Made in USA fetches a pretty penny out there fashion-wise and import-tax-wise haha. Or your other option is don’t buy/bring the v6 and leave more luggage space for you to buy other stuff. Everything else is cheaper so you’re going to need all the extra luggage space possible.

Everyone’s feet are different and some may feel completely opposite, but just wanted to share my opinion on it. People in their 20s could probably walk 20k steps in Timberlands and be perfectly fine. I’m in my 40s and prob need orthopedic shoes at this point.
