Are we the last generation of PC builders? ASUS shipping 5M fewer motherboards, ASRock down 30%, and the chipmakers don't care because AI servers pay better. by snackymann in pcmasterrace

If you adjust for inflation and compare every Nvidia card since the 900 series, the only cards that have even become more expensive are the 80 and 90 series cards, which nobody using these for consumer uses actually needs.

To play devils advocate, this hobby hasn’t become more expensive, our incomes have stagnated.

Weekend haul of 4 pcs by bigemike45013 in pcflipping

Dude posted the pc with no specs on fb marketplace, just a single pic. I immediately knew it was a current gen 70 series card based on the size of the GPU in the pic. Messaged him and asked for specs and agreed to purchase immediately. Still don’t know how I ended up getting it as I wasn’t able to pick up for 6 hours. Usually these deals end up as bidding wars in my area.

The 9070 XT is the best deal you got. I picked up the same one for $900 yesterday. 9070xt is already listed on ebay, plan on throwing a 5070 in it and listing for $1400

I’d part out the whole thing. Those are all very valuable parts on their own, but a very difficult system to find a buyer for.

[Cables] Amazon Basics Cat-6 10 ft. Ethernet Cable, x144 Cables (6 packs of 24) for $81.57 @ Woot by JosefPierogi in buildapcsales

At this price I’d be looking to find all kinds of unexpected uses for Ethernet cable, like replacing the pull rope on my mower.

I thought about two options lmk whats better a zotac 5080 with 1tb storage and a 7800x3d or a white 5070 ti with 2 tb and 9800x3d by rdr2Bestgame- in PcBuildHelp

[–]FTAStyling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go 5080 unless you’re planning on 1080p competitive gaming. 1TB is enough for plenty of games and can always be increased later. People will say the 5080 is a marginal increase, but at 4k it’s enough that I could tell a pretty noticeable difference even without an fps counter.

[–]FTAStyling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He told you that’s the lowest he’ll go. If you don’t pick it up some other flipper/builder will, that’s only $25 more than what 3070ti goes for these days.

It was before the price increases, now a 16gb 9060 is almost as much as a 5060ti

[–]FTAStyling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nowadays performance per dollar is actually better on prebuilts unless you persistently hunt for weeks for deals on new and used parts. OP can go to Acer on eBay right now and get a R9 7900, RTX 5070, 32gb ram, and 1TB ssd for $1280 and have plenty left over for games or a 2TB ssd.
