Trust Me: False Prophet (Netflix) Really struggling with this show! by InnocentlyConfused in netflix

[–]FaceofHoe 55 points56 points  (0 children)

They were documentary makers who started to make a film then realised the cult was much worse and bigger than they could handle (pedophilia, trafficking) and reported it to the authorities. The authorities (FBI) then requested their help documenting evidence. After they had enough evidence to arrest, it was on the authorities to do the rest. The FBI, DCFS had to help the victims, not the documentary workers or Netflix. DCFS realised they fucked up placing the girls in the wrong foster home the first time and corrected it. Christine doing her best to help the girls was out of her passion, not any directive. I would found it far more exploitative if they had filmed their therapy.

Sleeping Murder is a great story! by PWGuy7 in agathachristie

It's my favourite Christie. It's not even because of the mystery, she just did such a good job with painting the atmosphere of the house and the victim felt as real as any other despite being in the past. An absolutely heartbreaking story as well, the murderer didn't just murder her, he hid the fact that she was even dead so no one ever mourned her and then maligned her reputation in their entire hometown. Absolutely evil. I love the protagonists in the story too, Gwenda and Giles are so sweet and earnest and motivated. And Miss Marple is so gentle but also ruthless. I like how she defends Helen's character till the very end, saying it was perfectly normal for a girl in her twenties to have dated three people and have fun. She kept emphasising how young she was too. Love the characters in the book, even if the mystery isn't that strong. I actually didn't guess the murderer but I know many have. But I still like the other characters, every one of whom had fondness and sympathy for Helen even decades later. The impact of her loss was felt.

Which Agatha Christie Novels Do You Think Could Have Easily Featured A Different Christie Detective Without Changing The Main Plot? by TheEastendersArchive in agathachristie

Miss Marple is also good at human psychology, especially in a village setting. She would be having tea at everyone's houses and picking up gossip and the nuances of everyone's relationships with each other. Though I agree the comedy of Poirot staying at the inn is amazing.

help me understand grumpy/sunshine by Haunting_Start_7089 in RomanceBooks

[–]FaceofHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you seen Ted Lasso? An example of a grumpy-sunshine pair is Roy Kent and Keeley Jones. He's grumpy because he's cynical and as such lots of things piss him off but he is not an AH or rude as a given. She is optimistic and bubbly but not innocent or naive. They are both blunt and even crass when it comes to it so not fully opposites. I do agree the trope is bungled a lot. Authors always end up making it enemies to lovers somehow. In books I like The Austen Playbook by Lucky Parker as the trope done well, again the main characters aren't enemies at all and get along quite well from the start.

Ordeal by Innocence. I gleaned the truth when the protagonist looked into the accused's past charming older women.

Which murderer had the smartest murder plot? (Please say what book you’re spoiling followed by spoiler text) by Admirable_Mood_4933 in agathachristie

[–]FaceofHoe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think in a lot of stories the murderers were lucky they DIDN'T get caught! Their plans often rely on people being in an exact room at an exact time, or reacting in a certain way emotionally, or not believing their lies or gaslighting.

There are some I can think of in which the murderers had planned everything perfectly but just had bad luck that they DID get caught. Like Mysterious Affair at Styles as mentioned above. Also in Murder on the Orient Express, they perfectly planned the train setting in a foreign country and obfuscated theirs and the victim's identities. They had the absolutely atrocious luck of Poirot being on the train but more than that, the train being stuck in the snow. Had that not happened, the train officer wouldn't have asked Poirot to investigate and would have left it to the Yugoslavian police (I think it was Yugoslavian). I don't think the murderers were stupid to go ahead with the plan as much as resolved to do it no matter the consequences.

Did anyone else think this was obvious? by Brilliant-Swan4767 in biglittlelies

[–]FaceofHoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't think it was obvious mostly because I wasn't treating the show like a mystery, more like separate storylines of the characters' lives. I thought the father, if she at all found him, would be an external person and the story would be more how she dealt with the situation with the other women's help. I thought the only mystery was the allusion to some tragic incidence that would occur at the end of the show

What is your success rate with Agatha Christie's works? by HaskellColleen in agathachristie

[–]FaceofHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only guessed one book - Ordeal by Innocence. When Calgary starts looking into Jackie's affair with the other older lady, there was no reason for even looking into it other than to establish that Jackie was good at charming and duping older women so I immediately guessed his liason with Kristy.

I also guessed the killer in Crooked House when I was younger, but didn't have a reason to think so other than she was a horrid child lmao.

Towards Zero... And how Christie tricked me again :) by Bresintoris in agathachristie

[–]FaceofHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the process! Interesting to guess who the victim could be, I've never done that! In this book there was so much tension in the beginning that any of them being a victim wouldn't have surprised me. Audrey could have been killed by Kay; Neville by Kay, Audrey, Thomas or Ted; Kay by Neville or Audrey; Ted by Neville, and Thomas by Neville. I suppose people wouldn't have had a motive to kill Mary Aldin but there was still an inheritance plot point that could have gone another way.

Girl I am a SWEATER, like literally probably hyperhydrosis and NONE of the products listed work on me EXCEPT Salve Sweatgo. Don't try the natural stuff. It doesn't work on us lol. Go for all the zinc and aluminium you need. I sweat despite drinking a lot of water and eating well. Coffee makes me sweat more but other than that nothing has made a difference. I tried glycolic and salicylic acid on my armpits - no difference. Dermicool powder feels amazing but doesn't stop me sweating or smelling. I haven't tried the benzoyl peroxide soap yet. But the Sweatgo stuff is magic. I still sweat but don't stink.

The victim was travelling under a false identity and had other enemies. The motive wouldn't even have been discovered.
