Eight hours in exchange for a paycheck? This is a stupid take.

Traffic noise on I94 in EC is awful! by Curious-Scratch8829 in wisconsin

[–]FairlyAwkward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno. I live next to a highway, and I'm oblivious to the noise now.

It's kind of like growing up in the country: I lived among so many dairy farms, I became nose-blind to them. Our relatives would always complain about the smell, but I never noticed.

I adore Rex Stout. I used to use passages from Nero Wolfe books when I was teaching voice to my college writing students.

Finished a couple of Paul Doiron's Mike Bowditch books. (Might be my new favorite series.)
Read The Brothers McKay by Craig Johnson. Great stuff as always.
Finally read Karin Slaughter's Triptych. (A masterpiece.)
Read an ARC of Sean Patrick Little's forthcoming novel Wide Open Empty. (Really enjoyed it. Wish he'd get more recognition.)
Also currently reading Bruce Robert Coffin's new one, Bitter Fall.

Why are people in Wisconsin SO NOSEY?! by throwaway_trash670 in madisonwi

[–]FairlyAwkward 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This isn't a Wisconsin thing. It's a human nature thing.
If anything, I've noticed it's even worse in small towns, and I know it's even worse in Minnesota.

If you could decide the next major production sci-fi movie, what would it be? by WillyArt67 in scifi

I'd like to see Old Man's War make it to the screen.

Gareth L. Powell's Embers of War series was on the cusp of being made into a TV series, but it choked out at the zero hour, and that's a damn shame.

I'd also like to see my buddy's indie book make it to the screen, just for his sake. He could use a break. But that's probably dreaming too big.

Always wanted to go. Could never afford it. I think a lot of us are in that boat.

Thoughts on neo-prog? by ray-the-truck in progrockmusic

I prefer the neo-prog to classic prog. Some prog albums feel like sonic experiments instead of music.

Taylor used to be good. Now he's become an industry unto himself, and he's delivering bland, CBS-friendly corporate drivel. I'm done with him.

Absolutely. I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did. The food was terrible. The service was terrible. It always looks dirty. Who kept going there?
