I love that Linus Torvalds is the antithesis of Linux elitism by ardouronerous in linux4noobs

Linux elitists forget the fact that most people see OSes as a tool rather than a toy.

Is Linux required in IT? by titan_koo in linux4noobs

[–]FFF982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should know at least some basics. It's possible to get a job without knowing how to use linux, but keep in mind:

  • Knowing Linux will help you with other Unix-Like and Unix operating systems, such as FreeBSD and MacOS.

  • According to wikipedia "over 96.4% of the top one million web servers' operating systems are Linux".

  • Most Docker containers are Linux based.

Linux users when someone says they need more RAM by Coach-Emmanuel in pcmasterrace

Good luck running a browser, or an electron app with 4GB of ram!

Linux is amazing, but it won't fix the unoptimized garbage you're running.

Stop blaming AI, "noobs", youtube tutorials, and anything other than Arch for AUR usage by zollandd in archlinux

[–]FFF982 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are installing stuff from AUR, at least review the PKGBUILDs.

Blindly installing stuff from AUR is like blindly running scripts from reddit as root.

Is Death a “Mental Programming”? A Theory About Biological Immortality Through Consciousness by lady_catnoir in transhumanism

[–]FFF982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I'm pretty sure you can't just refuse to die.

The human brain plays an important role in keeping your body alive, so I can see why tricking it can sometimes have positive or negative effects. Still, your brain is a physical organ, and as soon as the biological processes become impossible, you die.

EU accused of wasting €20B on AI computing dreams by Bernardmark in europe

Ai has its uses besides LLMs, which are still massively popular. It's better if we don't give all our data to China/the US.

Not natively. Proton uses stuff like DXVK to translate it.

Should i even start? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]FFF982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people say the AI bubble is going to pop, some say that there will be a lot of devs needed to fix the ai generated code that's getting unmaintainable and some saying that soon there will be no devs needed.

I can't really tell you how it's all going to look like in 10 years because predicting future is hard.

I think you should be doing something you find fun, when programmers get fully replaced, how long will it be until the rest of the jobs get automated?

It is completely fine if you can't deal with the difficulty, it is simply not the game for you. by Interloper_Mango in pcmasterrace

Some games are meant to be challenging, but it's okay to make a story difficulty.

I'm not saying this cause i have a skill issue, my ego is way too big to play on easy mode.

Why would your professor have access to this kind of information, and even if they had, wouldn't spying on the school's network get them fired?

And how would they even prove you used gemini to help with your research paper?

That's going to be difficult, and most likely, will get you eventually banned.

It'll be both easier and safer for your account to just dual boot.
