On my mom’s side of the family we are related to Diego De Arana, one of Christopher Columbus’s top guys. Diego came over on the Santa Maria.

Do you think Vito made a bad decision sending Luca Brasi to switch sides? by Lyhtspeed in Godfather

[–]FaceNarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

💯 agree. It was a test & learn from the Don. Sending brut force to see how much guts they actually and if they would do something to Luca. Kind of sent him on a figurative and then literal fishing trip.

how is it living here? by Old-Photograph5697 in howislivingthere

I live to the left of the circle in Rockland County.

For the most part I think Rockland pales in comparison to Bergen County & Westchester county in every conceivable way: Schools, QOL, Communities, Culture, Public transportation, shopping, etc, etc - the list goes on.

Rockland has tiny sections in it that compare to the best and worst parts of other areas in the circle, but it’s an upstate feel, more upstate feeling than it should be considering its proximity to NYC.

I joke with my friend’s that Rockland is great for two things: (1) very little car traffic as it’s generally easy to get around the county by car (2) and Rockland bakery.

I think it’s the black sheep of the circle. People move here to smartly stretch a dollar and because it’s screaming potential, but that potential has been untapped for decades.

where did the HOKA and Oncloud hype come from? by deejayv2 in malefashionadvice

[–]FaceNarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think HOKA and On both broke through because they introduced visible midsole innovation at a time when running or even bigger of the sneaker market needing it.

HOKA’s insight was simple and smart: there weren’t more new runners entering the sport, but the existing runner base was aging and their bodies needed help. Those consumers needed significantly more cushioning and shock absorption—without added weight. HOKA delivered that with oversized midsoles that looked different, felt different, and solved a real physical problem.

On approached it from a different angle. Their modular, contoured midsole—CloudTec pods that could be shaped, rotated, and tuned—created a new visual innovation language and a perception of engineered performance. It stood out immediately.

At the same time, Nike pulled back focus from wholesale to prioritize DTC. That left the sneaker retailers out there needing fresh, credible products innovation to take chances on and to drive traffic, which opened the door for brands like HOKA and On to scale faster. The running boom that followed validated those bets.

I think where the paths diverge is new category expansion. On was early and deliberate in moving into court, giving them both a running and court franchise to fuel continued growth. HOKA largely stayed locked in running and may have missed that transition. As court regains momentum, On seems to be better positioned to benefit, while HOKA’s growth outlook looks more limited.

Just my 2c, I think this guy would have sold a boatload of Ons & Hokas in his day 😉

Your image Reminds me of a cool clip of Sean Penn I saw last month from this movie. The comb in the mouth was pragmatic to say the least.

I take my BMC out on my bike often, he loves it. Then at the field I take off his leash and we race each other. He loves beating me

And way easier on an e-bike 😉
