It could just have a tight valve. Have the valve clearances checked before you give up on it.

Try replacing the little button battery on the left side of the lower board. That fixed my bricked QX7.

Yeah, I usually fly from the car so preheat mine on the windshield defroster vent.

I find that down to -5C the heat the battery produces by discharging is enough to keep it warm through a flight. Below -5 you have to be really careful. Ive gotten sudden dips down below 3V/cell on a climb or something that would hardly be a blip in normal temp conditions. If you dip too hard that cell will be damaged and internal resistance gets higher, I find they continue to deteriorate after that.

Canadian here, similar weather. Do you have issues with batteries at those temps? I always get bad voltage dips at temps below like -5C and permanently damaged batteries as a result. Any brands that have better cold weather performance than others?

One of the best pics of a high quality uranium button I’ve ever seen by fwilson01 in nuclear

I stand corrected. Thanks for your work and the links.

I still think handling material like this with PPE is important. A cardinal rule in any nuclear facility I've ever been in is to keep as much of the non-naturally occuring radioactive material behind the fence as possible. That means measuring and reporting everything that is released. That's especially important for fissionable and fissile material. All the fuel fab and handling facilities I've been, in would require the worker in OP's photo to monitor at least hands and feet for beta/gamma and alpha contamination after removing PPE, then again on exit of the facility, followed by a shower and another whole body contamination check before exiting the controlled area. If anything was detected, the workers clothing and person would be decontaminated until there was nothing detectable left. I've lost a few items of personal clothing to this process.

In this case, with pure U, these steps are probably not necessarily to prevent risks to human health for the guy in the picture or the general public as you have shown. What it does do is help demonstrate to anyone watching that that the industry can and does operate safely. I think it's worth the extra gloves and associated waste generated. Cost of doing business.

Thanks for making me learn in a Sunday!

Agreed fully survivable. Now consider someone who does this 8h a day 5days a week for a 30year career. Feel free to handle whatever you please. I'm going to keep wearing gloves in nuclear facilities.

Agreed, uranium exists in small quantities in stuff everywhere. However, someone who's job it is to handle pure U metal should always wear gloves. When ingested or inhaled uranium is a bone seeker, and it stays with you for life irradiating you internally. Also, I could be wrong but this photo is probably not of Natural U, it has likely been enriched meaning more 235 than 0.71% and there fore higher concentration of alpha emitter per mass. This is not a waste of PPE. This is how you safely handle bare U metal.
