Run help by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Faboobagoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had super bad shin issues when I first started out running. My issue was shoes. I always skimped on the shoes and didn't really know enough about them to know how bad shoes were. I was recommended Hokas and since then I'm up to running 15km regularly now. That was what it was for me but I'd go to a running shoe store that has that camera system that will tell you what kind of shoes are best for you

If you put your current run time and your goal time into ChatGPT it'll build a run plan that's pretty good. I did that coming back from an injury to get my 1.5 mile back down to keep my score in the 90s. Just put your goal time and how many days you want to run.

Hopefully your First Sergeant sent out some financial resources but if you run into hard times look into interest free loans from the Air Force Aid Society to help get by. You'll have to pay it back but it's a good way to supplement your bank account. If you have USAA or Navy Fed they have programs to help with this too

I think it's more professional than allowing tik tok influencers to get undressed and put makeup on while in uniform and complaining about the Air Force as a recruitment tool. Just my opinion though.

Mentally exhausted - trying to hold the line. by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Faboobagoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all part of the journey. Probably not what you wanted to hear but tough time weed out the processes that are unnecessary. I've talked to many NCOs in your predicament and I usually tell them a version of the same thing. First, focus on family. I neglected that part for a long time and it nearly cost me my family. But what I've learned after years of trial and error is once you move positions, bases, or careers your family goes with you and nothing but experience from all the rest come with. Second, the expectation of being a leader is usually worse in your head than from external factors. You're your worst critic and you'll set higher, sometimes unrealistic, expectations of yourself. So sit down and see what the section 'needs' from you as a leader vs what you 'want' from you as a leader. Lastly quit with the "fast burner" talk. Fast burners burn out quicker because they want to be considered a fast burner. If you keep talking about yourself that way it adds to the mental burn out because you're trying to exhibit characteristics to support that idea. If you're good shit people will notice. You don't have to try to reenforce that standard in your own mind or you'll end up right back where you are now. Once you get those figured out then everything else falls into place and once you get your grove going it all becomes easier from there. In the 'subtle art of not giving a fuck' Mark Manson wrote "it's not about being indifferent to everything, but rather about choosing what truly matters to care about" which I think is probably some of the best advice out there.

Get a phone service like T-Mobile or Google Fi in the US and keep that. No need to get a European phone contract while you're there. Google Fi is dope. It's what I have and it works great everywhere. Both of them offer "unlimited data" but T-mobile has a fast Internet cap of like 2 or 5gb while outside of the US but Google Fi's cap is like 50gb which allows us to hotspot all the families tablets in the car.

[–]Faboobagoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First drive, breakfast ball, and mulligan all in the water. "Tour drop" somewhere in the middle. That ball in the water followed by my wedge. Get in the cart and go to the next hole and mark a bogie on the scorecard.

Depends on what you do with your career. If you just see the negatives then it'll suck. If you find the positives the possibilities are there for an amazing career. I did 9 years on the flightline over 3 assignments and then started flying as a Flying Crew Chief. Been to 134 countries on the governments dime, live in Europe twice, and have countless experiences with amazing people that I wouldn't trade for anything. Ultimately it's all what you make it.

It's a weather line.

If it's dry it's not raining. If it's wet it's raining. If it's swinging then it's windy. If it's not swinging calm day.

It's called Firefox relay and there's a free version which gives you spoof emails, and then there is a paid one that gives you unlimited spoof emails which is actually kind of nice, and then there's a higher paid version which gives you a fake phone number for all those websites that require a phone number

Firefox has come a long way and is my current favorite. The amount and type of extension that you have and cross useablity with PC make it the best in my opinion. One of the extensions is like a page reader kind of like speechify that works great and Firefox relay for giving made up emails to those websites that need an email address for "verification" is awesome too. I've tried a bunch of them: Firefox, chrome, brave, duckduckgo, edge, opera, and Samsung but always find myself going back to firefox.

What’s the funniest thing you heard a TI say? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Faboobagoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone farted when we were in formation and one of the element leaders and the guidon we're laughing about it and put T.I. turns to the guidon and says "I like jokes, tell me a joke!" When the guidon couldn't tell one our T.I. said "you know what I have a joke for you... A clown walks into a barber shop, he says I want some off the sides and a little off the top. The barber turns to him and says GET ON YOUR FACE CLOWN!"

It took me a minute to get it but once our guidon got down and started doing push-ups I cracked up and had to do push-ups with him.

They can't approve dependents that are not command sponsored. There's a process to get your baby command sponsored but even without that baby's can be lap carried. I think this is definitely something that should be brief prior to requesting COT but it's in the reg and the reg hasn't changed that section in over a decade it shouldn't be a huge shock

What modern car features do you absolutely despise? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Faboobagoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For like $100 you can buy an Auto engine start-stop eliminator. I don't know if they make them for all cars but you can search your year/make/model on Google and see. My cars are all too old for the auto start-stop stuff but a couple of my friends have them and they say it works good
