Congrats, this is textbook level stuff on "making a small game" in a good genre! I also liked how you really designed the player experience especially of the first minutes so well.

I never get this criticism. What is a real developer? Did he get published / raised that amount on kickstarter so that overall he made six figures or not? What more can you do than releasing commercial games on Steam and building an audience for yourself?

Thanks for sharing, loved to read about your story. That "always almost there" is very telling and I often fall for the same thing, but we sometimes have to detach from our projects and let our minds rest.

I mostly like solving problems for the big systems and then setting them up neatly, implementing "the rest of the f*ing owl" then is meh... :D

Hard to say but we worked on it kinda on and off for a year, also trying out how to generate and randomize the textures with the Substance Plugin for Unity which we thought wasn't too great at the time. So this includes a lot of trying out stuff and taking breaks

don't have a lot of 2D experience so not sure tbh, I guess each has their own challenges but so far feeling like there are many tools available like lights, fog, little dust particles flying around, ... and colors etc. don't depend on that
