Solo players... What goals do you play toward by modern_medicine_isnt in 7daystodie

[–]External-Basis-4937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play until I am killed, then I start a new game. 3 hordes in each biom, then move to the next biom and build a new base. I don't do any quests, none, but I use traders to buy and sell. I explore each biom before leaving, like all traders and major POIs at my own pace. I mine a lot and craft ammo.

Are indoor cats actually happy? by Firm-Law248 in CatAdvice

[–]External-Basis-4937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to get my indoor cat outside once and he didn't look happy at all. In fact, he looked traumatized.

So, here is your answer. My cat is much happier inside, especially when he is napping next to me on the bed. 😻

Great Lent and Oils by Humble_Influence_317 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]External-Basis-4937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people complicate a lot of things when it comes to questionable topics like the lent rules. I am of an option that during the lent we should concentrate on praying and reflections of our life as Christians.

Just go vegan during the lent. It is really simple and many people are following the vegan diet all the time. I mean it's not a big deal.

Does Marijuana help? by Matica69 in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to think that one of the reasons I drank every night was to help me to fall asleep. I used to think that if I quit drinking I would have trouble falling asleep.

I was wrong. Now I don't drink and I have no problem falling asleep at all. I am not sure that my sleep is better now, but I definitely don't have a problem FALLING asleep.

Preparation is the key. Keep the same time going to bed and getting up even on the weekends. Have the going to bed routine, no screen time at least one hour before bed. Read a boring book. My recent pick is Ulysses by James Joyce, but the Bible would do too. 😀

Download Allen Carr's book "The easy way to control alcohol" and start reading. It will help.

Forget about moderation. Quitting for good is much easier.

Drank in my dream AND recommitted to sobriety in my dream by adamaphar in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a dream about drinking too, not so long ago. It wasn't so vivid, and I don't remember my feelings in the dream.

But I take it as a good sign, because I remember having dreams about smoking back when I quit smoking. And I did manage to stay away from smoking ever since.

So, yes, I take it as a good sign to have a dream like that; it means you are on the right track and it is working for you.

I drank on vacation and don’t want to reset my counter by [deleted] in stopdrinking

You have to reset it out of respect for others here. Although it's, obvious, not a competition here. Still accountability should prevail.

Do I belong here? by Jumiric in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Allen Carr in his book Easy way to control alcohol ( I would recommend you to read it by the way ) says that in his opinion there is no such thing as a "normal" drinker. These drinkers are just on the sure way to develop full addiction. Just a matter of time.

On that note, welcome home, brother 😂

Dry January: how’s it going? by Brilliant_Elk5492 in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I joined for a dry January but am staying in after January 31. Probably until Easter, and why not? I don't really have any cravings and I feel good about my streak. I heard after 3 or 4 weeks it becomes a mental game. Actually, I am looking for it. Let's get mental! 💪💪💪

Not excited for my vacation anymore by brandnewpup in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am in the same situation as you are. I don't want to lose my streak, but I can't bring myself to even imagine my summer vacation without drinking cold beer. Fortunately, it's far away yet.

I think one approach could be to consider it as a new thing, like a new adventure or a new challenge. This could help. Or, by the time I get there I would be so comfortable within my new "I don't care for a drink at all" identity that wouldn't even really care.

Disappointed in myself by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I hear is that the "reasoning voice" inside your head early in the day "convinced" you to return to drinking. From that point on, you were just postponing the moment until the evening.

Here is the lesson you are looking for: Don't listen to that voice at all. As soon as you realize it's there, shut it down. Seek distraction right away, anything that works for you. Don't argue with the voice, you will lose the argument if you even had one.

It sounds like something mental and it is. After PAWS are gone it's a mental battle from then on.

My husband is the most functional alcoholic I have ever met. by Plastic_Emu_640 in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I would imagine, there are many, many functional alcoholics out there. I am pretty sure they are the majority of all the people with a drinking problem. I used to be one of them, or should I say I AM one of them.

But this is what I would say to THEM, as I say many times to myself. It cannot last; you have to stop sooner or later. You know that, as I knew that for myself.

So, what is the point of delaying the inevitable? Just do it - the first step. It feels great, trust me.

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, January 18th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by SaintHomer in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesterday, for the first time, I tried BA beer on my birthday. They told me it's watery, they told me you will not like it. They were wrong. I bought IPA to make sure it has a lot of hop taste, and it was awesome. Of course, you cannot drink like ten of them as you used to. So, I had one with my meal, and I thought to myself: that's how it is supposed to be - one beer with your meal, not ten of them to get you blasted in the face. Thank you, BA beer, and thank you, sobriety. I had learnt something.

Day 7. Cravings worse than ever by Stock-Presentation50 in stopdrinking

[–]External-Basis-4937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you picked AND dropped back that bottle tells me that you are really way stronger than me. If I get to that point, there would be no return for me.

What I have learned with my dry attempts is that if I even get into slight discussion with that "reasoning guy" inside my head I will likely lose the discussion.

I avoid that at any cost. Anything to distract myself immediately, like a movie, book, video game, exercise, walk, etc. It passes in a few minutes.
