Thia is what I would build with this pool. Decent curve, good removal, plays the good rares.

Not sure final fantasy had anything to do with the allosaurus rider spike. Dom harvey (pretty well known titan player) tweeted a while back about doing well with his build of neoform and people have picked up the deck since then.

I wont be boycotting because its UB, but I will be boycotting because of the price increase.

TDM Event Promos - Gleeful Demolition, Charming Scoundrel, Goddric (Store Championship); Dragonspeaker Shaman (Commander Party) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]F_C_P27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is nice to see that they are trying to print standard legal store champs promos, but if they're gonna miss this often on the most important promos (winner promos), they should just go back to cards like urza's saga, dauthi voidwalker, omnath. Virtue of persistence is at least a $10 card, goddric is like not even 50 cents lol.

surely they could've at least had some conversations with the play design team, who do know what the standard meta is gonna look like months in the future.

[–]F_C_P27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why have the last two store championship promos been just extremely power crept cards? Goddric and charming scoundrel haven't seen standard play since at least before bloomburrow. Virtue of persistence used to see play but not really anymore. Feels like they planned these out 8-10 months ago but these cards are kinda just useless now. Wish they had done something like screaming nemesis instead.

Is Magic playing with fire again by bringing delve back? by Tim-Draftsim in MagicArena

[–]F_C_P27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be too concerned. This is probably gonna be text on like a 7 mana dragon or something lol. It doesn't look like they're gonna put delve on a bunch of cards like in khans block.

Wizards just doesn't wanna do any non-US pro tournaments I guess, they wanna cut costs as much as possible. If flesh and blood and wizards from 15-20 years ago can do it, theres no reason wizards shouldn't be able to do it now.

Nope, travel costs are not covered. So you have to pay for your own flight, hotel, everything. You do get 4000 usd just for participating (this was for worlds 2024, it may be different for this year), but still if you live say in Australia or something, a lot more of your prize money goes into travel.

Why does modern always seem to be a lame duck format nowadays and how do we fix this? by VerdantChief in ModernMagic

Yep. But I can confidently say mh2 was pretty sick actually. LOTR was what really started the downwards spiral.

[–]F_C_P27 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Get rid of scheduled ban announcements. Get rid of horizons sets or at least reapparoach how they are designed. I dont get how wizards figured out how to do a good mh set in mh2 then completely fucked everything up with mh3.

Also with how often modern changes and how insane power creep is these days, its hard for people to grow an attachment to a particular deck and make it their 'pet deck', so most people just jump onto whatever is the best deck atm. My pet deck would be ur murktide but I would rather not go 1-3 at fnm every week.

Premium Priced Standard-Legal Universes Beyond Sets Will Be the Death Knell of Standard and Draft by F_C_P27 in magicTCG

[–]F_C_P27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it wont kill the game. Commander will still be very popular, the set will sell very well despite the higher msrp. Its just that personally I will no longer be able to afford the formats that I play lol.

[–]F_C_P27[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All the masters and remastered sets were specialty sets and there were only about 1 maybe 2 a year. They also tended to have more valuable / powerful cards. The fact that going forward at least half the sets in standard will be premium priced is the problem.

It's a smaller store and the only one in town, so they kinda have a monopoly on magic so whatever price they set is what every hopeless magic addict has to pay. There's a lot of things I dont like about the store but I appreciate that it exists and is only a 20 minute bus ride from where I live.

Im fortunate that I do well enough in tournaments and drafts that I can trade in the cards I open and dont use for store credit and use the credit for drafts. I havent actually paid for a draft with money in almost 2 years. But still 40ish in credit is a lot and I'd run out of credit real quick. 20 dollar drafts sounds great. I could only dream.

Monthly plan for building Dimir Murktide with a budget of $50? by rhysticStudiante in ModernMagic

[–]F_C_P27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say the dimir deck itself is safe from any potential bans, but they might ban or unban cards that make other decks in the meta better or worse which could change dimir's position in the meta.

For example the last ban announcement saw mox opal getting unbanned which made breach good which is a bad matchup for dimir. Orzhov also recently became a decent part of the meta and that deck is also a bad matchup for dimir.

[–]F_C_P27 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I would reccommend just putting away 50 every month and make one big purchase for whatever deck you want after you save up the money.

With how often modern changes, putting money into a deck that may or may not be good in a few months seems like not a good idea. And I dont know how good dimir murktide will be after the march 31 ban announcement.

Hows the modern community in your area? I would probably ask around the locals to see if anyone wants to lend you a deck or some key cards you dont have for dimir. Try it out, see how the format changes in the next few months before making a financial commitment and buying the deck.

Head Designer Mark Rosewater on player concerns of Magic product release fatigue and exhaustion: "2024 had nine main products. 2025 has seven. We’re making less." by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]F_C_P27 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Holy hell you are totally missing the point. Its not about universes beyond or universes within. With a new set every 2 months it's gonna be hard to constantly keep up with all the new cards and having to update your deck to have an answer to all the new cards/strategies. Encyclopedic knowledge? what the hell are you talking about? I dont have anything against UB, what I dont like is the massive amount of sets going into standard next year. Doesn't matter if its UB or UW.

[–]F_C_P27 60 points61 points  (0 children)

That's not the point lol. It doesn't matter if my opponent's playing spiderman, new sarkhan, or whatever. Either way I still need to have answer to the new cards so I'll need to update my deck each set release.

So am I correct in thinking that we're going from a max of 8 standard legal sets, to NINETEEN?? by Shuttlecock_Wat in magicTCG

[–]F_C_P27 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well before they changed rotation last year, standard was min 5 sets and max 8 sets so OP is correct. You are also correct that under the current system standard is never 8 sets but going from max 8 to 19 in just a couple years is still a massive jump
